John McCain and Mitt Romney both flub “what can we DO” questions — so sad
June 4, 2010, Mesa, Arizona — Today John McCain and Mitt Romney appeared at Mesa High in Mesa, Arizona for a town hall style meeting. To their credit, they made only brief opening remarks and then answered unscripted questions from the audience. I was not able to stay for the entire event, but I did get to hear some very disappointing answers to pointed questions. I had my trusty first-generation FlipVideo digital camera with me and a Casio Exilim digital camera. I shot some video. Then, up to YouTube with it and now to you here.
The first question came from an exasperated lady who truly wanted to know what Arizona citizens could DO to assist Sen. McCain and the government in helping to have our immigration laws, including the new Arizona law SB 1070, enforced so that Arizonans would become more safe.
Nothing about “getting involved in party politics because, for example, HALF the precinct committeemen slots in one of the Arizona parties are VACANT.” Just, and I’m paraphrasing, “speak up, keep being active, keep talking to your friends, and have your friends outside of Arizona visit Arizona.”
Next came a more disappointing performance. A survivor of Nazism and Communism, with true fear in his voice, asked, pointedly, what could be done to wake up Americans so they would get involved in politics to stop, politically, what was coming for America under Obama’s regime. Unfortunately I ran out of memory so the first clip ends abruptly; the second part comes after I turned on my other camera, but nothing but babble about Romney’s book was lost. Note that Romney does NOT answer the question about what he and Sen. McCain will DO to wake up the American people so that they would get involved in politics. At least I couldn’t find that in the answer. Sen. McCain took a pass.
Before the town hall meeting, at the “backstage meeting,” I was able to ask Sen. McCain what strategy he, Sen. McConnell and Sen. Kyl had for employing all of the Senate Standing Rules to stop the “amnesty for illegals” legislation and the rest of the horrendous legislation coming down the pike from Harry Reid and the rest of the Dems between now and the Nov. 2 election. I also asked what strategy they had to bypass the “Minion Media” and to go straight to the American people via outlets such as Fox News, talk radio, e-mail and the internet generally.
Sen. McCain did not have a very good answer regarding strategy, but he did say that he does not believe that Harry Reid will bring forward a “comprehensive immigration reform” bill or any other major piece of legislation between now and Nov. 2 because the Dem leadership is afraid of putting their fellow Dems on record as supporting controversial legislation in addition to having supported Obamacare. All Sen. McCain said regarding strategy, and I pressed him on giving us an outline of his strategy, was that the Republican senators would “do everything” to stop bad legislation from passing.
