Universal Child Health Care Fails In Hawaii

From The Department of Entirely Predictable Consequences

Don’t say we didn’t warn you if Obama gets elected and tries the same sort of thing:

Hawaii is dropping the only state universal child health care program in the country just seven months after it launched.

Gov. Linda Lingle’s administration cited budget shortfalls and other available health care options for eliminating funding for the program. A state official said families were dropping private coverage so their children would be eligible for the subsidized plan.

“People who were already able to afford health care began to stop paying for it so they could get it for free,” said Dr. Kenny Fink, the administrator for Med-QUEST at the Department of Human Services. “I don’t believe that was the intent of the program.”

Wow, if you give something away for free, people won’t want to pay for it anymore! Nobody could possibly have seen that one coming.

Read the whole thing. H/T Ironman

When health care is free, you’ll get what you pay for.

and as WE all recall (Dem’s didn’t care about truth behind) what was going on with the SCHIP expansion. If we do not stop Obama, they will glide right past the “incremental” implementation of complete Socialized HC and on to the real thing.

That would make a good Oct 21 ad.

Won’t happen. We all work for many reasons other than money and taxes. Sorry, even as cynical as I am, I just can’t see myself coming along in line at the grocery checkout behind my sterotypical slouching, overweight, ugly welfare mommy and whipping out the State freebie card too. You just kinda want to be different from the lower class and emotionally disturbed, don’t you?

He doesn’t have the government give free healthcare to children, he requires parents to buy insurance for their children. It’s a mandate.

You can get all of the milk you want but aren’t allowed to buy the cow?

      I’m going to stop now.

will Obama’s Plan let you take them to PParenthood so that they can suck their brains out. I mean what’s a the dif between a few seconds/minutes/hours/days/weeks/months/years?

Of course, when the economy tanks and you become unemployed, or have to take a part-time job, your taxes will go down because your income will plummet!*

Try this little mental exercise: compare the Mayo Clinic (private) to Walter Reed (government). Which one do you think will end up being the prototype for a national health service?

I was in there this summer and the ads singing its praises were plastered all over the place.

      Update

It’s from March but looks like what’s happening in Mass. is what’s happened when it’s been tried other places around the world. Participants overload the system so benefits excee the money coming into the system. You either have to raise taxes to provide more funding or you ration care. It’s what will happen under Obama’s plan. McCain’s plan makes much more sense. The fact that we can’t shop health insurance across state lines like car insurance is just mind boggling.

    It is a rhetorical question.

Proof Obama is nervous about losing…

…he is spending money to reinforce existing voters. No proof being offered up that his continued spending is conjuring up new Obama supporters.

Keep up the good fight. The finish line is near!!

Why give the Government an interest free loan? Underwithhold as much as you can without a penalty. Better yet, work under the table; twelve million illegals can’t be wrong!

  • ColoKid

trying to handle health care programs is that they have limited resources. As everyone knows, these programs will work at the federal level, because the feds have UNlimited resources. For example, Obama could finance his universal healthcare plan by borrowing from the Social Security Trust Fund. Hey, it’s still got eight more years of positive cash flow, so why not? No? Okay, here’s a better idea: we’ll just print more money to cover the cost. That’s sure something a state can’t do. Too inflationary, you say? Wait! Wait! Here we go — we’ll just give everyone who signs up for the program a “tax cut”! Obamanomics Lesson 1:”Tax cuts” will pay for everything. :o )

    • GregInFla

When you buy things, you pay. Even the criminals pay taxes when they spend drug sale proceeds. Hiding spending will become the new tax strategy, such as spending overseas.

      • GregInFla

Lets see. You go into urban centers, where your old buddy community organizers are, spread some cash around, and there you have it. Chicago politics goes nationwide.
