Obama's Marxist Underpinnings. Is it any wonder he said what he said?
A slip of the tongue with enough tongue to hang himself.

I've long argued that Barack Obama is the weaker of the two Democratic candidates. I think, if the press gives him enough rope, he'll hang himself if he hasn't choked on his foot first. His latest comment is the latest greatest indicator of my theory panning out.
This morning I did a blogginghead.tv conversation with Jane Hamsher. We talked about this and I was willing to concede that Obama did, as he said, choose his words poorly -- he misspoke. But I maintained in our conversation as I do now that this misspeaking was actually an unguarded moment when Obama spoke what he actually believes.
I do agree that when times are hard, people take comfort in their faith. It's a natural thing for Christians to do. When troubles plague me or my family, I see refuge in the Lord. And I could give Obama a pass if that's what he meant, but I think he was not saying that. In fact, I think he was revealing his contempt for middle America.
Read on . . .
Obama said
And it's not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.
If it was just that they fall back on faith when times are tough, why not said "faith" instead of "religion". And why wrap up in that "guns" and "anti-immigrant sentiment" and "anti-trade sentiment"? And why "bitter"? Does Obama really think people are bitter?
It does not help that, in his first attempt at damage control his campaign staff sends out a clip from CNN where Jack Cafferty explains this all away by saying, in effect, these bitter hicks could become an American branch of Al Qaeda, what with their guns and God, etc.
When Obama then seeks to correct himself he says that "everybody knows its true." But, naturally, "if I worded things in a way that made people offended, I deeply regret that."
In this, he changes "religion" to "faith", but he keeps on about the people voting "about guns" and "about illegal immigrants" as if those things really shouldn't matter -- people, you know, they shouldn't get worked up about constitutional rights and people sneaking across the border illegally into this country and who Obama wants to have drivers licenses.
While Barack Obama talks on and on about that, consider who he surrounds himself with:
Michelle Obama thinks this is a mean spirited nation that she's only just decided to be proud of. Despite record low unemployment and the greatest acceleration out of poverty in the history of this nation, she's convinced that "it's getting worse" over her lifetime.
Then of course there is Reverend Wright, his spiritual adviser" who loathes what this country represents. He preaches a black liberation theology born of marxist roots.
There is also Frank Marshall Davis, Obama's self described childhood mentor. Davis was not only an open communist, but took Obama along to "socialist conferences" as Obama describes them.
And let's not forget Obama's friendship with Bill Ayers. David Axelroad, Obama's campaign strategist, says they are just "friendly," not really friends. But the London Times is reporting Ayers had a political function at his house for Obama and introduced Obama to local activists. He contributed to Obama's re-election campaign and they served together on a board. This is the man who tried to blow up the Capitol and Pentagon on his way toward his communist vision for America.
When Obama says people take comfort in their faith when times are tough, I don't really think he was thinking of Pslam 46, "God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble."
I think he was thinking of this.
“Religious suffering is at the same time an expression of real suffering and a protest against real suffering. Religion is the sigh of the oppressed creature, the sentiment of a heartless world, and the soul of a soulless condition. It is the opium of the people.”
That he'd fall on the philosophy of Karl Marx should come as no surprise. His wife, his preacher, and his friend Bill Ayers all already believe it.
And then of course there is his mother
Classmates of Dunham -- Wall, Blake, Hunt -- felt they were on the cusp of societal change, the distant early warning of the '60s struggles over civil rights, women's rights and war."If you were concerned about something going wrong in the world, Stanley would know about it first," said Chip Wall, who described her as "a fellow traveler. . . . We were liberals before we knew what liberals were."
Obama was not speaking of the Psalmist. He was speaking of Karl Marx. And is it any wonder? The people he was surrounded himself with and grew up around all drank the kool-aid long ago.

I work with a real lefty lib lady and she said two months ago that she didn't see how he was electable. I couldn't believe she said that, but she was right when many of us, including me, were all wrong. He is not the stronger candidate.
There's no "There" there!

Wyoming people deserve the truth!
Just another Bitter white-boy clinging to guns and God!
Fighting for conservatism one day at a time.
He'll get slaughtered in a general election. On the other hand, if Hillary pulls it out, I happen to think she would be stronger now than she ever was before. She goes from the Wicked Witch of the West to the scrappy underdog who clawed her way back from the brink of defeat.
If it is any relief, given the dynamics of the Democratic Party they probably would prefer to lose with Obama than to lose core constituencies in future elections. The irony is delicious.
in fact, their persecution narrative almost demands that if Obama is nominated, he must lose. It would do more harm to their self-image if he won.

It's still way to early too write his political obituary. Once he clenches the nomination, he and the entire MSM/Dem/Soros machine will launch a full publicity offensive with lots of $$$. The fact that Obama is still competitive against (if not usually running ahead of) McCain, despite the attacks from Comrade Hillary, is an ill omen for this fall.
I am skeptical that McCain or the GOP in general will have either the $ or the stratigic sense to overcome in November, especially if '06 was indicative.
I WANT to be wrong, and if the GOP sits back and assumes that they don't have to lift a finger to win, I won't be.
....the GOP and McCain aren't taking anything for granted.
“.....women and minorities hardest hit”
I really haven't seen anything to suggest that the GOP is muchmore withit then theywere in '06. While McCain is probably the best "anti-Bush" for the GOP that ran this year, I havn't really seen him take advantage the current Dem fight...and the fact that Obama can still raise more moneyin a divisive primary then McCain can with the nomination wrapped up doesn't look good. Combine that with the battle-proven ground game the Dems are developing, and it is hard to see anything but a win for the Dems.
Yes, his
...but McCain is in a strong position against either of them.

"I am a democrat."
Granted, I overlooked it as well, but now that it's been breathing down my neck for the last few weeks I expect it will stay around a while. I'm not sure they will all coalesce around him if he wins. Yes, the Dems need to lose the Clintons to again be a vigorous national party, but I don't think Obama revitalizes them. In his own way, he is a distorted reflection of the same things they are. And I expect them to continue to fight like the Hatfields and the McCoys regardless of which of them wins the superdelate fight.
Let them throw every penny they have to get him elected...all the money Soros has can't keep Barry from opening his mouth.
We want Barry to keep talking
" Got to love the Lord for making things like that."
Morally Compromised
Nonetheless, this has the earmarks of a fatal wound. At a minimum, Superdelegates no longer will peel off for Obama, and this has all but guaranteed the nomination won't be decided until the convention.
If Republicans are smart, they will remind voters of those freshmen Obama-supporting PA Democratic congresscritters who won in GOP-leaning districts in 2006. Sen. Casey, who counted on those bigoted, religious, gun-toting rubes to win election, also has supported Obama. His Republican opponent in 2012 will remind the voters if the party leaders fail to do so.
No one will assume anything about the presidential race, but let's watch Intrade for a few days. I imagine McCain stock is about to skyrocket.
Freedom of Religion not Freedom from Religion
I've been saying for a while that the Democrats have to choose between certain defeat in 2008 (by nominating Obama) or the possibly permanent loss of their most loyal voting bloc (by nominating anyone else).
MMmmmmmmm...popcorn....
OBAMA SAID. ITS THIS ONE:
"antipathy to people who aren't like them"
Obama was talking about why these keystone whites prefer hillary. He mentioned big government. But Hillary is for that too. He then talks about their bitterness to explain their
RACISM AGAINST HIM. HE IS NOT LIKE THEM!!!
Remember Georga Erick? Obama won the white male vote in Georgia. That was BEFORE they knew of Rev Wright.

about the inevitability of Obama losing in the general. I do think that he is weak--and as he is pressed, he shows his weakness more and more. But it is clear that the media is ready to give him a pass on most issues. I can also see McCain running a "gentlemanly" campaign where he does not pressure Obama enough to force the gaffs like the one addressed in this post.
If Hillary wins the nomination it will create great problems for the Dem party. The perception will be that she "stole" the nomination. The black constituency will be inclined to stay home or even defect from the party. The youth vote that Obama is courting will stay home (as usual). There would be protests and general Chaos.
I would rather see the Dems fracture and not just lose the Presidency in 2008.
would keep him covered at least through the general election. I'm still figuring him to win the election then crumple like Carter afterward. His first mistake will be pulling out of Iraq, and after that... Well, let's just say I won't be surprised if that mistake is the least of his in office blunders.

Erick, I do take issue with the way this was expressed:
I do agree that when times are hard, people take comfort in their faith. It's a natural thing for Christians to do. When troubles plague me or my family, I see refuge in the Lord.
Before I even say it, you know why. It is because you so naturally slip into "it's a natural thing for Christians to do."
I am certainly not Christian and can attest that when times are hard, it is a great comfort to reach out to He who made us. There is a grace to the liturgy and music which have evolved over 3,000 plus years; there is a humbling in giving one's self over to the God of Abraham, of Isaac, of Jacob, just as generations and generations before me have done.
Nor do I believe that it is only Christians and Jews who feel this way. I was called recently on emergency trip to another city as the EMT's were at my mother's apartment. The gas station attendant across road from my business, who is almost certainly Muslim, said, as I paid for the fuel: "I will pray for her." It was incredibly touching, and heartfelt.
I have heard Barrack Obama described as involved with the Daley Democratic machine. But that is an affront to Mayor Richard M. Daley, his family and late father, Richard J. Daley. From what I know of them, faith in a Higher Being, patriotism, love for this country, etc are a way of life.
The 'bitter' slip-up by Obama is just one more piece of evidence that the Illinois senator is cut from a different type of cloth than most Americans. I don't really disagree with you, Erick, but think that next time you might want to widen the context of such a well meant remark.
was a smokesceen. It was about why they aren't for him. He tells his Sna Fran friends that they are racists, and that's why they favor Hillary over him.

The notion that citizens in the Red States are stupid Neanderthals who have been bamboozled by the GOP into voting on moral issues against their better economic judgment, is central to modern liberalism. It's their attempt to explain why they keep losing elections.
Examples:
Thomas Frank's book "What's the Matter with Kansas?", practically the social Bible of the hard-core Left; and
That infamous 2004 screed by Jane Smiley (who has now written a new, furious defense of Obama's statement in HuffPo):
"Ignorance and bloodlust have a long tradition in the United States, especially in the red states....The error that progressives have consistently committed over the years is to underestimate the vitality of ignorance in America. Listen to what the red state citizens say about themselves, the songs they write, and the sermons they flock to. They know who they are--they are full of original sin and they have a taste for violence....when life grows difficult or fearsome, they (politicians, preachers, pundits) encourage you to cling to your ignorance with even more fervor."
-- Jane Smiley, 2004

[Now that last part has a familiar ring to it, doesn't it? There's that "clinging to religion" meme again.]
I've been reading what the left-wing blogs like FireDogLake have to say about Obama's statement. They are genuinely baffled that anyone could find fault with it: "What did he say that was wrong?"
Whats The Matter With Kansas (a gift) and I think it should be required reading for every Conservative. I don't think Mr Frank gets a single fact or conclusion right anywhere throughout the book.
A beautiful look into the dark labyrinth that is the liberal mind.
I haven't read it, but I've glanced through it. I remember on what little I picked up that he basically got everything a$$ backwards. It was like a Spanish speaker trying to interpret Portugese. The language might sound similar to the untrained ear, but in reality they are really quite different.
"I ain't never votin' fo another Democrat so long as I can draw breath! I'll vote for a dog first!" - Leola Thomas
Kansas has actually outperformed the nation as a whole when it comes to economic growth. Its unemployment rate is also lower. Liberal elites like Frank just can't stand traditional American culture - its actually OFFENSIVE to these people that voters out there actually vote for candidates that share their conservative traditional cultural values.
His second premise is that these dunces "vote against their own economic self-interest" - meaning, these idiots care too much about God and guns to vote themselves wonderful socialists programs like government run health-care and the fairness doctrine!

occurred in Johnson County, a heavily populated area of Kansas City, Kansas. Johnson County is anything but representative of the majority here.
Tim Schieferecke
Just after Christmas I was visiting the Johnson County Museum of History, which is a nice small museum. The gift shop was naturally full of earnest tomes, all rather pricey....except for the big pile of copies of "What's the matter with Kansas?" which weren't moving in spite of the big 'reduced' stickers on their covers.
(However I think most Johnson Countians would take exception to your suggestion that we are part of KCK! Part of the greater Kansas City metro, sure but KCK is the next county up, and a different world).
The media and the left-wing of the Democrat party are flabbergasted that this is even an issue. To them, what Obama said is just assumed. It's an American truth. Those knuckledragging hayseed backwater hicks in flyover country are the reason why we don't have socialist utopian bliss in this country. If they'd just shut-up and listen to the enlightened elites, DAMN IT!!!

I was one of the sheep who beleived Obama would be the stronger candidate. Fortunately, the left-wing propensity to drip heart-felt condescension cannot be stifled.
There is no doubt this man meant exactly what he said. Fortunately, the public realizes this is the real Obama and the sugar-coated, platitudinous bot is the fraud.
