Beverly Hills Barack

The Heat is On

So, with every moment of the candidates’ time precious and the presidential election likely to be decided by a handful of swing states in the Midwest and the Rockies, Barack Obama is headed for…Beverly Hills?

Yup:

Barack Obama has planned appearances at back-to-back Beverly Hills fundraisers Tuesday evening, with the events on track to raise more than $9 million combined, possibly breaking the single-day fundraising record.

…Much of the money raised at Tuesday’s twin events — a dinner reception at a historic estate, followed by a concert starring headliner Barbra Streisand — will go directly to the Democratic National Committee, while other dollars will be funneled into Obama’s own campaign coffers.

Well, at least nobody now will accuse Obama – who, you will recall, appointed his White House transition team back in July – of heading to Hollywood in the middle of campaign crunch season out of overconfidence. After all, he needs to keep raising an average of $3 million/day due to his, er, executive decision to skip public funding. And his donors aren’t so cocky anymore either:

Fear is also a great motivator. With the rapid rise of rival Sen. John McCain in the national polls over the past week and the hubbub surrounding his vice presidential pick, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, a renewed sense of urgency has gripped Democrats. Those in the entertainment business seem especially aware that a new leading lady mysteriously dropped into the final act of a thriller can dramatically alter the previously predictable storyline.

“People are really scared that McCain is gaining,” said a Hollywood politico involved with Tuesday’s fundraiser. “In my 20 years here, I have never seen folks write checks like this.”

Of course, there are also few stories Hollywood knows better than the underdog who takes down a favorite who got overconfident.

    ….to greet him.

Matt Damon, that nice young man whose image can now be found on pampers.

    P. Diddy, you remember him, he was arrested for weapons charges in NYC.

Lindsey Lohan, the nice little girl from “Parent Trap” who had just a little trouble with cocaine and booze.

Madonna, the geriatric girl in fishnets.

Pam Anderson, worlds most famous silicone share holder.

I may be forgetting a few thousand junky’s, fiends, bleeding hearts, inmates, artists and sluts. I am sure they will show up though.

FoxNews.com: “McCain attended a fundraiser at the Beverly Hills Hilton Monday night, which included a number of Hollywood Republicans, capping off a $4.7 million, two-event day…

?I would like to thank so many brave and courageous people who are here that happen to be in the business of Hollywood who are risking their entire futures and careers,? McCain added.

Republicans in hollywood are risking careers and reputations just to attend a political function with the candidate of their choice. I hope you guys can drag up better smears than what we have seen so far because it’s rapidly turning into a joke.

Sorry, but it’s the GOP that has the Presidential candidate with actual, real-life accomplishments; hence, him visiting Hollywood does not have the same essential aura of a long-lost traveler finally returning to his ancestral home as does, say, Obama…

Just thought that I’d point that out.

You are missing the whole point. That was one of the last stops on the pre-convention fundraising circuit. McCain doesn’t have to do those now – I’m sure he’s still doing the occasional RNC appearance, but he doesn’t need to keep stumping for funds in the stretch drive. It’s the middle of September now and Obama’s still at it.

If this politics thingy doesn’t work out, maybe some of his Hollyweird buddies can get him an acting gig.

‘Cause if he loses in November and the Ds get stuck with 12 (or :GASP: 16) YEARS of Bush/McSame he won’t be able to survive the Senate with the Grand Dame Clinton.

He’s gotta make his character beleivable, ya know. He hasn’t so far.

  • cjo30080

Let me see if I understand.

It’s okay for McCain to raise money from Hollywood celebrities, but it’s not okay for Obama to raise money from Hollywood celebrities because:

Republicans in hollywood are risking careers and reputations…”

the GOP has the Presidential candidate with actual, real-life accomplishments…”

[McCain's Hollywood fundraiser was] one of the last stops on the pre-convention fundraising circuit. McCain doesn’t have to do those now…”

Or, is it just possible, that some of us have one standard for our favorite candidate and another standard for the other guys’ candidate?

    • Strelnikov

Again the facts: I do not believe anyone thinks it is wrong or illegal for Obama to raise money in Hollywood.

It is an observation: Hollywood, as part of the guilt-ridden-because-they-are-rich left-wing, is often c. 80% in the tank for Democrats. Of course Big Brobama will be there raising money!

McCain will have to make do with the minority of Hollywood Republicans (Gary Sinise, Janine Turner) who in general are not as well known.

Not a double standard: just an interesting observation!

I do think you make the mistake of not reading what was actually written.

It has nothing to do with a “Hollywood Fundraiser. It has everything to do with this quote you obviously missed:

?People are really scared that McCain is gaining,? said a Hollywood politico involved with Tuesday?s fundraiser. ?In my 20 years here, I have never seen folks write checks like this.?

I assume you are just as scared by your knee jerk reaction.

Kid, it ain’t our fault that you nominated a chowderhead. Neither is it our fault that you don’t like being reminded that you nominated a chowderhead. And while it is our fault that we don’t care if you’re offended that we’re pointing out that you nominated a chowderhead, well, we don’t really care about that, either.

You guys really need to learn how to smile when the fox gnaws. Not to mention your candidate, who should have shrugged this off a month ago and dropped the subject.
