Redstate’s purposes and how BEST to carry them out

I took a look at the professed purposes of Redstate, which you can find here (Go to Help, click on the “rules for posting”).

Here they are:

The purpose of RedState.com is:

* to promote conservative ideals within the vehicle of the Republican Party,
* to clean house in the Republican party,
* to help elect conservative Republicans,
* and to encourage and educate conservative Republican activists committed to the above.

These are very good purposes. And it seems to me the best, most effective way to carry them out is for each of us to become a “player” inside the Republican Party. And that means becoming a precinct committeemen, if possible. And in the unlikely event that all the slots are filled, no matter — just become a “helper” to another precinct committeeman and learn the ropes and help out until a vacancy comes into being. Indeed, on average, in every locale in the country, more than half of the precinct committeeman slots are unfilled, so you’ll have a very good chance of filling up a slot that’s begging for a warm, conservative body. Yours.

Back to the Redstate purposes. Let us examine them one at a time.

How best “to promote conservative ideals within the vehicle of the Republican Party?” If you want to get inside “the vehicle of the Republican Party,” you have to open its door, so to speak, and climb in. The door you have to open is your local committee meeting door — that is where you’ll learn how to become a voting member of the Party, a precinct committeeman. At those meetings, and during the leadership elections, where you’ll be able to vote for the Party leader candidates (only precinct committeemen get to do this), you’ll be best able to “promote conservative ideals within the vehicle of the Republican Party”

How best “to clean house in the Republican Party?” Become a Republican Party member, because you aren’t really “in” the Republican Party until you become a voting member of it.

How best “to help elect conservative Republicans?” Become a Republican Party precinct committeeman, so you can help get out the vote in the all-important, traditionally-very-low-turnout primary elections for the conservative Republican candidates.

But you better hurry. Because in some states, the deadlines have already passed for becoming a voting member of the Party during the upcoming 2012 election cycle.

Thank you.

For Liberty,

ColdWarrior

…than I am about reading basic documents like missions and purposes.

Glad you read RD’s purpose because what you say is absolutely true.

    Thanks for the research, CW!

Many areas are currently having the Precinct, County, District, and then State Republican conventions. My county, Monroe County, GA is having the Precinct and then the County convention this Saturday, March 12. I plan on attending. I would encourage all to find out when the conventions are being held and attend. That is the best way to bring about “change” or “clean house” as was mentioned in this diary. Get involved. It works.

though I would note that to do those things… and do them creditably… requires time that not everyone has.

But we all do need to do what we can within the constraints of our abilities.

I have gotten more involved as you have exhorted us to. I still have to be a little circumspect because of my teaching job.

Over the recent weeks I have met a lot of people who have attended Tea Parties and people ARE getting more involved!

    The future looks better.

Cold warrior is right. But why? He realized early on, that the political narative has been captured by loosers. Liberals. Dems. The left. What ever you want to call them, they are loosers. But, as we all know, loosers are very dangerous, powerful and persuasive. They must be stopped or we all drown. Period.

A looser. A looser when playing golf hits the ball out of bounds then states, he intended to do so and starts a campaign by receiving a grant for seed money to change the rules because they are unfair. Who actually funds the grant. Winners, because they have accepted the game and the rules and have prospered.

This scares the hell out of the looser, Loosers are inadequate emotional babies. Can’t win by the rules, change the rules. Can’t get a job in the private sector, work for the government and start a union. Angre that people don’t agree with you that you are the center of the universe, start a religion. Afraid you won’t get your fair share, become a politican and appeal to the like minded.

Winners, they are too focused on living their lives as God intended. Free, creatively and with respect to ttheir fellow man. They had the courage to get on a boat, cross an ocean and start a life without having to ask permission to have children.

It is up to the winners to stop this insanity. So, to CW’s point, depending on how much this bothers you, will determine how much time and effort you put forth. As Billy Joel says, we didn’t start the fire… It will be the winners that stop the burning…. and you don’t have to be a member of the Firefighters Union. Just a good ole volunteer.

Your points are well taken, but ‘looser’ means to undo your belt a few notches, while ‘loser’ is the opposite of ‘winner.’

What more is there to say?

I thank you so much, Mr. Warrior, for your dogged work on behalf of a conservative Republican party– and thus a Constitutional, liberty-scented nation.

    Truly. Thank you.

to look at the Party is to examine where it has full participation and where it does not. And, unfortunately, what we find is that the Party has the lowest level of participation at the the most important level — the precinct level. The “we the people” level. Which suits those at the “higher” levels just fine.

Others have made this observation about the Republican Party: it?s ?100 per cent strong? in all the leadership slots, but at less that half strength where it really matters ? where the rubber meets the road, where the Get Out The Vote efforts really matters and where the voting for the leadership BEGINS: at the precinct level.

RNC level? All the RNC delegate slots are filled, of course.

State level? All the state committee elected positions are filled.

County level? Virtually all of the county committee elected positions are filled.

Legislative District/town level? Virtually all of the elected positions are filled.

But, at the most basic level, in ?we the people?s? respective precincts, there?s a huge power vacuum. That?s where over half of the precinct committeeman slots are unfilled. And that’s where ?we the conservative Republican people? can really make a difference. Because it?s the precinct committeemen who elect the leadership. If we conservative Republicans would get off our collective arses and actually go to the local committee meetings and unite politically where we live, in our respective local committees, we could fix this government in one election cycle. But that would mean the following:

    - actually going to monthly meetings

    - reading and studying a few pages of state, county and local bylaws

    - maybe, depending on the state, having to gather up to ten(!) signatures on a nominating petition

    - helping with Get Out The Vote activities

    - knocking on a few targeted doors to help get out the Republican vote during the days leading up to the primary and general elections

    - making a few phone calls.

None of this is hard. It just takes a little bit of time and effort. And, probably, rearranging our priorities.

I advocate giving your hard-earned dollars to your local candidates and your local committee. And give your ?sweat equity? to your local Party committee by joining it and becoming a precinct committeeman.

I keep trying to push this strategy, but for some people, they?ve always got an excuse. Believe me, I?ve heard them all.

    - I?m better at writing.

    - I can do more with a blog.

    - I don?t like to go to meetings.

    - I don?t have time.

    - I can?t make a difference.

    - I give money.

    - I make phone calls and send e-mails.

    Etc. I?ve heard them all.

Believe me, I understand there are some people who just can?t do it. And I don?t fault them. But most conservative Republicans just haven?t been moved to actually get involved in Republican party politics at the local level because, I believe, things just haven?t gotten bad enough for them to act to help themselves and the futures of their children and grandchildren. They are playing a game of ?chicken.? They are willing to hope that some other guy or gal will get involved so they don?t have to.

Thomas Paine called them ?sunshine patriots.?

Thanks for getting involved. And, again, for the kind words. We can do this thing — getting our government back — if we first unite politically and work together inside the Republican Party. But, we have to actually DO it and not just talk about it.

    Thank you again.

at a Town Republican Committee meeting. You should be a registered Republican and be willing to cough up ten to twenty dollars for annual dues. No elections or nomination petitions necessary. Meetings are usually once a month for 1 to 2 hours.

The 2012 Presidential candidates are going to be going to Republican Town Committee meetings in NH this year. This is a good time to meet the candidates and ask them questions.

I just met Herman Cain last night at our County Committee Lincoln Reagan Dinner.

All I’ve been able to find on the net in terms of “how it works” in New Hampshire is the Bylaws of the New Hampshire Republican Party. Here’s what those Bylaws say about the County and City Committees:

      3. Caucuses:

The State Chairman will also call biennial meetings of the County and City Committees for the purpose of holding a caucus to elect members of the Committee. These meetings must take place during the period beginning immediately following the biennial election and ending by December 15th. All qualified registered Republicans nominated shall be included on the ballot for consideration of election at these meetings. The State Chairman will be responsible for notifying all members by mail at least 10 days before the day of the meeting. Only members of the Committee shall elect the county and city committee officers.

I have linked the Bylaws at my little PC recruitment blog:

      http://www.nhgop.org/pages/detail/33

Do you know of a “how to become a committeeman” guide for New Hamshire that’s online?

And, did Herman Cain say anything specific about “getting involved” in terms of conservative Republican committee members doing their utmost to increase the ranks of the Republican committee?

      Thanks again,

based on what you have done. I also provided info on PROCINCT in the NH Groups. My handle is my own name there.

    http://nhprecinctproject.wordpress.com/

This info you are looking for on the NH GOP website but you have to dig to find it. I provided links on my own page.

Herman Cain did not mention committee involvement. I can only assume that he didn’t need to since his audience has already done that, either by running for office or becoming voting members of the party.

I was unable to drill down into the NH Rep. Party to find the information you did. Thanks for creating your blog and putting all the links on it!

    Well done!

but it was you who encouraged me to get involved with my local committee back in 2009. I started at the local level over a year ago. I learned how to GOTV through door knocking and talking to voters with a congressional campaign in 2010. (That took me out of my comfort zone.) I ran for Delegate in the primary and lost, but manged to get my name on the recommended nominees list for our County/State Committee membership. This January I voted for our new state party chair Jack Kimball.

My only regret is I didn’t do this earlier.
