Is John McCain too Old?

Every time there is an election in America the candidates try to talk about the negative aspects of their opponents. It is natural to do, I mean you do want people to choose you over them, so following that tradition Hillary Clinton, and Barrack Hussein Obama love to point out the negatives for the, assumed, Republican candidate John McCain. But instead of talking about how their healthcare plans differ or how the democrats want to raise taxes on everything that anyone buys, and how McCain wants to continue tax rebates so stimulate our economy, what do they love to focus on as a negative for John McCain? They love to focus on his age.

Now I am no senior staffer for any candidate, but I do not think this is a very strong negative to stand on. I mean yes McCain is older than any other president, if he is elected, but is that a bad thing? McCain has the benefit of seeing many different presidents, including some of the best in our history. He has seen FDR create a socialist nation, essentially, during the great depression because that is what had to be done, though I disagree with a lot of his actions, he saw Eisenhower work to establish America as an international superpower, he saw Kennedy and Johnson commit us to Vietnam, while blaming others, and he saw the consequences (first hand) of what happen when Nixon pulled us out without a victory, and he saw (the best of the best) Ronald Wilson Reagan defeat communism in Russia. Now it might just be me but I think that those are pretty good things to live through, and learn from.

Now does McCain's age really matter?

If Obama is having a hard time by Illinicon

attracting older citizens, I do not think having his 527's attacking McCain's age is a way to get them on his side. Good thing Soros does not get America.

Uhh, McCain would have been like 7 years old when Roosevelt died, which means he was born at the tail end of the Depression I'm not sure how he'd know all that much about these topics.

Other then that, good points.

old to run/win, but also he is too much of a wuss.

I guess the hope of the GOP this year has denounced the NCGOP ad put up the other day about Obama/Wright.

He better wise up pretty quickly, and decide to fight to win this thing.

If Obama comes through and keeps his caim to be fresh and new then negative campaigning from the GOP side will re-enfore his message.

Playing it this way he leaves the Dems stuck on their own in the mud pit.

It's not negative campaigning...it's tough by jdub19

campaigning. Asking, demanding clarity on issues of character and judgment is not in any way negative....at least not in my eyes

My take on McCain's age by Adam C

As long as he campaigns like he is now (vigorously), it's not a big problem.

If he has a "senior moment" then all these ads hitting his age pay off. One stumble or stroke or anything of the sort is all it'd take.

I think McCain's age helps him with Obama by JSobieski

but hurts him with Hillary.

Obama's inexperience is highlighted by the age difference. I personally think experience is overrated, but there are many in the mushy middle who will go to the bank on it.
