Obama Stabs Young Americans in the Back – And Nobody Seems to Care

President Obama’s recent announcement (or should I say, pronouncement) that the Justice Department is basically going to give a pass to illegal aliens who just happen to fit into a certain demographic has engendered all sorts of reactions. Oddly, the response has included little of the kind of outrage one would expect.

From the New York Times: http://fivethirtyeight.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/06/19/what-obamas-immigration-decision-might-mean-for-2012/

“Even in an era where partisanship is on the rise, demographic changes exert a gravitational pull on policy and politics and are occasionally enough to overcome political divisions. What is more remarkable than President Obama’s decision on Friday to suspend deportations of some illegal immigrants is Republicans’ relatively passive reaction to it.

The L.A. Times notes the positive reception by the Latino community – no big surprise since Hispanics are the very constituency that Obama is attempting to win over with the decree: http://www.latimes.com/news/politics/la-pn-obamas-immigration-move-wins-support-in-battleground-states-20120618,0,215080.story

“President Obama’s decision to extend administrative relief to an estimated 800,000 young illegal immigrants has won favor with Latino voters in key battleground states, according to a new poll.

Great for Obama, but his blatant endorsement of the needs of illegal aliens over those of American workers will send a clear signal to anyone sitting in some Mexican hovel that “the door is now open” – a fresh flood of young illegals is sure to follow. After all, how will the government know when any individual actually came here?

Given this outrageous action, where is the opposition from the 23 million unemployed, you know, the ones who are actually AMERICAN CITIZENS? And what about all those college graduates who are having difficulty finding their first job? They have said virtually nothing, in spite of the fact that Obama’s actions will surely result in illegal aliens taking many of the jobs that these same young Americans are currently seeking.

Yet the public seems oddly apathetic. Only USA Today bothered to even mention the possibility that Obama’s decision might backfire. But here, too, the tone is ho-hum: http://www.usatoday.com/news/politics/story/2012-06-16/obama-immigration/55644330/1

It’s a political gamble that might fire up conservatives, many of whom remain cool to Republican candidate Mitt Romney. Democrats think it’s more likely to inspire enthusiasm among groups that were crucial to Obama’s 2008 victory — young voters, women and Hispanics.

Democrats have always pandered to the various minority communities. This latest move is simply the most blatant. But have the Democrats correctly assumed that younger voters, in spite of losing their job to an illegal alien, will still line up like sheep to vote for him again?

If it turns out that Obama really can use executive fiat to virtually spit in the faces of American workers and yet still count on getting their vote, then my confidence in our ability to survive as a nation is rapidly receding…

If you are arguing that Obam’s diktat circumventing Congress then you may have a point. But if you are arguing for unemployed Americans I call it BS. Pardon my french.

If you think through this, our job creators and firms would benefit from the downward wage pressure. It is not the responsibility of our firms to create jobs for Americans. They are only beholden to their shareholders to make profits. If you have noticed, American firms are doing ell by moving manufacturing , Tech jobs etc overseas. Either start a successful business or stop whining. Be an adult and learn to be on your own. It is NOT the government’s job or the private sector’s job to give Americans a job.

Dragan – I wholeheartedly agree, especially with your view that it is not the responsibility of government (or any employer, for that matter) to “give” anyone a job. The only thing government can (and should) do is to get out of the way, by cutting taxes and regulations,

My only point was that Obama’s shameless pandering to a specific demographic group (young Hispanics) was detrimental to some of his most ardent supporters, yet they appear to be unconcerned.

Oh, and being against excessive taxation and government interference is not “whining” – business owners are just expressing their dissatisfaction with too much government.

You should be happy to have a choice of another million working age adults available at minimum wage. With regards to taxes, just register your business as a Cayman Islands or Swiss company. You should be fine and you may pay zero taxes. So stop the taxes thingy. Now for regulations, I dont know what business you run. But if your business is impacted by regulations then you should protest. But protesting against Obama hispanic executive order has nothing to do with protesting against regulations.

P.S. As a fiscal conservative, I consider it irresponsible to hire Americans due to their higher costs. As a shareholder in some companies, I plan to sue them for hiring Americans at any levels. I am ok with more people flooding this country. I dont want to pay more than minimum wage for ANY kind of job (Blue collar / White Collar)
