McCain Looks Foolish Accusing Romney of Supporting "Timetables"
Here's the Proof

McCain tried to play a dirty trick on Mitt Romney by accusing him of using the “buzz word” of “timetables” in reference to Iraq. However, in this Republican debate, McCain looks like he may have screwed himself. It what is the hottest exchange among Republicans yet, tonight truly shows the race has come between these two men. Romney and McCain were placed next to one another in obvious hopes that they would go at it and so far they have. McCain has worn smart aleck grins the whole time while Romney has kept his facials more composed. Here is the clip of the “timetables” quote that McCain has used to accuse Romney:
Though the frontrunner, McCain knows he is disliked by much of the core conservative base. The liberal media may love him but when it comes to Republican voters who trust their conservative media sources, he faces a tough crowd. McCain knows Romney could easily take the lead on Super Tuesday so he is pulling out all the stops. Unfortunately for him, if they are based on out-of-context quotes that Romney can defend with his record and solid proof, he may looking quite foolish.

McCain just showed that he's a little too big for his own britches.
McCain simply appeared nasty by continuing to make the charge in the face of clear evidence that Romney, in the same interview on which McCain relies, actually said he would veto legislation calling for a specific withdrawal date. And McCain compounded this with his continual smirks and repeated refrain of "timetables."
This kind of performance makes me think that McCain might be rather less successful in a general election than current polls suggest. Romney seemed much more substantive and polished. He is far from problem-free, but he may be the party's best bet.
Romney should have followed that up with an explanation of why he thought the Prescription Drug bill was such a great idea, especially since he criticized McCain for voting against it.
... this again? If this line of attack didn't work the first, second, or third time you tried it, why would you think it would work now?
McCain criticized Romney, correctly, for pushing for secret timetable for withdrawing troops. Romney did so when he claimed, as your own video clip shows, that President Bush and the Iraqi government already had such timetables, and that he supported them. In fact, Bush has always rejected the notion that there is a timetable for withdrawal. Now maybe Romney wasn't exactly being dishonest. Maybe he was just being muddle-headed or playing loose with the facts, but in any case he was wrong.

Hang all traitors and secessionists! Hang them high!

If the US and Iraq were not in discussion of when to withdraw troops then I am a (pick your own adjective)... I don't want to hear anymore about this crap! Either Romney is a fool (picked a timetable and specified it publicly) or he agreed to discuss a secret plan of withdrawal. You can not pick and choose folks. This should have to bearing in the discussion of president.

I just wish Romney would have turned to him and asked if he thought the President should have had no plans and no discussion with Iraq.
