Rasmussen Reports National Presidential Daily Tracking Poll from Thursday, Sept. 13, 2007
REPUBLICANS
28% - Fred Thompson
19% - Rudy Giuliani
13% - John McCain
10% - Mitt Romney
05% - Mike Huckabee
Fred Thompson's polls this week are building off the bounce from his announcement last week. This is the lowest level of support that Rudy has ever polled.
So much for Huckabee's "surge" in support. He slips from 6% to 5%.
DEFEATO-CRATS
40% - Comrade Clinton
21% - B. Hussein Obama
18% - John "Trial Lawyer" Edwards
03% - Bill Richardson
Hill's got this sewn up. Anyone who comes out and attacks her too strongly will probably permanently imperil their status in the Defeatocrat Party - much like John McCain has in the Republican Party.

Romney doesn't come close to carrying his home state. Even Mondale carried Minnesota. I suppose that means that Romney may not be VP material as well, assuming VPs are selected to win states.

I think Romney would make a great Treasury Secretary in the Thompson Administration. And I think that he'd make a great Senator from Utah or Michigan if the opportunity presented itself.
Carrying states mattered when the parties were sectional, but they aren't anymore. People vote based on issues and values, not parties.

Tracking polls I believe are meant to measure change, not the actual daily state of the race. By getting worked up about every day's results, you grossly overstate the importance of the poll.

Fred holding strong at 28, Giuliani, Romney, and Huckabee losing support, McCain ticks up a point.
There, that is the daily change.
I am not overstating the import. Just throwing it out there.

I do think it is a fair point to examine the out-of-the-gate bounce Fred is getting. So, not everyday, but today is about right.
Hey good news for Fred is good news for me, but posting a tracking poll every day he's ahead seems to run afoul of my diary's advice, suggesting that these diaries would hurt Fred more than help him.
I mean, imagine if we'd had a posting of this tracking poll every single day Giuliani were ahead?

You must forgive me if I was less impressed by your diary than others might have been. Still, all I did was publish the results of the poll. I might publish them when they change.
It would be interesting to see going forward every couple of weeks to see if we have a trend heading into the end of the year.
Keep a diary of each candidate's big events over the week, then every weekend publish a chart showing the last week's poll movement, and possible explanations for it.

Fred polls 3 points better than Rudy. Which suggests that Fred may be more of an asset to Norm Coleman than Rudy would be in his senate re-election race.
