DNC on Eric Cantor: “Both Abramoff and Cantor are Jewish”

Did We Mention That Cantor Is Jewish?

The Democratic National Committee has a website set up to attack potential McCain running mates as “The Next Cheney” (if only); if you want to see there are pages dedicated to Bobby Jindal, Mitt Romney, John Thune, Tom Ridge, Tim Pawlenty, Carly Fiorina, Charlie Crist, Fred Smith and Eric Cantor. Lest there be any doubt as to the origins of this site, there’s a disclaimer at the bottom of each page: “Paid for by the Democratic National Committee — 430 S. Capitol St. SE, Washington DC 20003.”

If you go to the page on Congressman Cantor, you will see a grainy image of a grimacing, disembodied headshot of Cantor, and then the meat of the attacks, starting with the shocking revelation that a member of the House GOP leadership frequently votes with the GOP, and then moving on to various efforts to tie Cantor to Jack Abramoff based on having done some fundraisers with the prolific fundraiser.

Where this gets creepy, though, is the persistent focus on Cantor’s faith. We should associate Cantor with Abramoff, the Democrats tell us, because “Both Abramoff and Cantor are Jewish”. Then we get this item that is supposed to make us fear Cantor:

At Fundraiser, Jack Abramoff Named Sandwich After Eric Cantor — Cantor Asked To Switch Sandwiches. “At a January 2003 fundraiser for Cantor, who had just become chief deputy whip, Abramoff unveiled the Eric Cantor sandwich, ‘a tuna-based stacker,’ which, lamentably, was ‘not quite [the] power lunch befitting’ the only Jewish Republican in the House. Hence a request by Cantor … to switch his eponymous sandwich to roast beef on challah, ‘a deli special that exudes Jewish power.’”

Oooh, that scary Jewish sandwich power! Head for the hills!

In fact, in a webpage that runs just 660 words, the word “Jewish” appears five times, which I suppose in some circles is a really devastating indictment of Cantor. You can see a screenshot of the page below the fold.

Cantor the Jooooo

…ground up in the challah bread. Possibly they didn’t get the memo back from the antiwar movement in time.

What charming people we have for our opponents.

      OOOOOOOOHHHH. Scaaaary.

      JOOOOOOOOOOS.

      Democrats are bigots.

      • kyle8

        oh noes!

        • Canthros

A sandwich. I’m actually impressed that they managed to come up with a link that was ridiculous than the observation about the two men’s religious affiliation. Oh! Did they notice that Cantor and Abramoff are both … male?

          They’re clearly part of the man-centric male-ocracy.

  • Uma_Richie

Any man who sees something phallic in a roast beef on challah sandwich should consult a plastic surgeon.

  • streetwise

Pending McCain’s VP choice, we can wait (for a considerable time, I suspect) for the inevitable Obamite denial, and the obligatory throw of a plausible suspect under the ObamaBus.

    • Zombie_Flanders

One wonders why they failed to mention the Gentile bones ground up in the challah bread. Possibly they didn’t get the memo back from the antiwar movement in time.

That’s kind of a messed up thing to say…blood libels have actually been used to justify a lot of murder in the past. It is like people saying Bushitler. Actually, it is way more graphic than that…

As for the article itself, I don’t see the big deal…as per the first part, saying that they’re both Jewish is background on why they were at a fundraiser targeting the Jewish community…same artcile-writing standards that explain why, say, this AP article mentions that Obama is black when talking about the whole race-card dustup from a few weeks ago. As for the sandwich thing, that is to make him look stupid (it is, after all a quote from him and probably elicits the reaction of “wtf is he talking about” from most people). Also to make him look buddy-buddy with Abramoff, cracking jokes and stuff.

Just in case you’re wondering how the MSM would react of the McCain camp had done something like this, here’s what it would have looked like:

        mushroom cloud

By the way, anyone else see an inconsistency with Barak’s “new politics” and having a web page devoted to smearing the potential veeps, rather than attacking thier records?

Somehow this “new politics” looks just like the “old politics”, with a “use the race card for free” card handed to ONE of the candidates (and it’s not “the white haired dude”.

        • Next93

          N/T

          • sergee3

Logic of the Left: Judah P. Benjamin was a Jew and a Confederate Cabinet member, and Eric Cantor is from a Confederate state (VA)… Confederates were slave-centric and Obama is black… I’ve got it! Cantor is bad because McCain must be racist!

In all seriousness, Cantor is my number one hope for VP; he was tied with Fred, until Fred said no earlier this year.

          • blooch

Obama at 57% Jewish support and falling…trying to take the record low from Carter.

          • kyle8

you are good at this sort of thing, I’ll bet you could get a job on MSNBC.

While writing up a comment on this, I realized that it was a bit too long for a comment.

And it really, really deserved to be commented on. A lot. At length.

I have a new diary entry up on DNC Anti-Semitism, with some questions about Sen. Joe Lieberman.

And some questions about the site of the DNC Convention soon to open only a…stone’s throw…from another Colorado city famed in song, story and animation.

As another Eric said in animation-land, “Wir m?ssen die Juden ausrotten!…” This would be funny if it wasn’t so darned deja vuish.

    • Next93

St. Paul was once known as one of the most (if not THE most) anti-semitic cities in the country. I was told this by a Catholic woman who married a Jewish veteran in 1946 (my wife’s grandmother), and she saw it first hand.

Given the fact that the Dems have managed to paint the GOP as racists (ignoring the fact that it was a Republican president who signed the Emancipation Proclamation along with 100 years of Dem-sponsored Jim Crow and Klan activity), I predict that this little nugget of information will surface during the convention in an attempt to paint the GOP as the real anti-simites.

      • sergee3

Do they hire Jews? I don’t watch the station enough to know either way.

        Thanks for the comp.

        • Next93

Why hasn’t a movie been made about Judah Banjamin? This guy’s amazing. From what I’ve read, he may well have been the only competent member of the Confederate cabinet. How about this for a resume:

          • An imigrant Jew selected by the state legislature of (get this!) Louisianna to be a US Senator. Twice (once as a Whig, once as a Democrat).
          • Twice offered a seat on the SCOTUS with a guaranteed confirmation,
          • First Attorney General of the confederacy.
          • Secretary of War of the CSA until he voluntarily threw himself on his sword (politically speaking) rather than publicly reveal the confederacy’s critical lack of manpower
          • Secretary of State for the CSA, and champion of a plan to free any slave willing to take up arms as a Confederate soldier (a plan that might have changed the outcome of the Civil War).
          • First Jewish cabinet member of any new world government.

Yes, he was a slaveholder for 17 years, but he sold his plantation and it’s slaves more than a decade before secession, and it really looks like he was more concerned about states rights than in maintaining the institution of slavery. It really is a shame that he was on the “wrong” side, he might have been able to shorten the war by years.

  • ConservaGeek

Let me get this straight… any criticism of the Obamamessiah would be called racist by the Obama campaign and their shills in the MoveOnMedia.

Yet the DNC gets a free pass from the MoveOnMedia about this sort of stuff.

Could they possibly make their double standard any more obvious?

…I’ll be happy to stop bringing up the fact that they have them.

I know it was a joke (note the word “joke” in the comment’s subject line) I just think it was inapro.

That’s inappropriate, for all you old people.

Though with my 21st birthday coming soon I am getting a step closer to joining the old people ranks. I guess no longer violating drinking laws on a weekly basis (weekly is charitable) is part of that process…

          • Zombie_Flanders

I reject your premise, any anti-war anti-Semites are immediately ridiculed and yelled at if they out themselves as such (at least among people who have any ability to communicate to a large group). But even if that were not the case, it would still be a messed up thing to say.

          • Moe_Lane

            We’ve seen the damned pictures.

These people are the backbone of your movement, and the fact that we tolerate your presence here should not be taken as any indication at all that we will tolerate you lying about it. Do you understand?

            Yes or no, please.

          • Zombie_Flanders

First, of all, these people are hardly the backbone of any movement, some dude with no clothes and some nonsensical sign makes the rest of us cringe more than anything. I have been to one rally before, my friends and I were walking through the mall and came upon one, we stayed out of curiosity, there was one guy with some Bush = Hitler type sign who kept interrupting the speakers, everyone treated him like some crazy dude who should just shut up. I was not at the above rallies, so I don’t know but I suspect that at any sizeable one they’re treated similarly…like the “don’t taze me bro” kid or something.

I feel like I shouldn’t have to say that the vast majority of anti-war people have probably never been to any rally, or had a similar experience to mine.

I’m sure I could find some pictures somewhere of some crazy people on y’all’s side, or descriptions of the thoughts of some people on y’all’s side or something (all I have to do is find an ad for Sen. McCain! Zing!)

the fact that we tolerate your presence here…

Should I take this to mean that you don’t really want me here? Because I have no primal urge to post here, if you don’t want Dems like me around just say so…

          • aaronbg

          • Moe_Lane

Next post, or last one. Your call.

          • absentee

You’re just wrong. These types of protesters are commonplace and well accepted. If you don’t like being associated with them that’s really not our problem.

          • Zombie_Flanders

Well, it is a “Have you stopped beating your wife” type question…either I am right or wrong, if I am right then I am not lying, if I am wrong then I am misinformed or something, and lying is knowingly saying something untrue…I understand the general concept of lying being bad it is just something I am not doing here…

But anyway, considering the circumstances I will say see you all later, I had fun posting here and good luck with everything. I wish you all the best, at least with everything other than getting McCain elected :-) Also, wish me luck in getting into grad school (I’ll say is that it is not in any field that is remotely political).

I wanna reveal before I retire from posting for the third time (like MJ!) that I am a retread, I suspect that Moe knows already but didn’t say anything, but whatevs. Just felt like putting it out there. And now I’ll steal his thing:

            :footsteps toward door:

            :door opens, closes:

            :car drives away:

            wait, I don’t have a car

            :rewind:

            :subway train leaving:

            :jet plane taking off:

          • Moe_Lane

Thanks for confirming that this was a doubly-justified banning, then.

Note the context and the even the quote marks. *Hence a request by Cantor “…to switch his eponymous sandwich (etc.)”
Speaking as a Jew, Cantor’s right — it’s a great power Jew sandwich. It’s a point of cultural pride, guys. — like being better educated, more faithful in marriage, better readers (obviously), and overwhelmingly Democratic. And the fact that Abramoff and Cantor are Jewish *needs *to be emphasized, it enflames the Jewish community that these gonifs were working for the Republican corruption machine and reminds us to vote for Obama and stand up for true Jewish values, honesty, and true patriotism.

troll? Well, I call it “listening to the opposition.” I check out this site every day or so to see what’s up, and usually refrain from commenting. But sometimes the discussion leaves itself so wide open for contraversy, I can’t resist. Sorry.

….I encourage yo to continue coming to RS…hopefully you may learn through osmosis…But coming in with potshots is a no no…either participate and contribute or just lurk.

          • psmarc93

Yes, I do learn things from hearing opposing viewpoints, so thanks for the welcome. But I’m a little confused — why would my comment be a “troll” or a “pot shot” and other comments such as “OOOOOOOOHHHH. Scaaaary.JOOOOOOOOOOS. Democrats are bigots” would be considered fair discourse. My comment was slanted, but factual and polite. Just askin’
