Obama – Another Test of Leadership
As I had stated in an earlier post, Obama faced a test of his leadership when dealing with Iran and North Korea. Despite all of his bluster, both of those countries have continued down the same path toward nuclear capabilities despite Obama’s inexperienced and amateurish tactics.
One would always hope that the leader of your country would learn from past mistakes. The question becomes: Has he?
Let’s start with hot-topic national issues:
- Wisconsin – Obama has taken the side of the unions in this issue by making such statements as that he would walk that picket line with them. Obviously, he hasn’t.
- Arizona – After directing the DOJ to sue Arizona because of their passage of a stringent immigration law, Obama has been remarkably silent on the issue. What’s happened since then? 46 state legislatures and the District of Columbia enacted 208 laws and adopted 138 resolutions, for a total of 346. It seems that the people disagree with the Obama Administration when they say that the border is as secure as it has ever been.
- Healthcare – Universal healthcare was the cornerstone of the campaign. Obama signed it into law in a “true test of leadership.” (Let’s not mention that it was Pelosi and Reid who did all of the arm-twisting and deal-making to get it passed.) So, what’s happened? Numerous states have challenged the constitutionality of the law while the Obama Administration issues numerous waivers to unions and others.
The funny thing about leadership is that people tend to follow and support a true leader. Well, it seems that the American people have chosen to not follow Obama’s lead on anything. Going as far as to return control of the House to the Republicans and narrowing the gap in the Senate in 2010. Obama’s polling numbers continue to slide to the point that people want someone to challenge Obama in the Democratic primary.
Let’s continue onto the international scene:
- Libya – Qadaffi has crushed the resistance, which started February 15th, to maintain his dictatorial control of the country. Obama’s response to the brutal tactics was to take ten days to state the painfully obvious. Since then, Obama is still considering military options, a no-fly zone, while providing the usual bluster which Qadaffi has clearly ignored while he continues to kill his own people.
- Japan – After the earthquake struck Japan, nuclear reactors are in danger of a complete meltdown. Obama’s response – to wait to get more information, but to also state that nuclear power is a viable energy source. No humanitarian aid, no technical assistance…we need more information.
- Bahrain — Protests taking place there do not even warrant a response from Obama.
So, what is the president focusing on? What issue has he decided to demonstrate clear, unequivocal leadership on?
- Filling out his bracket for the men’s and women’s tournaments
- Instructing teachers to facebook-creep their students at all times
- And, of course, taking a vacation to Rio – Even the British media thinks this is ridiculous
Another chance for Obama to show that he has the chops to be president, another clear display of incompetence and failure.
