The short-lived Obama realignment

In April I blogged about Larry Sabato’s statement that, in the wake of the much-vaunted 2008 Obama realignment, “we’re on our way from being a two-party system to being a party-and-a-half system. And the Republicans are the half a party.”  Sabato was all over the tube last night and today, but I didn’t hear any mea culpas from him about what now seems like a ridiculous prediction.  Nor did I hear any apologies from the many other pundits who made similar predictions.

Obama’s 2008 victory in Virginia was the crown jewel of the supposed realignment.  Now it’s a glaring example of how silly virtually every declaration of realignment turns out to be.  As I said in April, such declarations “are appealing in their simplicity and particularly persuasive in the aftermath of a one-sided election.  But, like all analyses based on sample sizes of one or two elections, they’re essentially worthless.”

Use The Force, Luke

6eorge Jetson Thursday, November 5th at 1:08AM EST (link)

With Reagan already called up to the afterlife, and with the Republican leadership manned in part by squishes on their knees, I can see how those cheering the Death Star might have overlooked the power of the Conservative Force.

While “if you want a job done right, you better do it yourself” is anathama to the Dems way of thinking, the bleak days following the Nov 2008 election and the attempts to shove socialism down our throats have awakened a sleeping giant.

You see, Larry Sabato, self-sufficient conservatives don’t necessarily need a top-down figure like Zero™. We’ve decided to do it ourselves, and while you can demonize selected Republican leaders, you can’t demonize the tea partiers of the VRWC, because it is, afterall, vast.

in your sig line 6eorge.

Funny.

The problem with America is stupidity. I’m not saying there should be capital punishment for stupidity, but why don’t we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?

Thanks, itrytobenice

Con-men unite

It’s time conservative men got off their collective butts and did some of the needed ground work for the 2010 elections. Search out the conservative candidates in your area and volunteer your time and energy… Lets make 2010 a return to Ronald Reagan conservatism…

Ann Coulter had a much better analyis than Sabato

ColdWarrior Thursday, November 5th at 2:17AM EST (link)

Thought you’d like this Coulter quote.

“[V]oting for Obama a year ago was a fashion statement, much like it was once a fad to buy Beanie Babies, pet rocks and Cabbage Patch Kids. But instead of ending up with a ridiculous dust-collector at the bottom of your closet, the Obama fad leaves you with higher taxes, a reduced retirement fund, no job and a one-year wait for an MRI.”

Here’s the link to the column (which, as usual, is funny and irrefutable):

And I agree with cooperscopy: we “con-men” (with “con-women”) need to unite in the Republican Party precinct committeemen ranks and take back our Party and our country now.

Thank you.

Well to a point, populism from last year is running against populism of this year

Richard Mullins Thursday, November 5th at 5:07AM EST (link)

and last year’s model got smashed up. That’s seems to the way it’s going at this point and mostly will keep happening for quite some time. What we are going to need in the future is more anti-populist congresspeople/president. It’s the only thing that can help us.

actually Obama is turning into a carbon copy (no pun intended) of Jimmah Carter

kyle8 Thursday, November 5th at 6:48AM EST (link)

He comes in on a wave of disgust at feckless big government Republicans (Nixon,Ford, and Bush).

He promises to be much more centrist than he really is.

He promises smart leadership in foreign policy but just exudes weakness.

He promises to be bipartisan but is in reality an extremely bitter, petty, and small minded apparatchik.

Except for the hillbilly brother, the parallels are all there.

There is a big difference though

bk Thursday, November 5th at 7:12AM EST (link)

Carter’s heart was in the right place, but he had no idea what he was doing.

Obama knows exactly what he’s doing.

are yoiu sure?

kyle8 Thursday, November 5th at 7:50AM EST (link)

because I actually think Obama is a much nicer fellow than Jimmy. Jimmy is a jackass of the highest order.

I dunno

bk Thursday, November 5th at 8:03AM EST (link)

As President, Carter seemed like kind of a dodo to me - a nice enough guy who was in the right place at the right time (what Dem WOULDN’T have won in 76?) but in over his head.

As a former President though, he’s turned into a flaming as– uh, jerk.

Obama strikes me as coldly calculating. Getting here was fufilling his God-given destiny, and that’s all he cared about. Now we’re seeing with his appointments that it’s far left every step of the way - isn’t Hillary one of the most conservative people in his cabinet? And with his flippant and egotistical approach to everything - if I want it (health care) it’s important; if it was just a campaign issue (Afghanistan) it can wait - we’re seeing that he doesn’t seem to care about a damn thing other than implementing his far-left agenda. If that’s not your position, then you’re treated as an enemy.

"Con-men" brings some negative implications

scarlos Thursday, November 5th at 2:23AM EST (link)

after all, a conman is some one who tricks you into helping him by lying about his intentions, much like most of our current leadership.

Co-(wo)men would probably be better.

How can anyone be surprised when an ideology that regards wealth as a cardinal sin cannot produce it?

The twelve month realignment,

johnt Thursday, November 5th at 11:16AM EST (link)

Vooosh, there it goes.
But why pick on Sabato? Is he, was he, any more wrong or dumber, than legions of others? Media savants knew just what Obama was, if nothing else his reprehensible associations gave him away. But this was just what our media wanted. And in their giddiness, their prayers answered, they became stupider than usual. Yes, it is possible.

The semi-literate dopes really thought & couldn’t conceive of any strong resistance to the radical program of this clown.
I guess 1994 was too long ago, lost in the mists of time, After all, to a child there is only today.
