In the end, 2,101 registered Republicans (60 per cent plus 1 of the 3,500 delegates at the nominating convention) decided whether incumbent Republican Sen. Bob Bennett would enjoy the privilege of a chance to be elected on the primary or general election ballot. It’s been reported in the press by one of the Utah Republican Party nominating convention delegates that about 75,000 registered Republicans bothered to attend the Party caucuses to elect the nominating convention delegates.

It was these registered Republicans who bothered to go to a caucus, not bloggers, not political pundits, not the other registered Utah Republican voters, who set the wheels in motion. The Utah version of The Neighborhood Precinct Committeeman Strategy decided the outcome — and in the end only 2,101 registered Republicans, who by going to their local caucus had the privilege to attend the nominating convention, and followed through by actually attending, made the difference.

Bravo to those conservatives who were among the 75,000 who got involved! Bravo to those grass roots conservatives in Utah who figured out where the real political power lies — INSIDE the Republican Party!
