Attention Iowa voters: Rick Perry’s Momma says he doesn’t lie.

Moe Lane’s diary, “10 things to remember about the Iowa caucus” (specifically point number one: “Politicians lie”)  inspired me to write today about one of my favorite reasons for supporting Rick Perry.

Once when her pastor was preaching about the lying ways of politicians, Rick Perry’s mom spoke right up in church and said  ”my son is the governor of the great state of Texas, and he is not a liar.” The pastor kept right on with his sermon, so Mrs. Perry had to raise her voice and repeat the statement a second time.  It reminds me of the story of Washington and the cherry tree except that it really happened.

This is not proof that Rick Perry never lies, but it is proof he was trained not to, and that Mrs. Perry believed the lesson took with her son. The Bible supports her in this opinion. “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old he will not depart from it.”  Proverbs 22:6

I have been watching Perry closely for his entire campaign. I have seen evidence that his mamma’s confidence in him is well founded. A truly honest man will tell the truth even to his own hurt, and Perry has done that on more than one occasion.

Perry’s best chance of winning is for people to realize that  he  is honest when he says he is on our side. He honestly is running for president only because he sees that the country he loves is in trouble and he wants to help. He has great plans that are all for our good. His record as governor of Texas proves that if we give him the chance, he can and will accomplish what he plans to do.

Note to Iowa: Honesty in a politician is as rare as hens teeth.  Perry is the man we can trust and we better snap him up pronto.

An uplifting report from a member of Perry’s Iowa Strike Force. Update for Monday.

A Rick Perry Iowa Strike Force member reports on New Year’s Day:

“The new year is in, campaign break for church…Campaign resumes at 2pm with a one hour prayer time w/Perry campaign staff before training classes for Strike Force at 3 pm.Praying for guidance, effectiveness and energy. A little secret: the polls are wrong.”-Eddie Willing

Update: Here is Eddie’s report from Monday.

“Perry team members were out knocking doors. The scene at Perry HQ was enthusiastic and determined. There is a comprehensive, coordinated plan for every aspect of the campaign. Perry’s staff is in one accord and excited about their prospects in Iowa and beyond, and they wear their excitement on their sleeve.

Door to door contact is what I do for a living, so this was nothing unfamilar, but still a unique experience. I absolutely LOVED the opportunity to meet people face to face, and let me tell you, the registered Caucus-goers we visited were happy as well. Three people actually thanked us for stopping by, instead of calling. Phone banks are a staple of every campaign for the last 80 years, a necessary evil if you will, but our method was something no other candidates have attempted this year; Perry alone has the large masses of volunteers hitting doors all over the state. Hundreds of them.”

I believe that this campaign is doing everything possible to optimize their chance of doing better than the polls predict.    I watched a video of Perry’s rally yesterday. He was inspiring. Perry will win by showing people that he is the candidate that really is on their side, that he is the one they really can trust.  I am praying today for  a strong Iowa finish for Governor Perry.

“Not by power, not by might, but by my spirit saith the Lord.” Zechariah 4:6b
