Democrats are accomplishing what Romney’s Opponents should have

How come Democrats are the only Ones seemingly Capable of Matching Romney’s Negative Ads with ones of their own.

Over at Politico, Alexander Burns lays the problem out in the most simplistic manner.

Burns plainly asks – “Remember that shocking moment on the debate stage, when Santorum confronted Romney with his 2009 USA Today op-ed highlighting the individual mandate as a possible element of national health care reform?”

“Or when Gingrich called out Romney for inaccurately claiming that his investments in Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were made through a blind trust?”

“No, you don’t. And neither does anyone else because — thanks to the total failure of Romney’s opponents to do basic research and preparation — they never happened.”

Burns also asked, “When Gingrich was asked at a New Hampshire event in December about the role Planned Parenthood played in Romney’s Massachusetts health care law, it appeared to be the first the former House speaker had heard of it.”

This is indeed sad, because these are the very things that cause conservative activist to recoil from Romney in the first place. What does one think the voters would have done with this knowledge? There is a good chance that many of them do not know this stuff, not when the only right leaning Television news source [Fox News] has gone out of its way to white wash all of it. Knowing that the voters would not come to like Romney if they knew he once told a Pro-Choice group that he would serve as an the agent provocateur of pro-choice causes in the Republican Party.

In the video up top, you can clearly see that Romney has spent a lot of time deceiving the Republican voters; we can all say with confidence that he supported the mandate [those who deny it just look foolish doing so].

Romney may not have ever uttered “I support a federal mandate to purchase health insurance.” Look at his record; it is difficult to infer that he did not support copying the Massachusetts plan at the federal level, which would mean the mandate is in whatever bill that would have passed if he would have been in charge. This is exactly what Democrats did with ObamaCare.

Let us match Burns earlier critique of Romney’s opponents with my own captious remark.

Remember when Obama said this: “Our experience also demonstrates that getting every citizen insured doesn’t have to break the bank. First, we established incentives for those who were uninsured to buy insurance. Using tax penalties, as we did, or tax credits, as others have proposed, encourages “free riders” to take responsibility for themselves rather than pass their medical costs on to others. This doesn’t cost the government a single dollar.”

You probably do not remember this quote, because it too never happened. This was written by Romney is an op-ed in the middle of the health care debate. Except for the first part, Romney actually said that Massachusetts could serve as the model for the rest of the country.

It is all about the tax [liberal version] or the penalty [reality], and Romney clearly favored/favors the tax insensitive. I often hear his supporters saying that even though Romney did support the mandate, so did many other Republicans.

While Ben Collinscontends that Romney never supported the mandate, he then points readers to a quote where Ronald Reagan supposedly did. Like somehow, if a person such as Reagan made the mistake of supporting the mandate, that it now excuses Romney of lying about supporting it now.

The liberals and Romney supporters always seem to say some Republicans have supported the mandate in the past.To which I always say, “So what, that is indicative of the problem within the Republican Party, not the excuse that should be used to defend past transgressions.”

Call it a flip-flop, call it a mistake, it does not matter because Romney is not admitting it. He says it was the right thing for his state, but he would have never pushed it nationally. As if most people do not encourage other states to take actions that have worked before. First thing wrong with that is that it has not worked; it has been a drag on the state of Massachusetts, causing prices to rise, while not giving little benefit[it would be better to let Levin handle this].

The simple question is how conservatives are going to defend Romney against ads like the one I have posted up top. It is not as simple as just repeating team Romney’s talking points. I do not know about you, but I am not looking forward to saying, “yes Romney is a panderer, and a flip flopper; yes he has been on two sides of every major issue, but he still is better than Obama.”

That sounds like a horrible argument, and one conservatives should not have to make.

I was looking forward to arguing from a place of strength this election cycle, but that is not going to happen if Romney is the best we have. The desiderata of excitement, this is what we are looking forward to. How did we get here, and is there anyway we can stop this before it is to late. Maybe since Romney is running out of money, he will not have the ability to buy the rest of the delegates.

Nice Post Center.... I have been saying this very thing for a long long time...

Romney is indefensible. As acat the wise noted “we can no longer win we have to hope Obama loses”. Healthcare, Cap and Trade, a failed economic record and a list of flip flops and outright lies a mile long is going to make it impossible for Romney to credibly attack Obama as a “failed leader” or suitably distinguish himself. He will not have the money advantage or a fawning press corp as he does now. On the contrary he will be facing the most well financed campaign machine in history coupled with a national media that has a vested interest in his defeat. Honestly I don’t understand how any intelligent person believes Romney is the best choice as our flag bearer. While I am not blind to the many failings of either Santorum or Gingrich I would much rather take my chances with either. At least I could mount a decent defense and advocate for them in earnest.

I cannot help but to think you are right

and I think it is sad that those who are running against Romney were unable to find this stuff, and use it before Democrats were able to. The nomination process is supposed to weed out the people who have this kind of baggage; instead it has advanced the very person I believe the Democrats want to run against.

I think they did know about Romney's stuff, but they actually believe in the 11th commandment

Everyone else in this race wasn’t out to destroy fellow Republicans.

Gingrich was trying to hint at the stuff, but got attacked by everyone for going after capitalism.

I think Romney is unelectable and he will cost us the House and the Senate.

The Romney dog story

Scope (Diary) Friday, March 16th at 11:21AM EDT (link)

has been back in the news also. CNN had a segment yesterday covering the story of the group Dog’s Against Romney. They said it was a Democrat group. Some where I saw a comment with the thought of a president Romney strapping his dog to the roof of Air Force One.

Yelp! With oxygen, I hope.

annie54 Friday, March 16th at 11:38AM EDT (link)

The reason this story keeps surfacing is that it shows how heartless and disconnected he AND Ann are.

Most of us who have pets, have included them as members of our families and households. The imagine of our beloved dog on top of our vehicle in the cold temperatures and messing all over himself is horrifying to most of us.

You gotta have heart.

appealing to one’s emotions. Remember it’s all for the children? even when they take away a little girl’s turkey sandwich and replace it with chicken nuggets and FF. Yup, it’s all for the children, BS, it’s all about control.

However, being a severe animal lover, Romney deserves every bit of the emotional appeal on the dog story that can be heaped on him by any one willing to do it. What a cold hearted SOB.

Heh. Wish I could grab a pic of that, Scope.

acat (Diary) Friday, March 16th at 12:01PM EDT (link)

For those who say “It’s just a dog, it doesn’t matter” .. I will point out that voters elected Mark Kirk (R-Sen, IL) but rejected Bill Brady (R-cand-Gov, IL) in part because of this ad:

Voters choose who to support and who to reject for a wide variety of reasons. One of my relatives once bragged about “picking all the ones with Irish-sounding last names.”

With that in mind, we need to look at more than just what matters to various hyphenate-Conservatives, we need to look at how the squishy middle, who will decide the winner, see our candidate.

Romney clearly fails this test, the “dog story” just makes it easier.

Both Romney and Santorum are simply unacceptable

unsk Friday, March 16th at 12:14PM EDT (link)

Both Romney and Santorum are simply unacceptable.

Romney has said he will not cut spending. Romney has said he wants to raise your taxes in a big way with a VAT. Please tell me how this guy is not a walking, talking definition of “Tax and Spend”. Paul Ryan yesterday released a great video describing all those Rino’s and Dems who refuse to address the monumental, lethal debt crisis we now face. Romney epitomizes those who want to wish away that debt crisis with do nothing, Big Nanny Police State Policies. Why would I vote for that?

Willard is for Big Governmnet and for Big Corporatism. We are a in a time where the government has manipulated the business world to a point where only those corporate entities that are big and corrupt enough to “pay to play” are favored and those that are not are subjected to onerous, ruinous taxation and regulation. Romney favors those policies. Why would I vote for that?

And finally, where are nominating a guy who won’t “lite his hair on fire” to defend your liberties. This Progressive is in the tank for all the intrusive Nanny Police State grabbing of your liberites. Why would I vote for that?

As for Santorum. How can anyone seriously endorse this guy? Yesterday he came out for regulating the internet to ban porn sites. You have got to be kidding?

This guy is a loon. A Big government, Big Union, Big Nanny State, Big Police State loon who wants to intrude into people’s bedrooms and homes and regulate their behavior. He just does not pass Constitutional muster. He is an appalling joke. His economic proposals are Big Statist weak, and like Willard’s will not put this economy back on it’s feet.

Why would I vote for that?

Hopefully, this porn internet proposal by Sanctimonius Santorum will effectively end his run for the nomination and boil this race down to Romney and the one legitimate remaining Ant-Romney – Newt.

In a two man race between Romney and Newt, Romney will lose – thankfully.

Romney will never lose a head to head against Gingrich, he has far to much

baggage for Romney and the media to attack. I’ve not heard the porn comment, but if that is the case, Santorum is crazy for saying that.

Lots of fun and, who knows, you may win.

But if Romney is, realistically, the only game in town, does it make sense to bash him? Even if it’s fun?

I like fun as much as the next person. This weekend, it’s the NCAA tournament. Makes more sense than any of the three candidates.

that Romney supporters like myself are not asking the Romney Haters to join our parade. We know you have wounds to lick. We get it. But, there is a time to realize that Romney WILL be the nominee. He is at about 520 delegates as of tonight. After Tuesday he will have 600. Look at the remaining states, friend. Unless something absolutely catastrophic happens to Romney in the next 4 or 5 weeks —- it’s Mitt.
