President Obama’s recent announcement (or should I say, pronouncement) that the Justice Department is basically going to give a pass to illegal aliens who just happen to fit into a certain demographic has engendered all sorts of reactions. Oddly, the response has included little of the kind of outrage one would expect.

“Even in an era where partisanship is on the rise, demographic changes exert a gravitational pull on policy and politics and are occasionally enough to overcome political divisions.What is more remarkable than President Obama’s decision on Friday to suspend deportations of some illegal immigrants is Republicans’ relatively passive reaction to it.“

The L.A. “President Obama’s decision to extend administrative relief to an estimated 800,000 young illegal immigrants has won favor with Latino voters in key battleground states, according to a new poll.“

Great for Obama, but his blatant endorsement of the needs of illegal aliens over those of American workers will send a clear signal to anyone sitting in some Mexican hovel that “the door is now open” – a fresh flood of young illegals is sure to follow. After all, how will the government know when any individual actually came here?

Given this outrageous action, where is the opposition from the 23 million unemployed, you know, the ones who are actually AMERICAN CITIZENS? And what about all those college graduates who are having difficulty finding their first job? They have said virtually nothing, in spite of the fact that Obama’s actions will surely result in illegal aliens taking many of the jobs that these same young Americans are currently seeking.

Yet the public seems oddly apathetic. Only USA Today bothered to even mention the possibility that Obama’s decision might backfire. But here, too, the tone is ho-hum: http://www.usatoday.com/news/politics/story/2012-06-16/obama-immigration/55644330/1

It’s a political gamble that might fire up conservatives, many of whom remain cool to Republican candidate Mitt Romney. Democrats think it’s more likely to inspire enthusiasm among groups that were crucial to Obama’s 2008 victory — young voters, women and Hispanics.

Democrats have always pandered to the various minority communities. This latest move is simply the most blatant. But have the Democrats correctly assumed that younger voters, in spite of losing their job to an illegal alien, will still line up like sheep to vote for him again?

If it turns out that Obama really can use executive fiat to virtually spit in the faces of American workers and yet still count on getting their vote, then my confidence in our ability to survive as a nation is rapidly receding…
