On Not Letting Up

Target: Palin

For conservatives and Republicans tempted to follow Fred Barnes and lay low a while, just notice what sites like the Huffington Post are up to these days: the #1 topic over at HuffPo right now, by the frequency of tags used, is “Sarah Palin”:

HuffPo Tags

The Left will not let up its assault on Gov. Palin for any “honeymoon” period. We on the Right will indeed need both patience and perspective, as Barnes suggests, and elected Republicans will surely need to find some common ground with the new Administration. But we’re all adults here; let us not pretend that calls for “unity” are intended to be mutual.

they will not let up. They are scared to death of her. So are the Republican elite. While the liberals are afraid of her ideology, Republican elitist are afraid of her common man popularity which out numbers the elites 1000 to 1. They are afraid of guns, religion, babies, and common man values. They will lose the ability to shape the country in their image instead having to opt for the image of the office of President as for the people and not over the people. A President of the people. Who woulda thought?

  • tankertodd

Not for Palin, not for anyone. Liberals are the most intolerant people in America today.

  • Swamp_Yankee

..h as a veep candiate that was on the losing ticket ever been this popular and publicized and scutinized a full week after the election.

    • LoneApple

I’ve seen more than one liberal state that they think Sarah is a major threat. They are going to do whatever they can to destroy her early which is something we cannot allow.

      • LoneApple

        Whatever they cannot comprehend.

  • E_Pluribus_Unum

And while Puff-Ho is just an adjunct fluff site, I aim my artillery at that soft target as well.

(Now where did I hear that before :>)

We must swing our mighty swords and defend her – she’s family.

And you know how we Italians feel about family :>) This is why I chose Palin as the first topic on my BlogTalkRadio show on Nov 9)

because of her charisma and incredible political talent.

I have confidence that she will go past the media and talk to the American people as she has done so far, with integrity, courage and devotion to conservative principles.

as I recall her first statewide campaign was for lieutenant governor– she lost, was appointed to the energy commission where she demonstrated reformist principles and leadership, then ran for governor and won.

she knows how to learn from defeat and do what is necessary to win.

  • jeanedcrusader

This is unbelievable. They are not going to give her a break?? The liberal illuminati MSM really feel that threatened? They can’t even let Palin rest for a week back in Alaska without putting her name in lights? That would be shirking their duty to tear down all Republicans in the vicinity of a 2012 victory.

  • Huan

got to wonder why win or lose the left seems to be in one derangement or another.

  • geraldatwork

by making herself so available. It is not just on the Huffington Post. I can’t turn on the TV, Fox included where there isn’t a new quote by her, a new clip of her or an announcement where she is going to be interviewed somewhere. Just my opinion but if she was so concerned she should just stay in the background for a while. The negative stuff will be replaced by another story. I don’t think the Liberals are afraid of her. I think fascinated might be a better word.

  • hunter

To keep us worked up defending her while the Chicago gang systematically wrecks NATO, betrays Israel, appeases Russia and looks for end runs around the 2nd Amend. and the 1st, not to mention screwing up the eocnomy massively.
Gov. Palin is classy and tough.
She sheds their s#*t like water off a duck’s back.
The big eared hack from Chicago is neither tough or classy, and his handlers cannot hide that forever.
We should be on offense. Offense wins, not defense.

    • hunter

their place in the Obamanation- at the back of the bus.
Hillary has learned her place- on her knees and grateful to The One- now why won’t that Alaska chick learn hers?
I mean how dare Sarah not just be quiet in the face of lefty greatness?

      • geraldatwork

to hear that you get so easily distracted. It would be hard to believe the “big eared hack from Chicago” could actually make things worse than they presently are. Since by Republicans and Conservatives admission we really don’t know that much about him don’t you think we should give him a chance? Like it or not since the majority of Americans voted for him I think the lease he deserves is a chance. If he screws up in your opinion then you can go on the offensive.

        • WOSG

*It would be hard to believe the “big eared hack from Chicago” could actually make things worse than they presently are. *

My gosh what a fool you are then!

2 days after Obama was elected and the market lost 10% of its value. Vote of no confidence.

Obama will be a disaster for America in moral, cultural, economic and foreign policy fronts. There is not a single area where he wont be a crap-tacular left-liberal SNAFU dealing cock-up and his saving grace is only that political cowardice that will likely keep him from pushing the envelope too hard.

I originally was fearful he would be as bad as Carter, but on reading of Obama’s real background and his views, I admit my error: He will easily be worse.

          • hunter

YOu liberal hacks did not let up on Bush from day one.
From your disgusting ‘Curious George’ to the ‘Bushitler’ to Micheal Moore movies, to the 911 truthers you twits played footsie with, to voting for the war, and then going over seas to undermine it, to your continued lies about Florida votes to your bad mouthing the economy for years when it was in fact good, to your calls for American defeat, you used cow fodder plops deserve nothing at all.
Not one second of good faith. Not one ounce of good will. Not one moment of Republicans standing out there wioth hands out stretched in good faith, while demohacks are busy stabbing in the back and stuffing ballot boxes.
            Screw you.

          • geraldatwork

consider this group a place of intelligent people. I think your comment is nasty and below the groups standards. As to Palin speaking out, I have no problem with that. I respect her for standing up against those that don’t have the courage to put their names on their negative and possibly untrue comments but fortunately or unfortunately the people on the left are going to have fun with it. It comes with the territory. When there is no interest then she can begin to worry. From my advantage point she seems pretty tough anyway.

          • geraldatwork

and up to the early part of the Iraq war Bush had a very high approval rating. I would guess 70-80% range. I would think it would be hard to get to that total without a few Democrats and Liberals thrown in. I hate to admit it but based on the information we were being fed I also supported the war.

          • hunter

Is that you decided to listen to those lying about the war and working to secure defeat.
The question is why did you have such a loss of will and character?

          • hunter

to the Obamaton attack on Palin….but I am out of line for pointing it out and giving it the ridicule it deserves?
            lol.

          • geraldatwork

I think the American people were pretty clear last tuesday in how they voted. The first clear cut majority (over 50%) in a long time with many traditional “Red States” turning Blue. I don’t think I am the only person who feels that way. I came from a Republican family that goes way back. But one thing my father always said was give the new President a chance. The first time I heard that was when Kennedy was elected in 1960 and believe it is just as true today.

  • Alberta

Look, Im a huge supporter of Palin. I took to calling her the new Ralph Klein, which nobody outside of Alberta will probably get (Ralph was a hard drinking reporter (he was an everyman Palins no alchoholic so dont freak out) who goes on to become mayor of Calgary and eventually Premier (that would be equivalent to Governor) of Alberta. Ran as a reformer, all that.)

To repeat. I love Palin. Im single, too bad she isnt… but my threadjack is for this question. The media is trying to ruin our Palin-Jindal ticket, by preemtively (I butchered it I know) making Palin damaged goods. This, to me at least, seems to be the intention of all the hate. The question is: Is it working.

Not is it working here. At Redstate, I get the feeling a lot of people are down with Palin. But is it working on the people who are, to put it nicely, disengaged with politics. Now in Canada, just talking to people in bars and around, you get the feeling it is. Now this is Commie Canada so I throw it out. But is it working in the good ol US of A?

  • Marcus_Traianus

That’s a metaphor, before every liberal reading this posts a link and starts the mendacity (although I bet becker wouldn’t clarify the metaphorical allusion).

I have grown a bit tired of all the calls for kumbaya, surrender, it’s over, genuflection, girly-man weeping, historic, give the man a chance, free parking nonsense.

I recall 2004 when the inaugural speech called for reaching across the aisle. What did that get us? A boot in the behind, a bitemark on our hands, a bunch of guffawing clowns singing gotcha’ sucka every time we showed our hand and the Socialist Revolution in America. Congratulations.

Obama is nothing like 50 million plus of us, plus a bunch of others who were fooled by the marketing campaign.

Frankly, I am more like Sarah (just no skirt, but you know what I mean) than Mr “Let my People Go, from GITMO”, Welfare not Workfare, Retreat with the Beat Obama.

So Sarah, get your gun and Bowie knife. We have four years of no hold barred, cage match, save our country politics to achieve.

I better not be the only guy twisting in the wind.

    • finaljeopardy

Obama has the policies of Jimmy Carter (but without the experience)…the dirty tricks of Richard Nixon (but not the grasp on foreign policy)…and the dishonesty of Bill Clinton (but not the skill to lie well). I watched the entire Republican primaries and Democratic primaries, and I am fully up to speed on the current state of both parties and their key players. I am also well-acquainted enough with Obama’s record to be immediately on the attack. I want to make the next four years enormously difficult for him, because his vision for this country is wrong and he is corrupt.

      • hunter

        something that doesn’t count?
Sort of like when Rossi won in Washington, until the democrats ‘found’ the ‘ballots’?
You guys think the only victories that count are the ones that happen when you win.
I know we got beat last Tuesday.
We got beat by great lies from your guy,
a sorry campaign by our guy, a lucky break on the economy, and our guy declining to point out that your guy and his pals are who caused the economy to panic in September.
The voting numbers were the same as 2004.
It was only a few more democrats voting that made the difference.
When Obama shows himself, he will get clintonized and lose both Houses.

  • john_barry

The 2012 election campaign has already begun for liberals. Conservatives need to wake up to this fact. Liberals aim to destroy Sarah Palin or any other strong GOP candidate likely to emerge. Palin has the toughness to best the liberal smear machine.

The GOP must go back to sound conservative principles emphasizing a balanced budget, low taxation, and an end to pork barrell spending. In 2012 The Democrats are likely to have controlled Congress for six years whilst Obama will have been president for four years. Obama has made promises on health, taxation and free trade. How many of these will be fulfilled? Will he renegotiate NAFTA? He has promised to save jobs in states such as Michigan and Ohio. He will fail to halt job losses if such jobs are economically unsustainable. He is a prisoner of his many promises. These will come back to haunt him.

In 2012 the finger of blame can then be pointed at high spending liberals.
Obama will likely be a one term president
beholden to high spenders in Congress.
Nicer to be in opposition at present.
A greater effort must be made to build up the party in liberal states. Obama took some conservative states.

Do unto Obama as he has done unto conservatives. There must be few safe liberal states in 2012.

    • Huan

how then to counter attack rather than just go defensive?

      • Dan_McLaughlin

The 7-year decline in Bush’s approval ratings is a testament to what happens to someone who doesn’t hit back when you hit him.

        • hunter

Passive aggressive is not a viable strategy.
There is a serious book waiting to be written about this, the central failure of the Bush Presidency.

          • AlternateView

As a lifelong, liberal Democrat, I find this thread fascinating. I think it’s important to try to understand all viewpoints, particularly when they run contrary to my beliefs. Some comments here are very insightful and thought-provoking, and others are too much the result of only talking to others you agree with. The idea that the left is afraid of Sarah Palin falls in the latter category. In the hopes of furthering much-needed dialogue between the left and right, I will share an insight. Most lefties do not fear Palin. In fact, without trying to be insulting, many of us welcome her presence because — if you see her as the new face of the Republican Party — it simply means that you will marginalize yourselves in the future.

I’m old enough to be able to have experienced and appreciated many Republican politicians when your party stood by its principles. However, it’s been quite a while since I’ve felt like that. Did I feel disturbed when George W. Bush became President? Of course. But I didn’t see conspiracies, or see it as the end of the America I grew up in, or feel that the best way to deal with it was to constantly fight and oppose. I didn’t even expect Bush to mess up as much as he ultimately did.

There is a lot of understandable frustration on this forum now that the wheel has turned. Unfortunately, too much of it is manifesting itself in snide, smug, name-calling, anti-Obama comments and a call to fight and be obstructionist. Some of us liberals would welcome constructive dialogue with the right and in enacting legislation that represented a meeting of minds.

For those of you who could watch the election night festivities with some objectivity, you should have taken away the message that Americans are a hopeful people who are tired of fear, lies, and divisiveness. If you can adjust to that new reality and the fact that we need an inclusive society, Republicans will regain their position on the political scene. Unfortunately, if you continue to empower those in your ranks who have an obstructionist, un-accepting, “take no prisoners” attitude, you are condemning yourselves to a long, lonely walk in the wilderness.

Do I think Obama will miraculously fix our problems? No. But I’m old enough to have voted for JFK, and I want to be inspired again…and I am. Let’s re-visit this again in 4 years. I’ll let you know if I’ve been disappointed, and you can let me know whether it’s been as bad as many of you are predicting. In the meantime…stay positive.

          • Jack_Savage

So we would appreciate it if you on the left would stop it. The fact that you don’t seem to be whining like little children any more is a good start. Eight years of it probably even wore you all out.

I plan on affording Obama the same consideration and respect that was afforded President Bush by your side.

You want to be inspired. Go to a seminar. I want the country to be safe and strong, and that is why I oppose Barack Obama and his liberal soulmates, and will until breath leaves my body or they leave office.

          • LJMiller96

How can people who believe that every baby should be given a chance to be born and live without being killed in the womb have a meeting of minds with people who think that having a baby is a punishment? How can people who believe that people have the right to own their own property and the product of their own labor have a meeting of minds with people who believe that property is theft? How can people who have looked at the numbers and realized that American taxes are too high to be competitive with other countries have a meeting of the minds with those who want to raise taxes for “fairness” even when higher tax rates lower revenues? How can people who believe in free speech and freedom of religion have a meeting of minds with those who believe in crushing talk radio and punishing preachers who express political opinions (only if they are white)? How can people who believe in a color-blind America where justice is blind have a meeting of minds with those who believe that all justice should be based on identity group quotas, rather than the law? There is a reason for the partisan divisions. A meeting of the minds just proves that one side or the other has jettisoned its principles. Of course, if the left jettisoned its immoral principles that would be good. But I don’t expect that to happen.
