Rick Perry showed courage and leadership to endorse Gingrich

The easy think for Gov. Perry to do would have been to wait until SC was over and then to endorse Romney.  That would have made his political life easier, and made it easier if he decided to leave politics and join K street.  It would be following a typical GOP pattern of dropping out and supporting the front-runner.

Gov. Perry — who I’ve attacked some this campaign — far exceeded my expectations by throwing his full support behind Gingrich.  This was a brave action to stand up against the vulture capitalist flipp-flopper Mitt Romney.  Few in politics are willing to stand up for the man they believe is the better to lead the country, and to fight against the political establishment to do this.  Rick Perry is doing it now, and I greatly respect a man who stands up for his beliefs like he has just now.  In many ways, this is a return to the Rick Perry that started the race and who has governed Texas for the last decade.

For all Perry’s imperfections, I have come to see in this one act that, at-heart, Perry cares more about his country than his personal political goals.  There is no other reason why he would take this action that was against his self-interest, but for his country.  I greatly respect this, and owe an appology to Perry and his people.  I now see that — at his core — Perry is a conservative, and a deeply rooted conservative at that.

At this point the time has come for conservatives to now head Gov. Perry’s call and support Gingrich.  Gingrich is a deeply flawed candidate, but is better than Romney and better than Obama.  Based on Perry’s endorsement, I now feel Gingrich is the best hope for conservatives, and I ask Santorum to drop out and support Gingrich as well.

God Bless Gov. Perry for his courage, and I ask him and his supporters to forgive some of my more over-the-top attacks on Perry.  I never thought him the type who would put country over himself; which is something I believe he did in backing Gingrich over the establishment candidate of Romney.

If he believes the way to do so is by supporting Gingrich then I am with him 100%. You are right that Perry didn’t have to endorse anyone right now. Most of the others who dropped out have played it safe with a wait and see attitude. Perry is not that way. He boldly steps out and does what he sincerely believes is right. I have always believed that Gingrich’s platform most closely resembles that of Perry. Gingrich is a fighter like Perry is.

I cried through Perry’s speech, but I am excited for the future too!

Perry has more class in his little pinky than any of the other candidates who decided to run. It is why so many of us here at RS have been so aggravated with the clueless horde that have been jumping from candidate to candidate.

I appreciate your kind words chrysostom15, I really do. It just shows that so many come to realize too late who Perry really is. This is the Perry we’ve known since even before he decided to jump in the race. We now have to settle for someone who isn’t our first choice. I hate having to settle. So many settled in 2008 and it resulted in our loss.

I do hope that Newt is able to pull out a win, since much of the ideas he’s been espousing were ideas Perry has been using over a decade. Lets hope he keeps to those ideas, and not go off the reservation.

I do hope with the Perry speech today, that many will finally realize that they lost the best choice they could have had.

It’s real hard to resist the temptation in these cases to take your ball and go home.

Perry showed real level headed decisionmaking, class and conviction in endorsing Gingrich so soon.

Hat’s off to Perry and I hope he continues the states fight against the DC elite political class.

However, considering your early hit pieces on Perry and your rambling diary “gently” admonishing Christians for not gleefully jumping onto the Newt bandwagon, color me skeptical wondering if you would have shown the same graciousness (albeit with backhanded compliments) had Newt been the one to drop out and endorse Perry.

him and root for him. I sincerely hope that Newt can pull it off, as I am very sceptical of both Mitt and Newt of being able to beat Obama. We certainly cannot have 4 more years of him. Funny, I never once thought Rick Perry would endorse Mitt. I am afraid Rick Perry is too principled to do that which is another reason why I like him. Thank you Chrystom for the apology and diary that was nice of you.

His generous and full throated support contributed to a synergy (w/Sarah Palin’s supportive remarks, Newt’s debate performances, Romney’s faltering, etc.) that sent Newt’s momentum to a whole new level and make him unmistakably the Romney alternative around whom to coalesce.

After Perry endorsed 100 tea party leaders across the country followed suit.

Newt might’ve still won SC even if Governor Perry stayed in but I doubt it would’ve been such a blow out.

I never doubted that Governor Perry was running for President because he felt his country needed him and not out of personal ambition. That was just as clear when he generously and full throatedly endorsed Newt.

It was a generous, courageous action that honored them both.

and supporting Gingrich. In fact, the more I think about it, the more I am looking forward to hearing the bold and articulate Speaker Gingrich verbally dismantle ObamaCare, piece by diabolical piece.

No one will care a fig about Newt’s various transgressions (most of which he’s repented of) when he starts explaining with perfect clarity that anyone over 70 years old will soon receive nothing but “comfort care” for serious health problems that could have been easily fixed. No pacemakers, no advanced neurosurgical care, you won’t even be called a “patient,” you’ll be a “unit”. “The unit in room 203A needs to be removed to the morgue.”

The Obama euphemism for “death panels” is “ethics panels” (presumably because it would be “unethical” to “waste” money on people over 70). “Comfort care” is also a euphemism:

It means that a panel of experts has determined that your life isn’t worth saving beyond 70, so they will try to make you feel good while you die….

If Obama is re-elected and Democrats retain their majority in the Senate, those “ethics panels” will busily go about doing their job and senior citizens will die prematurely from maladies that are easily treatable, and for one reason: they are over 70. That’s it in a nutshell….

If you’re a senior citizen and you want to take advantage of the medical technologies that your tax dollars paid to help develop over the years, you should think long and hard before casting a vote for Obama in 2012. For that matter, you should carefully consider the wisdom of voting for Democrats period.

–Neil Snyder, a Democrat until 1985, at: http://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2012/01/what_were_learning_about_obamacare_isnt_good_–_especially_for_seniors.html

Mona Charon also had a good piece recently on the lawless ObamaCare IPAB (death panel), called, “It Isn’t Just the Mandate.” I hope Gingrich does his homework on ObamaCare and exposes it as the disaster it is, very seriously, and without hyperbole.

Thank you, Gov. Perry, for your leadership, humility, and true love of country.
