Willfully Ignorant Media Gives Obama Activist Pass to Ask McCain About the C-Word

My, my how the media is lazy.
From our good friend Gateway Pundit we find that a Democratic operative asked John McCain at a townhall meeting if he'd ever called his wife a c**t.
How did the media describe the guy? A Baptist minister.
Who is the guy?
Marty Parrish, Joe Biden's former office manager. He's also an Obama supporter.
Naturally though, the Des Moines Register was too dumb to realize who the guy actually was.
Parrish, a 45-year-old Baptist minister and technology business owner, said he attended the event specifically to confront McCain about the rumor.
McCain, however, handled the incident like a pro.
Here’s a transcript of today’s remarks:
PARRISH: This question goes to mental health and mental health care. Previously, I’ve been married to a woman that was verbally abusive to me. Is it true that you called your wife a (expletive)?
MCCAIN: Now, now. You don’t want to … Um, you know that’s the great thing about town hall meetings, sir, but we really don’t, there’s people here who don’t respect that kind of language. So I’ll move on to the next questioner in the back.
The audience gasped at the question and applauded at McCain’s handling of it.
Remember, the left will stop at nothing this year. Nothing.

Mind you, trying to start a fist fight with an elderly torture survivor who can't move his arms properly still sounds like fairly bad odds for a netrooter, but I guess that he was prepared to take his lumps for his team.
Alas for him, McCain didn't take the bait. Cowardly, rude, and incompetent: this Parrish guy made the trifecta.
The Fuzzy Puppy of the VRWC. I've been usurped!
but I think Senator McCain would have been well within his rights to beat this guy to within an inch of his life. To me that type of question isn't followed with a tisk tisk no matter who you are. The guy asking it is deserving of a beating.
"Cowards cut and run, Marines never do"
...question was probably set to be, "Why are you so angry?" but this tool was actually smarter than the NYT ditz and, seeing that McC handled it and didn't blow his stack, had the smarts to shut up and not look even dumber by asking that question to a perfectly calm person.
$1,000 says he wouldn't ask just any random Joe on the street the same question and get a cool calm reaction. Bet he wouldn't ask any of his parishioners that either.
"Cowards cut and run, Marines never do"
It wasn't that long ago that a minister would be loathe to use the word in private let alone at a public forum. Just chalk one more up to our culture being raped and wonder how we have fallen so badly.
Of course its a twofer for the press. They can make baptist ministers and McCain look bad.

I have to wonder if the guy is really a Baptist minister or is a "minister" in the sense that the Phelps guy is that protests at military funerals. Sure, he's a "Baptist minister" but when your church consists of you and your brainwashed kids, it kind of takes the depth out of the title...

Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton are similarly called ministers, for no apparent reason.

I'm not sure which is worse: the Baptist "minister" using that word or the press not knowing that he is a political operative

a great pleasure to watch.......Oh and Senator McCain these are the type of people who will be running the most disgusting ads against you evah....get used to it.

Well a Democrat man of God, which is much different. It's the sort of thing liberals can do while complaining about republicans sliming the opposition, no contradiction, no problem. You must assume that this doesn't fall within that selective range of "distractions" that so worry the policy wonks of the left, that we have momentarily come back to the vital issue of character.
Like worms the Democrats can't get enough dirt, it's natural to them. Parrish I'm sure is however quite proud of himself. That's what makes him a liberal.
Has Joe Biden, who has a pretty filthy mouth himself, been asked to repudiate his former office manager?

It is clear from the video that the guy knew he was being a d-bag.
But he did it anyway.

That entire question-and-answer session should have been videotaped. That way, we would have the guy asking that snide question on YouTube for all to see.
The Democrats used YouTube effectively to spread the "macaca" incident to discredit then Senator Allen. The Republicans had the same opportunity here to stick it to the Obama campaign--but they didn't.
Follow the link to Gateway Pundit in the post. He has it up on his site. I think given that this is a family site, we probably should just let others put it out there.

OK, I now saw the clip on YouTube.
The clip proves my point: It makes the questioner look bad (notice the audience reaction), not McCain. The questioner was trying to try to goad McCain into losing his temper, but he didn't.
Look on the bright side: From Mr. Parrish's own words afterward, this was a desperate attempt at a counterstrike after the Reverend Wright disaster. It shows how much Obama has been wounded by that disaster.

in front of three reporters no less. Jokingly, but I suppose most people don't find that type of humor funny.
And why is it cowardly to ask a question? I'm sure it was probably the most interesting moment of the whole overprogrammed session.
That was such a bogus story. It is completely unsubstantiated. No independent sources have confirmed that he actually said it.
“.....women and minorities hardest hit”
This is the first time I've even heard the accusation. I can't think of anything that has appeared more random to me at a townhall meeting.
I can't say my reaction would have been much different than McCains. I probably would have snorted, shook my head, laughed a little and moved on to the next question.
I'm curious if this guy also subscribes to the "what I do privately (with interns) is my own business and has nothing to do with how I act in office".
"Hey, I call 'em like I see 'em. I'm a whale biologist."
The author has three sources and mentioned exactly who else was in the room when McCain said it, as well as what Mrs. McCain said and did immediately beforehand. He's exposing himself and his publisher to a pretty serious libel suit if he made this up. (In the event McCain loses, probably right after the campaign.)
It really isn't too hard for McCain to say something like this if it really didn't happen:
"Of course that's not true, I would never use language like that to describe my wife, and anybody who says I did is a lying scoundrel."
Not that I think this is such a big deal, or that McCain said this with malice. Politics should be about policy, not all this "gotcha" crap and digging up every detail of someone's life, in this case a strange and overly salty sense of humor.
But "gotcha" is all the GOP has since the public has turned away from the GOP policy agenda (Iraq war, tax cuts, banning abortion, making bankruptcy laws more pro-bank).
So don't be so shocked when the other side plays gotcha too, though I hope Obama can resist the bait himself, there is no reason for all the Dem 527s to do so.
First, the assertion that "all the GOP has" is "gotcha" is (a) a load of crap, and (b) the domain of Democrats. Once again, Dems project onto Republicans their own faults (see 'culture of corruption', 'starving children and the elderly', and 'vast conspiracy' for other handy examples. Simply pathetic.
And why exactly should McCain dignify that with a response? Once thing we've learned well from the Treason Media wing of the Democrat Party is that if you give them half of an excuse, they'll set the agenda. In this case, they'll make it a staple of every interview, and write constantly on it. And the theme will go something like this:
"McCain continues to deny persistent and growing rumors that....[fill in the blank with the lasted whole-cloth invented rumors]"
Three sources indeed.

...for the reporters and gave the names of two McCain staffers who aren't confirming the story. Unless you have the names of the three reporters? I have yet to see an article that names them.
Look, Sparky, your fellow traveler failed with his misogynistic little gambit. McCain handled himself with infinitely more class than his attacker, and there's no getting around it. Just accept it, and move on, before you grow boring.

"Is it true that you accepted bribes?" (Talk about the Keating Five, talk about corruption inherent in the office)
And what do we have here?
"Is it true you called your wife a naughty name?"
What the (redacted), dude.

Well, since we have Barackolytes swearing that in twenty years of attending Wright's Church Obama missed every single one where Wright preached Crazy™ I guess I shouldn't be surprised ...
I imagine anyone could easily roust up five people who can claim, under cover of anonymity, that Barack hit an ex-girlfriend while in Harvard (pre-Michelle).
Would you believe it ... or do they have to be "reporters?"
I love it.

that he dodged and refused to answer the question, therefore it must be true.
And even if he denied it, they'd say he couldn't disprove it, so it still must be true.
...and the Register's reporting of it is reprehensible.
I believe it was a Kossack who asked the former Virginia Senator if he ever "spit on his wife" based on similar innuendo.
His temper isn't on such a hair-trigger and he's clearly very secure in a loving marriage.
and does that pass for straight talk?
When did you stop beating your wife/girlfriend/mother, credulous?

I was reading a diary on Kos (I know) about how they shouldn't be afraid of talking to conservatives (because they think they can convert us). They started bashing Fox News (and radio by extention) saying that they only let stupid liberals through. I find that statement to be mostly redundant.

Markos says Dems are 'idiotic' to go on Fox
With two big Fox News interviews this week--Obama/ Wallace last Sunday, and Clinton/ O'Reilly this Wednesday--progressive Democrats aren't likely to be pleased that the party's candidates are spending so much time on Rupert Murdoch's cable network.
