Super Bowl Sunday Open Thread

Football, The Primaries, or Whatever.

Talk about the McCain-Romney race here, or the Super Bowl, or whatever. I'll offer my own kickoffs. First, the latest poll from California:

Arizona Sen. John McCain lengthened his lead in the state Republican primary, grabbing a 32 to 24 percent edge among likely voters over former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney. Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee was at 13 percent and Texas Rep. Ron Paul at 10 percent.

But the Democratic numbers are the shocker. Clinton, a longtime California favorite, saw her once-commanding lead slip to two percentage points, 36 to 34 percent, in the new survey. ...But with 18 percent of Democratic voters still undecided just days before Tuesday's primary, the election is still up for grabs, said Mark DiCamillo, the poll's director.

My Super Bowl pick? I say my Giants keep it surprisingly close for the first half, in part by exploiting New England's run defense, but the Pats put them away with a flurry of passing TDs in the third quarter.

The New England Patriots are cheaters. Not only have they been penalized this season for taping the other teams' sideline, there are now reports that the Patriots taped the Rams final walk-through prior to Super Bowl XXXVI.

Cheaters!

Other Polls by tzack18

Other polls show Romney leading or tied in CA. Zogby has him leading by 3pts and Scott Rasmueson (sorry about the spelling on that) has them tied in CA.
The conservative movement is finally starting to rally to Romney as the only way to stop McCain. With Rush, Hannity, Levin, and Laura all on board there is a late surge for Romney. IMO people are waking up a facing the McCain disater and realizing it's time to stop him.
As for the game, I expect the Giants to keep it interesting but at some point will find themselves behind and Eli will melt down to produce the blow out.

Rail on McCain as your own thread. Mine was about football.

How is scouting out what your opponent does in practice, cheating? To me it seems to be common sense to try to find out what and how your opponent is doing. What's their strengths and weaknesses. I recall seeing movies about football where they're showing clips shot at the opposing teams workout. Is that illegal? I can understand that stealing the other team's playbook is a no-no but watching them practice? Someone please explain.

Yes by simpson316

explicitly illegal

my heart hopes against hope that the Giants pull it off and keep that team as the leader in the discussion of the greatest of all time. My head says otherwise, however as Chris Berman likes to say,

that's why they play the game

On the blogging front, I invite everyone again to check out my piece about the mother of all shady land deals from the corrupt politicians to top all corrupt politicians, VERNON JONES!!

Here's some good news for you guys. Mitt is leading or tied in three different CA polls. There's a three point lead in Zogby, a tie from Rasmussen and a one point lead from American Research Group. I see problems with all three of these polls, but all the same I know if it were my guy, I'd be happy to see this in the largest state in the nation.

My bet is still on McCain winning CA but I thought I'd share a little good news with you guys.

John S. McCain III

ahead in CA by something like 12 points.

Well, yes by GreatDarkSpot

There are several other polls that show McCain up but I was just being kind to the Romney guys buy highlighting some that had their guy up. McCain leads in the RCP average which is why I think he'll win the state.

Go Patriots

Mr Manning looks like Keebler Elf! Its Patriots year 19-0

Pats put it away with 2 Brady TD passes in the 4th.
38-21.

Theory by Jaguilar

Will the Super Bowl relate to the '08 election? I've been thinking...

...you have the Patriots as the "inevitable" victors (think Democrats)...

...and you have the Giants as the destined losers with a laughable leader (think Republicans and either George Bush or the Republican nominee).

Here's my theory:

If the Patriots win, the Dems get the White House.

If the Giants win, the Republicans keep the White House.

Judging from the point spread at the end, we can tell who'll win seats in Congress (i.e., if the Patriots win 35-7, we can say goodbye to a bunch of seats in Congress).

I'm going to write this down somewhere and pull it up again after November 4th and see if it came true.

Am I crazy?

Even without my theory, I'd still be rooting for the Giants. The Colts must be avenged somehow.

If there is one more reason we need Mitt to win in California, it's this. McCain is not what he claims to be. This supposed straight shooter has a crooked past. I find it funny that many fellow Republicans believe McCain is the most electable when he has a vicious temper and a shady past, particularly his role in the Keating Five. See McCain's hypocrisy below or follow the following link:

But I am encouraged by the GreatDarkSpots polls he mentions. Three polls that show it even or close in CA is encouraging.

I disagree with Dan's prediction. As a Cowboy fan I can't stand the thought of Randy Moss, that nemeses, winning this Super Bowl. Giants by 4.

Great picture!

With All Due Respect, My Friends by Donna Marie Oswald

HELLO TO ALL THE BINKS & BUNNIES who post here:

After reading this board for days. Some hack job against McCain. John is an honorable man.

As a supporter of John McCain since my Father pointed him out to me when I was a teenager, I love the man.
Allways!

Seems to me that some of you think that your blood runs blue?

I am here to tell you that reality is harsh and that we are all human, well most of us are human. Most suffer from the human condition of RED Blood.

The RED Blood that (I may add) has been shed for your candy coated behinds. Support our troops! Support John McCain!

In your efforts to sound conservative you sound like a bunch of commies!

I hate to make a mockery of your little play ground but some of the negative posts are bombastic!

I read the terms of service. It appears that many of you have taken liberties with your feeble attempts to trash John McCain. Not only are your words smarmy but your intentions are disingenuous. See commies!

If you would like me to LOB a few verbal grenades at Mitt, then do tell? I would rather find solutions to America's problems then find some who post here akin to insect larva.

Mitt Romney seems rather oily. Truth be told he looks and sounds like TRICKY DICK! Look at a picture of Mitten Millhouse Romney.

Some of the posts indicate to me that you don't deserve the dirt that John McCain walks on.

John McCain is a Conservative and so am I.

What rock did some off you crawl out from under? Slimy, slippery, scaled crack dwellers? YUCK!

I am Catholic, married to a WASP for 30 years. Yes my husband is fully aware of my passions concerning John McCain.

Mitten Romney is trying to buy the White House and that should alarm a normal person. Some are showing their fangs.

To bad that someone wasted money and time on that crock of mookie, negative video at the top of this piece. That is exactly what it is a "piece". Gnashing teeth!

This is my WORLD welcome to it! Keep your creepy little tentacles and appendages in side your cages! Rabies shots will be administered to those of you who have dropped your jaws and are frothing at the mouth!

Giddy up a ding-dong Annesthesia, Tom Petty is playing your song SWEET HEART!

Unfortunately, he has become angry, temperamental, and more liberal. He used to be a solid conservative and a hero. Today, he is only a hero of the past. Serving in the Congress for long periods of time seems to change people... They all tend to morph into the same ideology.

Actually, not everyone here is trashing McCain. He's got supporters here; we're just generally not into trashing his Republican opponents. We've got plenty of reasons to vote FOR McCain--we're not voting against Romney.

Welcome to RS--be nice, we need more McCainiacs around here. :)

John McCain

I have wanted to make for a while, namely that there is a divide between the kinds of people who support McCain and those who don't. These two groups just don't understand each other and this has led to a lot of animosity. From what I see here, it isn't about issues, but about attitude.

Patrick ruffini had a really interesting post yesterday (I think) in which he identifies a demographic which has supported mcCain strongly in the primaries and is key to his wins: "belligerent older men" (and the women who love them).

ruffini describes this group: "Older belligerent men are not afraid of confrontation, either personally or politically. I’ve heard more than one guy mention McCain’s volcanic temper as a positive. They equate this with toughness against our enemies."

Exactly. When you say, as many here keep saying, that McCain has a bad temper and a short fuse, I respond: Yes. That's what I LIKE about him. That's why I'm vOTING for him.

That's why I want him for President. Because he's cranky and angry and doesn't mind showing it. Because he loses his temper and sneers and goes for the jugular. Because he's a good hater.

I want our enemies to be p*ssing their pants over McCain having his finger on the button.

I'm not a belligerent older man but I love mcCain, always have! And it's exctly his volatility that I love. so when you point out that he swears in the Senate or loses his temper, I'm not going to head for the fainting couch with you. So you're kind of wasting your time.

want to recant that at a later point if he is elected... A hot-tempered president is NOT my ideal...

There is a saying that the race is not always for the swift nor the battle for the strong. Somehow, I have believed all last week that the Giants had a shot (aqnd especially so after their last performace against the Pats) and said so to some of my friends and colleagues. If only I were a betting man...

Congrats to Tom Coughlin, Eli Manning and the entire Giants team. They truly deserved this win.

And now back to my more reasonable, sportsmanlike self.

John McCain

have played exceptional in the last 4 games! Seems that they jelled in the last half of the season. Glad that they stopped the Patriots from their perfect season. I don't expect this to continue into the next season however... :^)

Formally known as Deagle... "Golf is a way of life..."

Say it again. Eli Manning is the Super Bowl MVP. Once again ... Eli Manning is the Super Bowl MVP. Eli Manning - not the good Manning mind you, but the one with the 73.9 passer rating and the librarian's personality - is the Super Bowl MVP. Just so we're clear about this ... Eli Manning ... whom Tiki Barber famously mocked for weak leadership, who has been trashed and insulted since he joined the Giants, is now the Super Bowl MVP. And he earned it too, having just defeated a guy who threw 50 touchdowns in the regular season with a 117 passer rating.

I hate to say that I feel sorry for Massachusetts, but I do. First they lose the Super Bowl, and two days later their home town hero is going to get run over on Super Tuesday. Still, I guess I can't feel too sorry for them given that they just won another World Series. And the Celtics are great this year too.

Seriously, who would have thought Eli Man
