*Action Alert for Saturday* - Let's Make "Earth Hour" A "Festival of Lights"

Psst. Have you heard about Earth Hour? No? Good, actually.

Where this started, nobody knows - maybe in Australia. But every once in awhile, there's an "Earth Hour" where everyone is supposed to make a grand green gesture by turning off everything electric (including lights) for an hour and sitting silently in the dark.

By this action, you accomplish.... well, exactly what you accomplish isn't clear, but these are lefties so don't expect rational cause-and-effect thinking.

These things have been spreading, and the last one a few months ago got a foothold in the US, such as in (figures) San Francisco.

Well, there's another one coming up this Saturday night at 8pm your local time, and this one appears to be getting national attention.

As our Australian confrère Tim Blair has noted, it's time to push back.

While all the lefty sheeple are turning off their lights and sitting in the dark, turn ALL your lights on. Fiat lux! Light up your abode like it's a Roman candle.

Perhaps the Powers That Be here could set up a special image-upload area, where we can all upload pictures of our super-illuminated houses. Those should be fun to look at, and perhaps we could even give a prize to the biggest wattage-consumer.

Remember, this Saturday, 29 March, at 8pm (to 9pm) local time.

Fiat lux! Et erat lux.

Stupid by Brandozilla

Wasting energy is moronic, we should all be trying to conserve despite any differences in regards to global warming exist.

Wasting energy out of spite is childish and stupid.

spun power by dmajors

it would be wasted no matter what.
The greens are wrong if they think their plan will put one less gram of carbon into the atmosphere. You don't run a power grid with your heart.

Do it with LED bulbs by jonlester

that look much better and last 10 times longer than those awful fluorescent bulbs.

Not that it'll make much difference over the course of a month, but...heck, it's your utility bill. Do whatever you please.

While you're at it, though, go outside and watch the rotor disc spinning on your meter. It's strangely hypnotic.

As for me, it's unlikely I'll alter my consumption in any way. Suffice it to say, I'll be watching basketball.

but they are all curly fluorescents
I am so confuzled

The "earth hour" guys came around with a flier to my coffee shop the other day. Needless to say, I will not be turning out all the lights in my shop when I am full of students working on their end-of-year projects (or whatever they call them) and studying for finals. I will, however, instruct my staff to hold their breath for an hour so as not to emit CO2.
