Texas tells D.C. to BACK OFF!
The Republic of Texas, lead by Governor Rick Perry, is drawing a line in the sand via HCR 50. HCR 50 reaffirms the sovereignty of Texas and rights of states under the 10th amendment. HCR 50 tells D.C. that their unbridled infringement on states and individual rights will no longer be tolerated, at least in Texas.
From Office of Texas Governor Rick Perry:
“I believe that our federal government has become oppressive in its size, its intrusion into the lives of our citizens, and its interference with the affairs of our state,” Gov. Perry said. “That is why I am here today to express my unwavering support for efforts all across our country to reaffirm the states’ rights affirmed by the Tenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. I believe that returning to the letter and spirit of the U.S. Constitution and its essential 10th Amendment will free our state from undue regulations, and ultimately strengthen our Union.”
A number of recent federal proposals are not within the scope of the federal government’s constitutionally designated powers and impede the states’ right to govern themselves. HCR 50 affirms that Texas claims sovereignty under the 10th Amendment over all powers not otherwise granted to the federal government.

Government’s view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it.

We’ve made too many compromises already, too many retreats. they invade our space, and we fall back. Assimilate entire worlds, and we fall back. Not again. The line must be drawn here. This far and no further. And I will make them pay for what they’ve done.

It's too bad
Menlo (Diary) Tuesday, April 14th at 10:07PM EST (link)As we saw with the selection of the new speaker, Texas has a state house loaded with RINOs. For years now, most of the state’s Republican primary voters haven’t got a clue who they are voting for, and none pay attention to what happens at the state legislature. It’s a popularity contest. Unfortunately, I see no reason why that will not change in the governor’s primary for the benefit of Kay Barely Republican.
Between the short infrequent sessions and the insurmountable procedural hurdles, it’s hard enough to pass anything in this state with a decent house speaker. I don’t look for one piece of noteworthy conservative legislation to make it to the governor’s desk this year.
