The Audacity of Barack Obama

By Erick Posted in | | | Comments (50) / Email this page » / Leave a comment »

I cannot put it better than Juan Williams put it on Fox News yesterday, but I will reiterate it -- the more we learn about Barack Obama, the more we learn he is an inauthentic, disingenuous politician who does not offer hope and change, but more of the same.

In his past, Barack Obama used his connections to Jeremiah Williams and his church to solidify himself in the black community. Al Sharpton has questioned the genuineness of Obama's commitment to the black community, but Obama has been able to hide behind his mentor, Jeremiah Wright, whose commitment is not questioned.

For twenty years Obama has attended a church whose preacher has focused on the topic of black nationalism. Jesus was persecuted by the white man, Rev. Wright claims, just as the white man even no persecutes the black man. Obama has relied on those ties to help him overcome questions of authenticity and commitment to his community.

Unfortunately for Obama, his ties to his church are no longer convenient. He has tried to disown the rhetoric of his church without disowning his pastor. The church itself and the United Church of Christ (not to be confused with the Church of Christ, an actual Christian denomination) have struck back against what they label a 'character assassination.'

And now comes this news that Obama was in the attendance one Sunday morning when Rev. Wright

tore into America, referring to the "United States of White America" and lacing his sermon with expletives as Obama listened.

Obama stayed silent. In fact, Barack Obama, as recently as this weekend, claimed he was shocked by Rev. Wright's objectionable statements. Facts are problematic for Senator Obama these days.

For now though, let's ignore the fact that Obama was in attendance during at least one of these hate filled, anti-American sermons and never objected. Let's instead consider this.

Obama has been a congregant at this church for 20 years. In every church I have ever attended, in small groups of friends from church, the topic of the church inevitably come up. Statements of the preacher inevitably come up. Sermons come up. Church activism and evangelism comes up.

It defies credibility for Obama to claim no knowledge of his own preacher's statements from his own church's pulpit over a span of twenty years. Either Obama goes to church for show and has no relations within the church, in which case he is a fraud, or he does have relations in the church and does pay attention, in which case he's just a liar.

Either way, the change he's offering no longer looks like it amounts to much.

UPDATE by Leon: Here is a smattering of Jeremiah Wright's sermons - if you wall want to spend some time with YouTube this afternoon, you will get the clear picture that there is no way whatsoever that Barack Obama did not know the sorts of things his pastor apparently says on a regular basis. Be warned, some of this material might not be stuff you want to listen to if you're at work:

I especially like the part about the government "inventing" HIV as a means of eradicating black people. Yeesh.

to the left...this unfortunately for him is not where this country is and never will be.

Freedom of Religion not Freedom from Religion

She can tell all the white voters to read or listen to Rev Wright. If they find his remarks distasteful or offensive, then Obama says they are racists. That's not going to fly very well among the white voters Obama is counting on IMHO.

I heard Novak reiterating this morning how Hillary has been trying to make Obama "the black candidate" and that it now appears to finally be working. I've thought for a while that the dream scenario for the GOP is Hillary winning the nomination and at the same time alienating the black voters the Democrats always take for granted. If it's Hillary-McCain and they sit this one out in any significant numbers, Hillary's chances of beating McCain are zero.

...with one other additional goal, nailing the hammer and sickle onto the American Flag.

is Obama's Gary Hart moment.

Let these poor journalists that hound Brittany, Kristen, and all the others do their dirty work. Request the senator's schedule, review sermon tapes and hold his feet to the fire.

Remember, it was FOI act that got Obama his senate seat in the first place. Let it be the karma that bites him in his lying a**.

Obama is a liar. We know this. However, he still has plenty of time to recover before Nov. We can not let him.

I say let them look and then when it is found, it will sink him once and for all.

him talking about it. But there is no way he escapes the 20 year evidence. He is toast in November and probably before based on what's already out there.

More and more blacks are starting to denounce TUCC and Obaba's lies on Talk Radio. I think many blacks feel smeared by Obama.

He stands to set his people back 20+ years if he is allowed to continue.
White America by and large does not want a return to segregation. In any aspect of our lives. But I have got to tell you that if Jeremiah's bilge is standard black church fare, many will rethink that. Why in the world would we want our children around such filth?
I tend to agree with you that it isn't common and I pray to God it isn't. Our country has spilt enough blood over race relations and we need to be able to fully heal. That will never happen if Jeremiah and his ilk ever become "mainstream".

not risk voting for a man that sat there for 20 years.

Senator Obama's and the SS calendar for the month of July and then compare them to Jeremiah's sermon calendar. That wouldn't take much.

At any rate, this just adds more to the growing supply of hate speech that man has been spewing for the last 20 years while BHO and Michelle have been raising their hands and nodding on agreement.

January through May. Barring earthquakes and Biblical floods it's likely that Obama managed to get home on weekends.
Draw your own conclusions but coming up next, "Obama admits to being irreligious, never attended church".

"a man's admiration for absolute government is proportinate to the contempt he feels for those around him". Tocqueville

seven months a year plus weekends when Senate is in session.
Change that to "Obama admits to being an agnostic".

"a man's admiration for absolute government is proportinate to the contempt he feels for those around him". Tocqueville

highway. No doubt BHO washome every weekend to see his family. You know, the ones he drug to that vicious church every Sunday.

Juan Williams by ggross56

As I said here, Juan Williams is an honorable man. Despite that, I'm betting that the Left will criticize him for not defending Obama.

An interesting Rasmussen Poll:

http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/people2/just_8_h...

Seventy-three percent (73%) of voters say that Wright’s comments are racially divisive. That opinion is held by 77% of White voters and 58% of African-American voters. In addressing the issue, Obama warned against injecting race into the campaign .

Most voters, 56%, said Wright’s comments made them less likely to vote for Obama. That figure includes 44% of Democrats. Just 11% of voters say they are more likely to vote for Obama because of Wright’s comments.

I wish more commentators would talk about how being a member of this church was important politically to Obama. This was a key to his ever being involved in Chicago politics. The big issue here should be hypocracy.

By the by, I'd love to see a new poll about which candidate is most likely to bring the country together. That has been Obama's calling card and this should hit him hard there.

I have yet to see any black person create bad legislation that is abusive, demoralizing, or restrictive to any AMERICAN in the United States. The black church and the sermons in the black church represents our beloved freedom of speech and freedom of religion. A many good things come from our struggles, it defines our character, our strength and determination to fight for what is truly good for America. Furthermore, Obama was born from from the womb of a white woman. How can he disgrace himself and his mother? How many bad laws have been created in the name of Jesus, or for God and country? In America, it's not uncommon for us to sleep with a bible in one hand, and a gun in the other. Our laws, life, and work is full of contradictions - but we live and learn - and for some, fight twice as hard to survive in a cruel place. For Michelle to say that she is proud to be an American for the first time, reflects all the hardship that minorities have endured for much too long. The genocide of Native Americans, slavery of blacks, racial profiling, discriminations - you name it, we've survived all the madness from the previous government's politics.

with making things better in the future.

I'm quite tired of the Victim card.

whining? by Tina

why you all whining about the economy?

The other one is that Michelle Obama and Jeremiah Wright just don't care too much for white people. You know. More focussed on the color of their skin, rather than the content of their character.

Tragic, but what can you do?

Moe

PS: Just so you know: we don't approve of people here defending outright racists such as Rev. Wright (I don't think that Ms. Obama quite qualifies) - and this isn't public property, which means that said disapproval has teeth. So be careful not to do that, 'kay?

The Honorable Elijah Muhammad teaches us that as it was divine will in the case of the destruction of the slave empires of the ancient and modern past, America's judgement and destruction will also be brought about by divine will and divine power.

-Malcolm X

And we all know how much Malcolm X loved America. When asked about the shooting of JFK he said it was "Chickens coming home to roost." Something a good Democrat like yourself should think about before supporting BHO.

And what did your civilized forefather's God say on the Mayflower, when all the criminals were being loaded up and shipped to God's country? Or when you all bootlegged? Or molested little children in the name of Jesus? Or slaughtered a whole nation of defenseless people for greed/gold and property? When you all abducted, and chained and enslaved people from Africa? If we're all guilty by association - then we're all going to burn and go to hell. Where there is wheat - there is tare. We have an unlimited amount of "tare" in the United States.

Salvation. Because we ARE all sinners. If someone is going to carry hate with them for the past sins of their fathers, they need to re-examine their walk. Hate is easy to carry and it is a choice. That is not the message here. If one "choses" to follow someone who teaches Hate of everyone and everything that is not Black, I would ask- What did Christ die for? or maybe more importantly Who did he suffer and die for? Answer-ALL Mankind-Jew and Gentile--NOT a certain Race.

And if so, can you honestly say that your living relatives have clean hands with regards to modern atrocities of the last 40 years? I'm thinking of Cambodia in particular but the list doesn't end there...

Dear Tina,

I have never been to the slave market where is it? If I ever came across a slave market not only would I get up and leave but I would be calling the police on my way out to arrest the people involved. I certainly would not sit there and let it operate for 20 years.

You say when "you all" abducted and chained people -- let's see I wonder how many 160 year olds are on this blog. I am much younger than 160. None of my ancestors ever owned slaves or traded in slaves. Now the large majority of Americans (unlike me) can trace their ancestry back to post Civil War immigration. Now maybe if you understood a little more of the history of the United States you would understand that most of the “you all” in the United States have absolutely no connection to the slave history of the United States and are no more guilty by association than you, I am assuming you must be black, are for the death white female of the NC student body president at the hands of two black men. Or are you guilty by association of the Christian Newsome torture rapes and murders?

in this world until you get over your hatred of the past. You can not continue to blame the society of hundreds of years ago for your problems. Either get on with today's society or continue to grieve and blame others (ancestors and whites of course). You can either join the real world (today) or continue your condemnation of the past which seems to be a major part of your future. If you continue to do that, you also diminish your future and the outcome will be your decision.

Formally known as Deagle... "Golf is a way of life..."

Dear Tina,

In your determination to fight for what is truly good for America you must be making a determination of what you believe is good for America.

So please answer this for me --

How is it good for America that 50% of black teenage girls have an STD?

How is it good for America that at least 2/3rds of black children are born to single mothers and raised in single mother households?

How is it good for America that within the black community those who work hard to obtain a good education and speak proper English are criticized for acting white?

Maybe the next time I come across an unwed pregnant white teenager I should chastised her for acting black! Would that be good for America?

I have to say by RichardPort

This story is very "sound bitey". I expected the media to jump on the first negative story they could exploit about Obama, but this is getting a bit too silly. He may not be my choice, but I hardly see the guilty by association angle here. When GWB went to Bob Jones, we forgave him. And if we were to dissect everyone of his church's statements in the past 10 years, we might be able to make up a horrible story there too.

You know how the Left feels about the fact that they can't credibly call a racist somebody who can be involved in this kind of exchange:

Q How'd you slip out of Crawford?

THE PRESIDENT: How'd I get out of crawford, was the question. The agents, the Secret Service -- well, first of all I didn't slip out, because I had to tell my family -- that would be my wife and daughters -- that I would not be there for Thanksgiving today. My mother and dad came over from College Station, thinking they would see me, they did not know I was not going to be there. So they knew, Laura knew and the girls knew.

I assured them that I wouldn't be going if it wasn't well thought out and well planned. They understood, I think the girls thought it was a great thing to do, to go see the -- go thank our troops. A lot of the kinds are their age, 22 years old and younger. And laura was pleased that I had decided to go. I comforted her about the -- you know, I assured her that I wouldn't be doing this if I wasn't confident we could get in and out of there safely -- that was very important.

They pulled up kind of a plain-looking vehicle with tinted windows and I slipped on a baseball cap and pulled her down, as did Condi. We looked like a normal couple. (Laughter.)

Q On your way to the Walmart. (Laughter.)

THE PRESIDENT: To buy some Berkeley Power worms. (Laughter.)
[Bolding mine]

You see, that sort of thing is what we like to call "code words." When a former governor of Texas says that sort of thing, casually, what he's really saying is "I'm actually thrilled to hear that the racists won't be voting for me."

Moe

If any leader is to understand the dynamics of Islamic fundamentalism then they must recognize that it comes from people going along with whatever the preacher says, just as so many American churchgoers do. People on both sides can't be bothered to read scripture for themselves; indeed, some of those madrassas teach their students to recite the Qur'an but not how to read it.
