Want To Change John Boehner? It’s Up To The Conservatives In His District

If you want to put real pressure on John Boehner to change into a fighter for our individual rights, then you must somehow figure out a way to get the conservatives who live in John Boehner’s district to get inside the Republican Party itself. Do you think the Republican Party committees in John Boehner’s district would be imploring conservatives to come into their respective committees as voting members of it — precinct committeemen? If you thought that, you would be wrong.

John Boehner represents Ohio’s 8th Congressional District.

The following counties are within the 8th Congressional District:

Butler
Montgomery
Darke
Mercer
Miami
Preble

If you want to get an idea of why Boehner keeps getting re-elected, take a look at the web sites of the Republican committees of thsoe counties. You’ll see not one word imploring conservative Republicans, who support the Party Platform, to come into the Party to become voting members of it — precinct committeemen — who can then vote for the Party leaders and help get out the vote for the best conservative candidates in the all-important, traditionally-very-low-turnout primary elections. Not. One. Word. Don’t believe me? Go look at the web sites yourself.

They ask for volunteers. They tell you about the Republican clubs. But they won’t say a WORD about where the real power lies — becoming voting members of the Party, precinct committeemen.

And that’s by design. They don’t want the good, decent, conservative Republicans to come into the Party and challenge their power. Do you blame them? I don’t. They are acting in their own self-interest.

I blame all the conservatives who can’t seem to figure out the simple fact that if they want to change the Republican Party they have to join it by becoming precinct committeemen — especially in light of the fact that over half of the precinct committeemen slots are vacant. This is basic American Civics and basic common sense.

If you want to change Boehner, then get conservatives in the above counties to get to their local Republican Party committee meetings and become precinct committeeman. Here’s a link to a tutorial on how to do it (it’s based on 2010 dates; the 2012 election cycle dates will be similar). And, the beauty of Ohio’s system is that NO ONE can keep any Republican from becoming a precinct committeeman other than the Republican voters in each precinct — because in Ohio, precinct committeemen are ELECTED by the registered voters of each political party.

But how about focusing on LaTourette, Mica and other “moderates” in solidly conservative districts? If we could elect conservatives in those districts, leaders like Boehner will follow,

  • http://www.theprecinctproject.wordpress.com ColdWarrior

Do what I did for LaTourette’s district and post it here.

tomtflorida has done some great reporting re Mica and how they plan to primary him:

    http://www.redstate.com/tomtflorida/2011/03/14/an-open-letter-to-john-mica/

I have created a similar strategy re our “Cantor Problem”:

A Strategy for Solving Our ?Cantor Problem? ? But It Requires ACTION. NOW!

Bottom line: if conservatives want to fix the Republican Party, they have to get away from keyboards and reset their priorities. We have to roll up our sleeves and get to our respective local Republican Party committee meetings where we can unite politically where it really matters — in the actual ball game of politics: party politics. That ball game is played at the monthly local Republican Party committee meetings. And that’s where we conservatives are weakest and where the Party is weakest. But, that’s where the answer lies — we have a tremendous opportunity to exploit all those vacant precinct committeeman slots if we’ll just ACT.

    Thank you.

Maybe I am just unaware of the process, but isn’t there a way to get the rolls of Republican voters in an area? Couldn’t we use those to contact Republicans in Boehner’s area, and encourage their participation in the process, like making personal contact and educating them on their opportunity to be part of the positive change or becoming a PC? Maybe it would be too time intensive, or cost too much, but person to person contact is a powerful way to get a message out. Wouldn’t some quiet Republican in Ohio be blown away by getting a personal call or card from some other state, encouraging them to take back their local party, and perhaps take that step to PC?

Probably, knowing RedState et al, someone is already on it…..

interested in writing the next blog post that is going to somehow save the world than actually getting involved in the much harder, and more mundane, aspects of getting more conservative involved in the actual political process. I think most believe that mass media is somehow going to get conservative voters to the polls on primary and general election day and also convince registered independents and Democrats to vote for the conservative candidates.

Of course, the reality is much different.

Your idea is a worthy one. The Redstate moderators can probably tell us, for example, how many site visitors are from Boehner’s district. How many of them have become precinct committeeman since 2008? Probably not too many.

I think a better approach is to get the existing conservative precinct committeemen in Boehner’s district to do the necessary recruiting themselves. They have the tools to do it. Ohio has a system like Arizona’s — the registered Republicans in each precinct elect their precinct committeemen on primary election day. And, it only takes 5 signatures to get onto the ballot for the office of precinct committeeman. It’s really up to the conservatives everywhere to take back the Republican Party. Sadly, it just seem that not enough conservatives either know about how to take back the Party, care to try to find out how to do it (it’s not hard and it’s just common sense), or, even if they do know how to do it, don’t seem to care enough to actually make it happen.

And, yes, a direct mail piece or robo call could be targeted at specific registered Republicans and conservative independents. There are companies that can do this kind of “micro-targeting” of potential voters. But, people toss direct mail in the trash and don’t answer their phone or listen to their voice messages. I think the best approach is to have a personal door knock, if possible (knowing full well some won’t answer the door) with literature left behind at the door if no one answers. “Neighborly” telephone calls, one local Republican to another, to “survey” them so as to identify the conservatives, works for identifying which Republicans to try to recruit.

But, I believe it’s really up to the conservatives in Boehner’s district to “step up” and organize and recruit. There’s no cavalry. All of us have to be the cavalry where we live.

is to somehow make them fear that they will not be re-elected if they don’t become one. Next best way is to replace them with someone that is a statesman. All statesmen are fighters and act correctly without regard to the impact on re-election. I’m having trouble identifying any true statesmen at present. Maybe you know some CW.

then he would have something to really cry about.

And we should be up to giving him that reason, too.

I was reading this article earlier this evening and thought you might find it interesting.

    http://biggovernment.com/pdennis/2011/03/24/republicans-shouldnt-take-tea-party-for-granted/

It’s primarily hearsay, but there is enough evidence in the actions of Republican leadership to indicate that what is being stated in this article is the truth.

They aren’t cowards. They just aren’t conservatives, don’t have conservative values, don’t really want to reduce the deficit, don’t really care whether or not Obamacare is repealed, and choose to act in a way that throws obstacles in the path of conservatives who do want to succeed in these things.

    • http://www.theprecinctproject.wordpress.com ColdWarrior

there really were only about 17 “real” conservatives.

      Who’s fault is that?

It’s ours. All the conservatives who are too damn busy and too damn “important” and too damn witty and too damn “good at writing” and too damn [fill in the blank to complete the excuse] to spend a few hours a month to participate in their local Republican Party committee meetings and then follow through and become a precinct committeeman.

      Thank you.

all the Ohio tea partiers to become Ohio Republican Party precinct committeemen.

    Go here for the latest:

    http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748703784004576221013675318424.html

I think I know the answer to that.

Will the Ohio tea partiers figure out The Neighborhood Precinct Committeeman Strategy?

I hope so. It’s not like I haven’t told the “national coordinators” of Tea Party Patriots, mentioned in the Wall Street Journal article, repeatedly, since the summer of 2009, about the Strategy.

But they seem to have another, more self-centered, agenda. I think it has something to do with money.

However, unless it comes from within his own district, he will blow it off like he has been doing all year. Until he is threatened, he won’t care.

I am in South Dakota and my new Rep. who is in the leadership, Kristi Noem has already been co opted too. I am struggling to get voters to notice here too.

    • http://www.theprecinctproject.wordpress.com ColdWarrior

But, as we here in the Phoenix area continue to recruit more conservatives to come into the Party as precinct committeemen, “we the people” will exert more influence over him.

If we don’t, we won’t. It’s that simple.

Good news! Got a report from a PC I recruited next door in Legislative District 20 that, since January, they have increased their strength from about 110 PCs to 170. And almost all of the new ones are conservatives.

      Pray. Recruit. Repeat.

Every time I start thinking my rep gets it, he takes 2 steps back (like voting for the CR).

I’m still slowly but surely trying to become a “steering” committee member which is a step up from where I am as an at-large executive committee member. It’s a slow, confusing process, and I’m stuck between a rock and a hard place at this point. The rock is the Republican establishment that doesn’t really want outsiders coming in to rock the boat. The hard place is a small group of tea partiers with a hard-working leader who has already done a lot of the research and is recruiting new members from our tea party group, but he is a Ron Paul fan. I can’t afford to alienate either side at this point because I’ll need votes from both sides. Just hoping I can play along, get the spot and then let them know I’m not just a yes vote for either side. However, I have to say that at least now when I call my rep and tell the staffers that I am an executive committee member and working toward the steering position, they do give me a little more time.

Can’t blame Behner or the rest of the House Republicans for not getting the spending cuts they want thru. We only gave them the House. They need the Senate and White House to accomplish the spending cuts etc. The Democrats hold the Senate and Obama will veto anything that is a huge cut OR a small cut, so to save the USA———–vote the Democrats and Obama OUT.

What a great read. I will be checking to my state of KS. If you can help me locate KS precinct committeemen … please email: usanovak@gmail.com. Thanks. Jim in Overland Park
