Individualism v.s. The Lame-Duck Congress
Individualism
noun
1 the habit or principle of being independent and self-reliant.
• self-centered feeling or conduct; egoism.
2 a social theory favoring freedom of action for individuals over collective or state control.
About Individualism, Ayn Rand wrote:
“There is nothing to take a man’s freedom away from him, save other men. To be free, a man must be free of his brothers.”
Our forefathers fought to finally, after centuries of tyranny, give the individual rights and a voice. This is what we Americans have enjoyed but have been losing bit by bit in the last 50-100 years via liberalism. And as Rand predicted, we have come now to a crossroads–a very dangerous crossroads–where Individualism is at a precipice of extinction and Collectivism is about to become the law of the land–moving us in the direction of European socialism all against the will of the electorate.
“Collectivism means the subjugation of the individual to a group — whether to a race, class or state does not matter. Collectivism holds that man must be chained to collective action and collective thought for the sake of what is called ‘the common good’.” — Ayn Rand
There is inherent danger in the “We” of Collectivism which is where our executive branch and the left would (and are) leading us. Their intention to impale Individualism on a sword of European socialism would make Vlad the Impaler proud. If we think the November elections are the wall they will hit that will stop all of this collective madness, we are sorely mistaken. In addition to Tarp, the Health Care plan, the financial reform bill, Sotomayer, Kagan and the lame-duck session from November to January has the potential to close the circle of socialism with card check, cap and trade, tax increases, the Dream Act and worse–amnesty or as Rush calls it, a voter drive for undocumented Democrats.
Writer Kenneth Blackwell last month in an interview with Glenn Beck, advises:
I think that in the grand scheme of things, we have about three more years before we are on almost irreducible and irreversible track of socialism and collectivism. I think that we have a Battle Royale in front of us to change the composition of congress, to put a brake on this mad dash, but I tell you, the most dangerous period in the short term is going to be the potential lame duck congress. {my emphasis} And that means that they are going to do, everything that they can, up against a wall to see what sticks out of desperation. You know, one of their key strategists, Stan Greenberg said, look, our job is to complete middle class entitlements and when you do that, you create a voter base that will consistently support you and your vision in the future. That’s what they are doing. They are just growing government at an alarming rate. What we lay out in The Blueprint is that a decade ago, yes, government spending was about 34% of GDP. In Europe it was about 48%. Today in the U.S. Government spending is about 4 — a little under 41% of GDP and in Europe it’s about 47. So they’ve come down a notch in Europe and we’ve accelerated in a mad dash towards European style socialism.
Three years from now begins today. We eagerly await the November elections. We are determined that things will change–for the better. We believe, in spite of the cheating from the left we can surely expect in the elections. that conservatives will overwhelm the liberals in congress and we can finally make some roads to turning things around. But even if we do win these seats, we can try to make all the changes in the world but for many if not most, we face Obama’s veto. True change cannot really happen until 2012. At that time, we may have a lot more to change than we’ve bargained for because even if we win big in this mid-term election, from November to January will be a very dangerous time for America:
From Eric Canter:
In the wake of the November election, the Democratic majorities of 2008 will be frozen in place until a new Congress is sworn in at the beginning of 2011. It appears likely that scores of defeated Democrats will head back to Washington to serve out their terms with nothing to lose. And with President Obama’s promises of tax increases, cap-and-trade, card check, and immigration reform left unfulfilled, what’s to stop Speaker Pelosi and Leader Reid from using the lame-duck session to pass the remaining parts of their agenda that their so-called moderates are currently too jittery to support?
So what can be done to counter this lame duck destruction?
Phil Kerpen from Not So Silent Blog has an idea:
There are now six unelected members of the U.S. Senate; they represent Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Illinois, New York, and West Virginia. The rules governing the seating of senators elected to replace appointed senators are left to the states in the 17th amendment. New York’s law specifies the date the new senator takes office as January 3, so Kirsten Gillibrand will still be a senator in a potential lame-duck session, regardless of the outcome of her election bid. The other five states, however, all have laws that indicate the election winners may be seated immediately following their election — in time for the lame-duck session.
Exhausted as we are from getting our conservative candidates elected, we cannot rest for even a moment, lest America’s true enemies within, force their radical agenda on us on their way out the door. The stakes are terribly high in this last session because the left’s spending fest is looming like a festering storm on freedom’s horizon.
