Yes Tim Morgan, we have abandoned the feckless squishes for a "direct to real conservative candidates" approach.

From the morning snail mail bag. Does he even have to ask?
You find me a slate of candidates who actually believe in smaller government and I'll find you a check.

I grow increasingly tired of "conservatives" quoting Reagan in this way as some excuse to leave the Republican party for some fringe nutjob group.
Reagan left one viable, nationwide party for another viable, nationwide party. He did not leave a center-right party for a fringe nutjob right-wing party.
So you can quote Reagan all you want, you'll still be a powerless fringie.

None of the Presidents that have come and gone since Reagan would be qualified to shine the man's shoes if he were still alive. I'm voting for McCain, but I can tell you this; there will be a huge push to change the traditional primary structure so a McCain will never happen to the Republican Party again. The Dems played there little version of Operation Chaos against us in the early open primaries and caucuses, and we're giving it back to them now. I used to be opposed to a national primary day, but I think it is the only way to end the madness of allowing Iowa and New Hampshire so much power to operation chaos us with left of center candidates. You'll see whose powerless when this happens.
Tim Schieferecke
You misunderstand. I didn't mean conservatives are "powerless fringies" I mean that people who leave the Repubican party because it's insufficiently conservative are powerless fringies.
And they are.
Nobody in the Constitution Party, or the Libertarian Party, or any other third party, or off on their own as a high-minded "independent" has any power over anything, they have never accomplished anything but to marginalize themselves and their views. They work contrary to their own stated causes.
What I am complaining about are people cite Reagan's "I didn't leave the Democratic Party" line to justify jumping into some fringe wack job party. It's stupid and intellectually dishonest. Reagan left a real party for another real party. He didn't leave it when it literally nominated a Rockerfeller Republican over a Reagan Republican, i.e. Ford, who picked Rockerfeller as his VP, over Reagan himself. He stayed, campaigned hard for Ford, and later took over.

at a time when it was weaker and less conservative than it is now.
Reagan believed in the power of persuasion and in building upon what was already there.
I agree that people who cite Reagan to go third party are missing key aspects of his move.
Exactly.

I'm with you. I think it is absolutely insane to leave the party and go recreate the wheel. It's all about reform! Reform! Oh, and did I mention reform! We have to exorcise the moral relativism and go along to get along spirit out of OUR party. Bi-partisanship for the sake of bi-partisanship is national suicide! We want leaders who lead with moral clarity and founding principles. Again, you are correct when you explain it the way you did. I agree with the post though that we shouldn't award bad behavior with our hard-earned $$$.
Tim Schieferecke
and I think this goes to what we should really be doing, as most have been saying: don't give to the GOP... give to a candidate. When we support the candidates we like, we do more to solve the problem.
But it does get frustrating... and one does have to wonder if/when the GOP will start to turn back rightward -- or if going 3rd party won't ultimately be the only option.

Your personal insult might be annoying if it weren't so hilarious.

You are quite rude, you rarely address a question or point raised by the other person, and you put words in the other persons mouth that were never said.
For example, I ask you: What principles are you moderate about?
You answer: You keep saying Reagan this Reagan that, blah blah blah.
I point out that the word Reagan was never raised by me, and you repeat.
You are not persuading anyone. I am not the first person to comment, don't bother interacting with RandomGuy.
Says the guy who's posted to me like 5 times in the past 10 minutes.
You're really a funny guy. Keep it up.

"The Dems played there little version of Operation Chaos against us in the early open primaries and caucuses, and we're giving it back to them now."
Yeah, they did that to try to defeat McCain. Kos and his "Dems for Mitt" movement didn't help McCain win. If we can't accept the difference between swing voters choosing someone who they will vote for in the Fall and people switching parties to pick the weakest link who they won't vote for in the Fall, we misunderstand "Operation Chaos."

A. I didn't say that.
B. Talk to someone who cares.

A. Didn't say what? You don't actually have to say, "I hereby insult your intelligence" in order to do so.
B. Your continued rudeness to people who disagree with you is starting to grate. Is there an ignore feature?

Socialism doesn't work. It looks nice on paper, but it's been tried and it's failed miserably every time (usually accompanied by widespread death and suffering).

Plus, the NY Republican Party called and I told them they are a lost cause and whatever I would have given them went to the NC Party for having the stones to put up a great ad. (I enjoy those calls - very cathartic.)

plus my time is more valuable than that. I used to send all these unwanted mailings back in the SASEs with my opinions in red marker (usually saved that for lefty mailings, though) but I don't actually want to cost the RNC money, I just don't want to fund them until they straighten up and fly right. And I'm no greenie but I hate to see trees dying for political and other junk mail, I really do. Of course the GOP and righty spams are also up to about 40 a day on all my email accounts. Who has time to read this stuff??
I used to look forward to the end of the "political season." There's no such thing anymore.

I feel everyone's pain, I do... really.
If you just can't write that check... or click the button for any of the national campaigns... PLEASE I beg of you, take that money, find someone local... a state rep race, town council anything find someone that backs your values whatever they are and SUPPORT THAT CANDIDATE!
Give that person your time as well as your money... get on the ground, do some retail politics, get your head out of Hard Ball and Youtube, and (dare I say it) RedState, and rediscover on the most basic level what it is we are fighting for.
They are the future of our party and of our nation.
running for state and local offices, I would make it my priority to start giving what I can to them. I believe vets of the conservative stripe need and deserve our support and I know some are running! Just a suggestion.

RS 3 should better support state and local activism.

I don't donate, throw away all snail mail solicitations unopened and delete email solicitations unread. I've written an angry letter to the RNC denouncing the party for betraying its constutuents: the people who give it its power.
I don't think they care.
Many times I think that the political and judicial processes and procedures have long since been taken out of the hands of voters by the people who print the money. We can scream and rant all we want, all to no avail; we have no control over what happens politically in this country.
