End subsidies to ethanol

We’ve Key Voted a “Yes” vote to Senator Coburn’s Amendment to kill Ethanol Subsidies.

Bad economic policy should be eliminated. Period. Exclamation point. End of story.

We have an opportunity to strike deep into the heart of Big Ethanol – Senator Coburn’s Amendment repeals not only the tax credit, but it also repeals the tariff on imported ethanol. It’s a great first step on the way to ridding the tax code of market-distorting energy subsidies and sends a message that Republicans are serious about tax reform.

Ethanol subsidies are an abomination. They are simply a form of corporate welfare. Their elimination would be pro-growth.

Senator Coburn’s Amendment is #436 to S. 782 and will most likely be voted on tomorrow. He needs 60 votes for cloture. Please join me in supporting his efforts.

Best,
Chris Chocola

I doubt this will pass though (and my guess would be it will face bipartisan opposition). Ethanol is killing people who have to buy food.

Either one of the two points of the bill, elimination of the tax credit or elimination of import tarrifs, would be a body blow to this industry.

Frankly, I’m not sure why the Greens arn’t pushing harder for cheap, imported surgar-based Ethanol anyway. If I had their stated goals, I would be against the corn-based stuff we make around here.

if they could just get the stuff out of the gasoline I buy, I’d really be happy.

as an aside, I love how often the word “abomination” is used in American political history. It’s such a wonderful word.

My car runs on no-ethanol gas for the improved mileage and there by less cost.

I live in the People’s republic of Maryland. Took a look at the list and every station is about an hour away on the more conservative Eastern Shore of the state.

You might find non ethanol gas any place there is a marina.
Ethanol and water like each other, which makes it a no-no for boats.
Farmer Co-op’s might also be a source.
Lawn and Garden Equipment dealers might also point you to a station with.
Also how close are you to VA.?
          Just suggestions.

It’s not possible to kill the mandate at the same time. They’re mostly state laws, right?

It does nothing for Conservatives to single out these subsidies and not address all other Corporate welfare as well and at the same time.

Admittedly, I don’t know what other programs are out there for other industries, but if we are going to single out the ethanol/corn industries we need to be consistent -and be that way quickly – lest the recipients get the idea they and they alone are swinging in the wind on this (regardless of how right it is) and turn their $ and energies to defeating Conservatives.

The mandate is Federal, though I wouldn’t be surprised if California had it’s own mandate too.

just how deep greed is embsdded in DC, it will also point out the RINO’s.

not only does it reduce fuel mileage, it is harmful to air quality and the fuel delivery system of vehicles. (take a glass jar, put some ethanol laced fuel in it and place a piece of neoprene rubber fuel line it. Put the lid on it and let it soak for a few days. Watch what happens!)
We are also diverting our food supply. Not only food that we humans eat but feed for livestock.
Whoever thought this scheme up…dumb, dumb, dumb.

FREE MONEY! Taxpayer money. Is it really free?

In Michigan, corn crop was planted late due to insane rain that seemed never-ending. Crop insurance mandated June 5th ,as latest date to finish. No way we will have as much as last year but all State ethanol makers still on track for 2011 Projected output Numbers. Anyone Think corn futures will go down? Add in Q E 1 & 2 (Spell INFLATION!) and any commodity broker could tell you the Outcome. If Subsidies were dropped anyone on this line KNOWS ethanol would become a Dead Man Walking. Why is it that invariably when I see an initiative promoted by a conservative senator, Tom Coburn is centered in the frame? Where are 10 more like him?
