Our Republican Party — It’s really strong, no?

Let’s take a look at our Republican Party. I’ll bet you think it’s in really great shape in its active ranks.

As we all know, every Republican National Committee delegate seat is filled. You may have watched some of the proceedings on C-Span of the RNC annual meeting and elections. Yessiree, everyone was so happy and everything seemed so perfect. All the officer positions were filled.

Then drop down to the state level. Every state has an elected chairman — none of those seats go begging. (The state chairmen also serve as RNC delegates.) And all of the state officer slots are filled, I’m sure.

Now this is where it starts to get a little interesting — the county level. I’ve been told that there are some counties in the United States where the Republican Party doesn’t even have a full-fledged county committee. And, I’ve been told, that nationwide, over half of the precinct committeeman slots in the Republican Party are unfilled. Over half.

If you watched the RNC proceedings on C-Span, did you hear any discussion of this? If you watched any of the Conservative Political Action Conference proceedings on C-Span, did you hear any discussion of this fact? Have you ever heard any incumbent Republican implore conservatives to come into the Party as precinct committeemen? Can you find video on the internet of any incumbent Republican congressman or senator imploring the Republican registered voters in their district or state to come into the Party at the precinct level as precinct committeemen?

Why do they not? Simple. It is not in their self-interest to do so. Even a good conservative Republican congressman will not breathe a word about the need for conservatives to fill up all of the vacant precinct committeeman slots at the “bottom” of the Party because, if that happens, there is a risk that those new conservative precinct committeemen might join with the other conservative precinct committeemen already inside the Party and turn on him in the primary election if a better, more conservative, primary challenger emerges. On the other hand, if the status quo does not change at all by the time of the next primary election, the incumbent has about a 97 per cent chance of winning that all-important, traditionally-very-low-turnout primary election.

Let us take my county, Maricopa County, Arizona, for example. Yes, all of the county leadership posts are filled. And in the 18 legislative districts within the county, all of the leadership positions are filled. But, on average, less than fifty per cent of the precinct committeemen slots are filled in each legislative district.

I’m in Legislative District 17. We have 277 allotted precinct committeemen slots, but only 113 filled. All the officer slots are filled, but only about forty per cent of the really powerful slots, the individual precinct committeemen slots, are filled. And that’s why the “leaders” will never breathe a word of this state of affairs to the “unwashed masses.” Because if conservatives figure out that they can flock into the Republican Party and fill up all the vacant precinct committeemen slots, those conservatives will have a majority. And with that majority, they can elect conservative leaders at the local committee, county committee, state committee and national committee levels.

With those majorities, they can also vote to endorse the best conservative candidates in the upcoming 2012 primary elections.

Becoming a precinct committeeman — a voting member of the Party — is not hard. The requirements are not onerous and vary from state to state. But know this: in most states, the “leaders” of the Republican Party DO NOT WANT YOU TO FIND OUT ABOUT THIS AND COME IN AN UPSET THEIR APPLE CARTS. They like the status quo just fine. Just like all those happy faces you saw at the RNC annual meeting if you happened to watch their proceedings. None of them said a word about the fact that over half of the precinct committeemen slots at the local committee level are unfilled. It is not in their self-interest to say a word about it.

Want some of this political power? Want to save your country? Well, you better hurry up. Because in some states the deadlines for becoming a precinct committeemen in time to be in a position to vote in the Party endorsement elections are expiring right now.

To take back our government, by electing constitutional conservatives, we first have to take back a Party. Our Party. The Republican Party. The way to do that is to fill every vacant precinct committeeman slot with a warm, conservative body. YOURS.

That’s according to the GA GOP website. Click the “Download County Party List” here: http://www.gagop.org/local/index.php

    Shameful.

Been a member of my committe for 15 years, and seen its ups and downs, but the size of the committee was never a great indicator. We were much better with 20 committed, level headed activists that actually worked than with 20 such activists and 20 more blowhards and malcontents. Sometimes, we just filled the ranks to max allotment and it backfired.

I’d rather go to warr with 20 good men than 20 good men and 20 more liabilities.

wouldn’t you rather have 21 committed activists? Or 25? Who is going to replace your 20 good men when they get too old to do much? Have you thought about how to recruit and train your replacement?

What about the counties where there is no GOP committee at all? Wouldn’t you be better able to elect statewide candidates if you had a little help from those counties?

Sorry, but status quo is just going to give us long term defeat. We’re looking to have long term success.

I’d think people are waking up and are much more motivated to get involved these days. So I’d think the quality level of new members would be going up.

Someday, perhaps, party leaders will *get* the fact that this is filling every foxhole and arming every civilian to fight the good fight.

Utah and Idaho must have different requirements than Rhode Island and Delaware.

When I come across information on the ‘net about how to become a precinct committeeman, I post it on my little blog. In some cases, some states have very good “how to” guides — for example, Arizona and Illinois. On the other hand, some states’ Republican parties seem to guard this information as top secret, classified information.

In the final analysis, it’s up to “we the people” to take back our government. The first step in doing that for us conservatives is to take back the Republican Party.

I stopped blaming the Republican Party long ago. I blame “we the people.” Well, those of “we the people” who have no good reason for not becoming a precinct committeeman. But it seems everyone’s got an excuse for not becoming one.

I sure hope and pray that “we the people” don’t collectively shrug as we lose our country to the likes of these people:

I lived in Madison, WI for three years. These people who live in their leftist fantasy world are real and they are dangerous and they want political power and they are going to take it if YOU don?t do something to stop them.

The way to stop them is to organize politically.

And that means finding your local Republican Party committee meeting and going to it and taking every conservative you know along with you. NOW!

      Thank you.

and it doesn’t give much in the way of information on how to be a voting member of the GOP. It is sad because Rhode Island is the economic basket case of the northeast right now. You can thank the Democrats who have dominated the state for years for the mess RI is in.

Which essentially amounts to writing a check. I joined a local GOP club, and got to know the staffers. They decided to improve their numbers for precinct committeeman. I asked to be one, and they said OK. So I expected to learn some next steps as to what to do. I never did. I called and spike with one of the staffers and he told me they had me down as one, but There was nothing going on that needed my support. I was really frustrated.

Then I got an email from the county GOP saying the precinct caucuses would be at a certain date, time and place. I went. We were allowed 10 voting members for our precinct. We just had two there. So now I will be voting at the March meeting

It is frustrating that it was so hard to learn what I had to do, but I kept at it. I also do GOTV for state GOP too.

Its working, slowly. Wait until the primaries start, nobody knows what they will look like this year with all the grassroots activists inside the Party. They’re gonna be exciting times!

I have been reading your posts for over a year now. Until recently, I was not in a position to be able to do anything. That all changed with a relocation and new job. I have recently become involved with the county GOP here in Williamson county, TX. As it turns out there is already a PC for the precinct that I live in, but that may very well change when the redistricting is done. As it stands right now I am going to be assisting the current PC in her duties and doing my best to influence people to show up and vote conservative in the primary. I want you to know that this is in no small part due to your hard work. Had it not been for you and Redstate, I would not even have known about the precinct committeman position (or chair as it is called in TX).

I saw you a post a little while ago where you lamented the frustration you feel that you work is going unnoticed. Just thought I would let you know that it hasn’t. I’m in, and I will be in for as long as it takes.

    Thanks.

and thanks also for outlining exactly what we all need to do: show up and volunteer and, in the unlikely event that all the available slots are filled, become a “helper.”

Keep us informed here about your progress in your neck of the woods.

Thank you again for all you are doing.

      Best regards,

Be sure to ask your PC if you can be her alternate so you can vote in her absence. There are a lot of options to get that all-important vote.

    From The Hill:

Republican Sen. Lugar to oppose House GOP’s $61B spending cuts

Oh, but Lugar might be “primaried.”

Lugar, who is facing a Tea Party-backed challenge in the 2012 Indiana Republican primary, is taking a political risk. But he and other centrist Republicans have concerns about steep spending cuts that will eliminate funding for some federal programs in mid-year.

Well, I wonder how many conservative Republicans in Indiana will flock into their respective Republican Party local committee meetings to make that happen. Saying something will happen, and actually making it happen, are two different things.

In Indiana? Conservative? Want to get involved? Here are the rules (and, I trust you will be resourceful and will find your local committee and get to the meetings — oh, and by the way, looks like Indiana is on a four-year precinct committeeman election cycle, and you won’t be able to get elected until the 2012 elections):

    http://www.indgop.org/ContentFiles/80/Rules%20Revised%201-20-2010.pdf

And here’s a nice overview created by someone in Floyd County:

    http://www.daveweb1a.com/GOP/pcelect.html

From the Floyd County web page, this is good:

JUST THINK NUMBERS FOR A MINUTE?..

    2 National Committeemen
    4 State Officers
    36 District Officers
    384 County Officers
5602 Precincts in Indiana (This would be 11,204 people if all committeemen and vice committeemen spots were filled.)

You can see by the sheer numbers who touches and influences the most people. This is why your role as a committeeman is so important. The success of the Party rests with you!! You are the front line. People elect you because they know and respect your opinion. They depend on you to lead them?motivate them?give advice and answer their questions and listen to their concerns. You are the Public Relations person for your precinct.

Good luck, Indiana conservatives! Make us proud!

By the way, I tried to find more information at the Indiana Republican Party web site. They make things so easy — first, if you want to see what’s on their web site, you’ve got create a user ID and password. Very helpful.

    Thank you.

I took a look at the professed purposes of Redstate, which you can find here (Go to Help, click on the “rules for posting”).

    Here they are:

    The purpose of RedState.com is:

    * to promote conservative ideals within the vehicle of the Republican Party,
    * to clean house in the Republican party,
    * to help elect conservative Republicans,
    * and to encourage and educate conservative Republican activists committed to the above.

These are very good purposes. And it seems to me the best, most effective way to carry them out is for each of us to become a “player” inside the Republican Party. And that means becoming a precinct committeemen, if possible. And if all the slots are filled, no matter — just become a “helper” to another precinct committeeman and learn the ropes and help out.

How best “to promote conservative ideals within the vehicle of the Republican Party?” If you want to get inside “the vehicle of the Republican Party,” you have to open its door, so to speak, and climb in. The door you have to open is your local committee meeting door — that’s where you’ll learn how to become a voting member of the Party, a precinct committeeman. At those meetings, and during the leadership elections, where you’ll be able to vote for the Party leader candidates (only precinct committeemen get to do this), you’ll be best able to “promote conservative ideals within the vehicle of the Republican Party”

How best “to clean house in the Republican Party?” Become a Republican Party member, because you aren’t really “in” the Republican Party until you become a voting member of it.

How best “to help elect conservative Republicans?” Become a Republican Party precinct committeeman, so you can help get out the vote in the all-important, traditionally-very-low-turnout primary for the conservative Republican candidates.

But you better hurry. Because in some states, the deadlines have already passed for becoming a voting member of the Party during the upcoming 2012 election cycle.

    Thank you.
