Breaking news Honduras: Congress overwhelmingly rejects return of Zelaya to presidency [Updated]

Update: Final tally – 111 for, 14 against, 3 did not vote (an 8:1 margin)

This link also has some excerpts from the debate and La Gringa’s tribute. LaGringa needs to be commended for regularly posting from inside Honduras on what has been going on there, which has been especially helpful since our media have either parroted the leftists or supressed stories.

The above link also list other We also need to give particular recognition to Sen. Jim DeMint, who firmly stood up for Honduras, broke the embargo on U.S. leaders visiting Honduras, and pressured our State Department to back off and let the election go forward.

—————————————-

Our media are slow to pick up on this, but La Gringa in Honduras has been closely following the debate and vote on her blog and reports that the motion to reject Zelaya’s reinstatement as President has received a majority. The voting is still going on at the time I am writing this, but right now the “For” vote is prevailing by a 7:1 margin. (“For” means against reinstatement.)

A most heroic action in continuing to stand up against outside pressure, including U.S. spokespersons, demanding or “expecting” Zelaya’s reinstatement. We see soon if the U.S. government decides to retaliate – but the Honduran people are showing their love for freedom and a rejection of tyranny – and we need to stand with them.

Thank you Honduras – your legislatures, and even more those of you who defied threats and intimidations to vote last Sunday!

I knew that the Honduran people would reject that scumbag, I just didn’t know that it would be so overwhelming.

and throw out the socialists & communists in 2010 that are infecting America’s democracy!

passes and the dems succeed in enslaving us, perhaps we can all move to Honduras and create a bastion of liberty.

Porfirio Lobo, the conservative candidate, wins the presidential election, the Honduran congress overwhelmingly rejects Zelaya’s return and the Honduran constitution survives a frontal assault from Chavez, Obama and Ortega.

shortly after Zelaya’s removal, Hillary was vocal about her support for reinstating Zaleya. She was also vocal about cutting off aid to Honduras if he was not reinstated. Thankfully the Hondurans and Micheletti held firm. When Clinton, Chavez and a few others were not successful with their threats to Honduras, I understand Clinton, with the threat of further deterioration in that part of the world, was forced to make concessions. As a part of the agreement, and in order for the US to recognize the elections as being legit, the Honduran Congress had to vote again on allowing Zelaya to retake the leadership until the elections were held, and the new leader took office. That was nothing more than an appeasement to Chavez and Zelaya. They held the vote off until, yesterday I believe, which as we know was after the election, but, before Lobo oficially takes office in just a few weeks. The vote for reinstatement was a farce, as, the same people are in Congress, and voting, that voted overwhelmingly to remoze Zelaya to begin with. I’ve read that the US immediately stated that they recognized the elections as valid. Venezuela, Brazil and one other Central American country said they do not consider the election valid. From what I’ve read, this was one of Clinton’s biggest face losing moves as Secretary of State. It must have angered Obama greately that he and his admin. were not able to help their best friend Chavez. I hope that the sanctions against Honduras, from the US are reinstated soon. Honduras is one of the poorest countries in Central America.

What a despicable shame that such a young democracy, their constitution went into force in 1982, had to take a stand against the United States in order to defend their sovereignty. Absolutely despicable, this under-appreciated bit of foreign policy tells more about Ofama than any other. Pay heed America, your liberty, your freedom is next if the progressives have their way!

this news is under-appreciated. With Clinton and Obama coming out swinging on the wrong side, and calling the ouster of Zelaya a coup, the bad guys thought they had American backing. That was months ago, and, before the Obama admin. totally lost all credibility around the world. The whole situation was spiraling out of control, and, Chavez was threatening to send his goons in to retake the country back for Zelaya. I believe Ortega was also in on that. I guess recognizing that the US would have been a part of, or at least in support of major violence, Clinton had to try to save face, hence the re-vote provision at the OAS. As civil said above, the Honduras news in the US died out, as Clinton didn’t want it known that she had done a complete about face, and, therefore lost all credibility for involving herself in something she should never have gotten involved in to begin with.

The scarriest part of Clinton is that I believe she may run against Obama in 2012 if his numbers are in the ditch. The Communists can’t lose their march to destruction of the US, especially now since they’ve gotten more than a toehold on us. That 40% of Democrats that say they won’t vote in 2012 will vote for Clinton. She is nothing more than Obama, just on a weakened dose of steriods.

She is as ham-handed as Secretary of State as he is as President. Neither one was “qualified” to be President (as the left is so insistent about stating about Sarah Palin, who wasn’t running for President in the first place), nor even Sec. of State.

      H. Clinton and B. Obama are both clueless about what to do next, at least in so far as any attempt to lead wisely and in the best interests of the USA. All they can do is talk, and they’ve just about said all they know how to say. We have elected fools to high office, and I guess that makes us fools as well.

      • Scope

as I said above, she will challenge Obama in 2012 if he is likely to lose. The Democrats love firsts, they gave us the first African American president, and, would love to give us the first female president. And the dumb that gave us Obama would be just as dumb and give us Clinton. They would never see that she is Obama in a dress.

Excellent information. I’d be more impressed by Davis’s comments if he weren’t employed by the Honduran Latin American Business Council.

Still, he is on the right side, here.

And it proves that even a far-lefty can be right sometimes (if the pay is right, perhaps), so Hillary should have been on the right side as well. What is her excuse?

I really don’t like Lanny Davis, as he is usually that Progressive out there promoting Progressive policies. Absolutely, there is some little hope for some sanity, with even those we mostly disagree with. He is right, correct, on target, and spot on with this assessment. Interesting though that he doesn’t mention Hillary’s big role in this debacle. The US did in fact honor the election, but, it was interesting that, I believe the Assistant Sec. of State, just had to voice his dissapointment. Clinton, as far as I know, has been mum on the issue.

The people and the leaders of Honduras (not named Zelaya) have done themselves proud all through this process. I don’t think it’s possible to have done better in the face of all sorts of pressure from very, very powerful and entrenched enemies — yes, thank you Obama has made the United States the enemy of Honduras — over the long haul of this ordeal.

By the way Obama can GFH. So can Hillary. The UN can GFT, as can the OAS, fag-boy Hugo Chavez, Danny Ortega and that little twerp from Brazil.

The whole crop of them can GFT. With broomsticks that have splinters.

Viva Honduras, a nation run by infinitely better men than our own for the time being.
