MEMBER DIARY

Will this be promoted from the Diaries? Probably not. Oh well. Let’s have more mental masturbation.

You know, I am a very patient person and I not only ran for office and got elected to office, but I have been encouraging conservative activists for a number of years to get involved in politics, at precincts and beyond.

But I do hope if I ever got as obnoxiously self aggrandizing as this whole farce of a diary reads, someone would take me behind a woodshed and reteach me some basic humility.

I’ve had enough of this bull. Improve your manners or take your schtick elsewhere. Talking down to the crowd makes them hate you, not want to join you.

than mental masturbation is the endless whining about why we are going to lose in November from people who won’t get in the game of politics by joining their local party.

    • Scope

There are a ton of people that are pushing the conservative message that have not joined the local party apparatus. Of course the Paulbots have decided that they are more than willing to join CW’s agenda. If CW can come on here and admit that he isn’t looking to make the tent so big, that it eventually folds in on itself, I’ll agree with the agenda. So far there is no indication that CW isn’t even willing to take the code pinkos into the party, to make me think his approach isn’t not only wrongheaded, but destructive to the Republican party. On the contrary, I would blame CW for the ultimate kooks being a part of the problem, that were welcomed into the party.

      • http://redmerrimack.blogspot.com/ charliebravoNH

You don’t know what your talking about. In NH we have a lot of Ron Paul supporters. Some have joined GOP organizations but most the so called “paulbots” aren’t willing to make the commitment necessary beyond Ron Paul to be a member of the party. Voting in Caucuses and Straw polls for Ron Paul doesn’t mean you are a member of the Republican Party.

  • Thomas Crown

    It’s “Tommy,” friend. Try it.

Moving on, I want you to ponder something: You ceaselessly talk about what you believe to be the solution to a host of ills. I mean, “ceaselessly” may be the greatest use of meiosis in the history of the English language in this context.

And you actually have a good point.

BUT! Your intended audience mocks you (and not just because you haven’t mastered basic English composition), ignores you, or, worse, seems to agree with you, then does … nothing.

    Why?

A less introspective man would write diary after diary ceaselessly pointing out how true is your faith, how righteous is your cause, how craven are the men who refuse to follow you. Or promote your diaries.

A more introspective man would perhaps ask if the messenger was diluting the message. Just a tad.

I think this would be an excellent thought exercise for you. I think there’s less than a gazebo’s chance in a supernova that you’ll undertake it, but, hey.

At least I got to play a bit part in your latest round of Onanist Theater.

…the example in the Bible of what the Body of Christ really is. It says that not everyone can be a foot, or a hand, or a mouth, because that would be stupid and the body would not be complete, and those who are best at being, say, feet, would not be irritated as heck about being hectored, however sincerely and lovingly, for not aspiring to be mouths. (Well, maybe the Bible didn’t say “stupid”, but I paraphrase.)

In the best case, some people could be hands, some people could be feet, some people could be the mouth, and so on, performing the different functions necessary to the Body.

And some people could raise their three daughters, eat dinner with their family, go to work each day (which involves travel), serve at their church trying to discern how best to fight back against the secularization of the denomination by the left, use their influence on the community to point out real life examples of how this administration is doing it wrong, and provide financial support and leadership to their charter school which is under assault by the local school board.

It takes a village to be a body. Or something.

in response to CW’s finger-pointing, whiny snits.

        • Jack_Savage

But the whole “if you are not a precinct committee person, you are unworthy to hold a conversation with me or to participate in any discussion” is really just a variant on the whole “chickenhawking” argument. It saddens me to see a good effort go astray, and then the premise begins to irritate me and I tune out.

I think a “here’s one way you could make a difference, I hope you prayerfully consider it, here’s how you actually do it, let me know how it goes and if there is anything I can do for you” would come off much better and be far more productive.

    • JSobieski

Just as those who read you need to decide whether to be mere amateur pontificators OR actually get involved in taking back the party, you also need to decide whether preaching the right message is enough, OR are there ways you can improve your approach.

The way a message is marketed does matter. The success of companies like Apple prove that marketing is at least as important as the product.

You have made a very signficant impact (far more than anyone I personally know), but I would like to see you become more successful.

  • http://www.itsaboutliberty.com IronDioPriest

Perhaps at the top of the page where RedState’s site links reside (“Recent Posts” “My Profile” “My Diary” “Create New Diary Entry” “Log out”), our RedState hosts could consider adding another link, called “Become a Precinct Committeeman”. This link could lead to a Cold Warrior diary, in which he could make the case as extensively and as vociferously as he would like, as to why anyone who would dare call themselves a conservative and not become a Republican committeeman is a panty-waste unworthy of a sack of testicles.

Of course, such a link would be granted with a written agreement to never, ever, ever post another condescending diary about becoming a precinct committeeman again. Then, instead of readers being incessantly accosted by a neverending string of ambush-diaries and the implied insults that accompany them, Cold Warrior could effectively reach those who genuinely and voluntarily wish to absorb his wisdom of their own free will.

Just a thought. I do find value in the message. It’s an important message. But the method of delivery has – in my humble opinion – become tiresome. There’s only so many ways to say the same damn thing. Why not say it once, put it someplace where it can be sought out easily, and be done with it?

    • streiff

it would solve some longstanding problems.

  • Common_Cents

We are now judging on style vs. substance? That got us obama last time.

Sure, CW could change up the tone and approach sometimes but big friggen deal! Instead of some positive suggestions, the guy gets blasted! I can’t believe CW gets more hateful snarky tone than some obama trolls get. LOL.

How many people does CW call out by name? (noting he just referenced TC’s entry about people getting what we deserve) I haven’t seen it once. Copy and paste the text in a reply where CW has called you out by name in a diary, aside from any exchange in comments.

CW wasn’t attacking TC but rather, pointing out that a big unused strategy(opportunity) is right in front of us in our own precincts if we want to make a difference in that way.

Has CW specifically routinely(if at all) called out particular people?

People lash back and say “i cant do it” or “I’m doing other things” or “im busy raising my family etc..” WONDERFUL!!. BUT, Why do they feel the need to lash back when you were not called out specifically. GUILT much? If you are busy, don’t want to, or doing other things, wonderful. The precinct thing doesnt have to be for everyone. If the PC thing is up your alley, go for it, if not, keep on keepin on.

    Seriously people, GROW UP.

If you are doing what you can do, why would you take offense to someone repeatedly championing a strategy within the same cause?

There have been many stories of people who didn’t know about the whole precinct thing and that CW brought it to light and his posts have finally motivated them to take some action on that strategy. They have the motivation and the time and the interest. Thats all. Some others dont and they can do other things. Big friggen deal.

Why people get their diapers in a wad is beyond me.

Breitbart was transcending and getting into more activism journalism, the same way CW has been, in different areas. No bashing of Breitbart for standing up at CPAC and telling people “We aren’t gonna take it anymore?” Then Breitbart asking everyone to join him? I’m sure Breitbart would have no problem looking you in the face and calling you a pansy for not doing something and getting more involved. OH the horror!

I’ve never met CW, never talked on the phone, don’t even think have ever emailed. I’ve been to some local precinct meetings because of it. If I didn’t want to, or was doing other things, or just didnt have the time from work or raising a family? I wouldn’t be offended at all from his posts.

His message isn’t calling out everyone but a prod and showing people another way of making a difference. Repetitive? Maybe for RS regulars, but doesnt RS get new viewers? Talk about repetitive at RS is the bitching and moaning about obama and the lame stream media bias without much discussion of solutions. (I’m guilty of it too). But everyone is fine with that chasing the tail repetition of the latest obama gaffe or media bias. Duh? Breitbart would even say, “what are ya gonna do about it?” and he stepped up.

If you are offended by that enough to lash out with snark and negative crap, you should look in the mirror because you are projecting your own guilt.

Valuing style over substance got us obama. Most everyone here at RS keep harping on past records of candidates, you know, substance. But in this case its immature people whining about style. Gee, I think the adults here can get past that and value the substance. I know you can.

    • Common_Cents

Yet people get offended online by someone they’ve never met, even after watching the videos and see that CW is just a motivated patriot taking some action, and wants to get others to join him?

The videos are very informational and motivating, especially the stories of the newly minted PCs.

      • Common_Cents

        oh well.

    • Leon H. Wolf

Maybe you ought to take a closer look at the title, which taunts us for not promoting him while at the same time including a word which guarantees that we can’t. It’s clear at this point that he doesn’t even want to get his stuff promoted, he just wants to complain about it not being promoted.

      • Common_Cents

But I tend to look at stuff as tongue in cheek. Maybe others don’t.

Especially after having watched the videos, I didn’t see some angry snarky guy in them.

Don’t see how that warranted a deletion of all the informational videos. But could see a suggestion to re-work the title for more palatable public consumption.

Let’s keep the substance and tweak the style!

  • Scope

of throwing open the door and saying come one come all, you aren’t doing your job if you don’t get inside the party, the message wasn’t lost on the Paulbots. That have been bringing chaos at Republican party meetings across the nation. If anyone thought past CPAC conventions were overrun by the Paulbot kids, who actually hurt the attendance at the CPAC conference in 2011, you ain’t seen nothing yet. Wait until the convention in Fla. in August. No one took these idiots seriously, and now they are successfully having their R3volution. Don’t think this will stop when Ron goes back home to Texas after this election. Rand is right there waiting in the wings to take over for him.

    • Common_Cents

The spots are open whether we recruit conservatives or not.

If we do nothing, Paulbots and others have been doing it anyway.

I dont get your logic about encouraging conservatives to get involved.

      • Scope

Paulbots are not conservatives, they are libertarians, or so they call themselves. Haven’t yet heard what the ideal libertarian positions would be by out resident libertarians. If the die hard Paulbots are willing to fill the seats, who have outright vowed to take over the Republican party, shouldn’t you at least have some kind of criteria to judge those seat fillers with? Maybe could we ask them what foreign policy positions they hold? Shouldn’t we ask them where they are on social issues? Wouldn’t that at least weed out the code pinkos, and the Sandra Flukes? Even Reagan said that there are some that need to go their own way. If there is so much support for the libertarians, let them build the libertarian party into what they have visions of.

        • Common_Cents

options to interview people before inviting them.

Show me where anyone is advocating having anyone unvetted sign up willy nilly? Where the heck do you come up with that?

You know what friends/neighbors/co-workers think like you in your precinct before you invite them, wouldnt you? A good starting point. Wouldnt you know what questions to ask a neighbor or coworker if you didn’t know them to vet them first?

What’s better, you deciding who you want to invite? or let anyone else invite their peers?
The point is, it’s up to you to find your own similar people. I’d think you’d trust your own judgement, over someone elses.

Think of it this way: Every minute we sit here contemplating, there is a paulbot recruiting another member for our district. Ignoring it doesn’t make the paulbot problem go away. There is an opportunity cost in doing nothing.

I’m just getting started in my area as well.

If I may humbly suggest now -this time in Cold Warrior’s defense – that RedState at least consider the suggestion I made upthread?

The incessant and redundant nature of these diaries aside, Cold Warrior has a point in that complaint without direct action is futile, and that becoming a committeeman is, in his opinion, the most effective method for direct action.

Perhaps the reason CW constantly posts these diaries is because RedState is in a unique position among conservative blogs re; visibility and republican/conservative readership.

Why not allow CW to create the committeeman diary of all diaries, complete with links to videos, encouragement, reason, and cheerleading, and post a permanent link to it at the top of the page – on the condition that further diaries about the relative merits of becoming a committeeman or demerits for lack thereof would end, forever?

Rather than looking at it as a capitulation motivated by a behavior that has been perceived negatively by some, RedState could look at it as a way to further the influence of conservatives in the Republican party, by allowing this champion advocate of committeemen to once-and-for-all speak about becoming a committeeman from the RedState platform – one time – and be done with it.

That way, rather than people clicking on a diary to find yet one more among the many others, people seeking such information would find it, right here at RedState.

Just a suggestion from the peanut gallery, from someone who has been just as annoyed as anyone else at the barrage. Looking for a way to make it into a positive.

    • tngal

I couldn’t understand what the heck got CW so ticked off, then I look and see the three paragraphs are from EE and he’s the one pissed off. But judging by the replies, I figured CW’s enthusiasm for PC went into overdrive.

    • Scope

can CW keep posting diary, after diary, after diary, many that have gone up to the most popular list, and stayed there for weeks, and still come back with this diary title. It seems to me that this is truly becoming a personal vendetta between some RS moderators, and CW. That approach will never, ever work in CW favor. It is actually sad that this whole thing has come to this, but, honestly I got tired of the approach with putting guilt on those that have not adopted, accepted, or cannot for a multitude of reasons, follow the CW approach to politics. Yes, without question, to me it is a matter of trying to make people feel guilty, and less than someone who cares about our politics if you don’t do the described route. CW cannot possibly know the circumstances in every district, in every state, but proscribes the same approach be used everywhere. If the entire country was all on the same page, that may work, however, there isn’t the first district that is the same as the other in most cases. In my case, the local GOP is doing what it can to avoid being overtaken by the Ron Paul supporters, that have threatened to do so. That is my belief, and I support the effort.

      • http://www.itsaboutliberty.com IronDioPriest

If you’ll read upthread, my initial comment was a suggestion that would end – one-and-for-all – the incessant ambushing and bludgeoning of the blog by CW on this issue, while commandeering the important part of his mission for the betterment of RedState and the GOP.

He seems to want a platform from which to espouse the merits of becoming a GOP committeeman. I suggest that rather than having him drop in every few days and offer the same diary in different words, with a dose of scorn heaped upon those who don’t find the issue as compelling as he does, that instead, RedState allow him to make one diary – as good a diary as he can make – espousing the merits and methods of becoming a committeeman, and posting a permanent link to it in the top bar – ON THE CONDITION, that the incessant posts stop, forever.

That seems like a win-win for everyone, IMHO.

        • Scope

It seems that CW is depending upon RS alone to get his message out. If the effort was so widely popular, why hasn’t the effort been at CPAC, at the Values Voters convention, and in every other avenue that that message can be shouted out? Why is RS the only venue to get the message out? Can you consider, for a minute, that the pouring on the guilt is the wrong way to go about this? CW has been warned about his messaging vehicle time and time again right here. I give credit to the moderators that have said, tone down the down and threatening angle, and the message might be more popularly received. That seems to have fallen on deaf ears. If a company’s message isn’t working, and you don’t have a lot of buyers, would you just double down on the bad message, with a WOW is me kind of title?

Cold Warrior, please change your approach, stop doubling down on the you are guilty if you don’t do what I say, to something that would be much more positive with your approach. You don’t attract supporters with vinegar.

          • JSobieski

We are guests here at RS, and his consistent sniping at the moderators is neither smart nor effective.

He has an important message, but the style and tactics matter.

          • http://www.itsaboutliberty.com IronDioPriest

If my suggestion were to be accepted, and CW’s life’s mission were to find a permanent link on RedState, it would have to be of a nature congruent with the wishes of Erick.

Certainly the condescension and berating would have to go. But a link offering positive reasoning behind becoming a committeeman, as well as some methodologies for going about becoming one couldn’t possibly be a bad thing, could it?

For that matter, it wouldn’t necessarily have to be authored by CW. I was only suggesting a way to get past what has obviously become an annoyance to many, while still addressing an issue of importance to conservatives in a positive way for RedState. In other words, instead of throwing the baby (the value of becoming involved in the GOP locally) out with the bathwater (Cold Warrior), Erick could ask Cold Warrior to drain the tub, draw some fresh water, and be done with it once and for all. CW gets to edify RS readers with his knowledge once and for all, and RS gets to be out from under his incessant diaries and the perceived insults therein.

          • Common_Cents

yet get so hung up on CW style. Take it as tongue in cheek.

If Chris Christie told you to get off your duff and get involved, would you be offended?

If Andrew Breitbart told you to get off your duff and get involved, LIKE HE HAS, would you be offended?

sheesh. We can give CW suggestions how to more effectively change style if that will reach more people, but lets not throw the baby out w/ the bath water.

Obama won on 100% pure style. Let’s focus on the substance, we can make continuous improvements on style.

    • Common_Cents

I get the title being edited, but why was that the only thing left for this diary?

The videos are very informative for whoever wants to get more involved in their local party. But they were deleted.

I am just getting started in my local area because of CW posts, as others have before me.

Let’s focus on substance folks, we can always tweak the style.

Empty style is what got obama elected in the first place, we can beat him with lots of subtance!

Consider at least putting the videos back in the diary and changing the title.

This stuff is too important to get caught up in petty circular firing squads.

Who is our enemy? It’s obama. Let’s pull on the same end of the rope in the same direction.

  • Scope

are you willing and pushing every human body, that you can get, to come into the Republican party? Do you have any so called litmus tests at all for who you recruit? How do you determine that someone you are recruting is really someone that will vote for Republicans? Please answer that question.

    • http://www.theprecinctproject.wordpress.com ColdWarrior

I frankly don’t know what all the fuss is about. Not sure why I was chastised for “self aggrandizing” and a need for humility — I’m anonymous. I’ve tried to be polite and employ the good manners my parents instilled in me. I try to follow the Redstate rule of “be respectful.” I thought Common_Cents’s first comment made the same points I might have.

But I do take all of the constructive criticisms to heart and thank you for them. I will sincerely try to improve my manners.

Now, as for Scope’s question, the short answer is that of course I do not want to recruit just anybody into the PC ranks. On the other hand, the single most important political tool we have for changing the outcome of the elections and changing the behavior of the incumbents is the Republican Party, and it’s just sitting there for the taking by conservatives.

So, I have tried to go where conservatives gather, both in what Ron Robinson calls the “meat space,” and virtually, at places like Redstate, PatriotActionNetwork, SarahPAC, TeaPartyNation, etc., and have tried to explain The Neighborhood Precinct Committeeman Strategy.

Here in AZ, in Maricopa County, the Libertarian’s Campaign for Liberty project, which is essentially the Strategy, has been a failure. But, I’m told, in other states, they have had more success. The bottom line is this: if we conservative Republicans do not fill up all the vacant PC positions in the Party, somebody else might. Indeed, in a state like AZ, where we elect PCs, there is absolutely nothing that could prevent Democrats from re-registering as Republicans and running unopposed for the 50% or so of the Republican Parrty PC slots in the state that, currently, are vacant. The saving grace is that the Republicans in each precinct actually elect their PCs. And, thankfully, the Dem Party here is in much worse shape than the Republican Party.

I’ve said many times here that becoming a PC is not for everyone. Indeed, there may come a time when my professional workload will prevent me from being involved in Party politics. But until that happens, I carve out on my calendar every month three meetings. First, my local legislative district committee meeting, where 134 or so PCs, out of an allotment of 277, meet to develop strategies to help GOTV for our Republican candidates. Next is my county committee meeting, where we do the same at the county level. Third, my Pachyderm Coalition meeting, our “conservative PC caucus” for my district where the conservative PCs meet to develop strategies to further our conservative goals within our legislative district. Would I rather not go to these meetings. Yes. Why am I involved in this? For the same reasons all of us are doing what we do: to help preserve our liberties. And our liberties are in serious peril.

I have not have time to read all the comments above, but in skimming them I did see that some asked why the Strategy has not been presented at CPAC, etc. Well, it has been presented by me and others at one of the RightOnline conferences (hat tip to Ron Robinson for making that happen) and American Majority Action has embraced the Strategy with their Precinct Project web site.

We all have only so much time. My message is simply this. If you, a conservative Republican, can spare the time, please consider seeking out your local Republican Party committee meeting and attending it. Every state has a different system. In some states the system is really, really corrupt. And you might not have a snowball’s chance in hell of changing things.

On the other hand, don’t we conservatives need to unite and organize? And what better place to do so than locally. Inside our chosen political party.

I’ve seen what happens when conservatives do this.

      It’s good.

      And fun.

And, just for fun, you might want to take the time to review this:

      http://www.redstate.com/laborunionreport/2011/08/04/uh-oh-the-progressives-have-figured-out-how-tea-parties-took-over-the-gop/

      I hope this helps.

      Thank you,

        you need to continue thinking.

Posting a diary that complains within the title of the diary that it won’t be promoted is what a psychologist would refer to as being “passive aggressive”.

Instead of some snipe at RS with a mention of masturbation, why not a title like “Be a foot soldier against Obama” or something like that.

You have a great message, but whatever ill will is building up between you and RS serves nobody.

  • nocontest

qualified candidates and a clear positive message that inspires.
Support is always easy when you believe in a candidate but we don’t have any just like last time. Not negative this is what happens when you can’t find qualified candidates. Obama will win in a landslide because republicans are talking about fluke, Rush, and Rick
