Some of you may recall that many of the themes used by Barack Obama in his presidential campaign, and even some of the words that came off Obama’s TelePrompter, were first tried out by another David Axelrod client, Deval Patrick, in Patrick’s successful run for Governor of Massachusetts in 2006:
Three years later, one poll says the voters of the deep-blue Bay State haven’t gotten the Change they Hoped for, and they want a recall, with Patrick locked in a dead heat just for renomination:
Only 34 percent of those surveyed in the poll conducted for 7News by Suffolk University say the governor deserves re-election, while a stunning 47 percent say it is “time to elect someone else.”
Voters gave Patrick a 43 percent unfavorable rating and a 44 percent favorable rating. The rest are undecided.
+++
Asked about Patrick’s job performance, 49 percent disapproved, 40 percent approved and 11 percent were undecided.
+++
Voters, the 7News poll shows, appear to have had it with Beacon Hill politics, with a whopping 72 percent calling for the state to add a recall vote for “underperforming” pols.
Some 51 percent believe the state is on the wrong track. Worse, 71 percent say Massachusetts will become “Taxachusetts” once again with only 5 percent expecting an economic recovery this year.
Read the whole thing for the most recent litany of Patrick’s screwups. Of course, these being Democrats, the Boston Herald has to note of the Democratic state treasurer’s strong standing against Patrick that the poll was “conducted before headlines this week that the treasurer faces an ethics probe over a Lottery contract.”
Patrick’s hardly the only embattled Democrat in the Northeast - David Paterson, Chris Dodd, and Kirsten Gillibrand will all be lucky to get renominated, and Jon Corzine faces a tight race this fall. Clearly, voters across the region are getting an early wake-up call about the hazards of one-party Democratic rule.

You know, for a party that's supposedly dying...

sconklin Thursday, March 26th at 10:03PM EDT (link)Moe, when you posted that story a couple days ago about the 2010 Governor races and the direction the state would likely end up going I knew it was complete BS when it said Massachusetts would stay blue. Granted Patrick could lose in a primary. But Deval Patrick is so ripe for the picking in 2010. His own party hates his guts and not to mention the Commonwealth is very thrilled with his 19 cent tax increase proposal on a gallon of gas making gas in Massachusetts the most expensive nation wide
But I did read somewhere that 95% of all people woudl get a tax break
We had similar numbers for Blago before his last re-election
Brian Hibbert Friday, March 27th at 7:18AM EDT (link)Don’t take this win for granted even if Patrick should make it through his primaries.
A candidate with high disaprovals can still win if they drum up even higher disaproval numbers for their opponent. Judy Topenka was villified for more than a year before the election in ad after ad. Topenka couldn’t match the spending and lost big to Blago (even though his own party hated him).

Deval Patrick in Deep Trouble
Carol Tarasewicz Thursday, March 26th at 10:55PM EDT (link)I live in MA. I cal the govs office once a week to yell at them to tell him NO to the gas tax, it also has a CPI increase built into it. He promised property tax relief and 1,000 police officers on streets of Boston, still waiting, I make sure to mention that I am still waiting for those 1,000 police officers. I yelled last time to tell the poor man that got me that 99% of them are corrupt, will say anything to get elected but do nothing. Deval is one of those 99%.
There is also issue of raising tolls, it was supposed to happen March 27, but he found money? I don’t know where he “found” it, perhaps by reducing the salary of an unfilled job for 12 plus years that he just filled w/a state senator (early supporter) from $175,000 to $120,000.
I could not believe after Deval’s versions of Hope & Change and yes we can or together we can, the people here voted in Obama. Same words, speech, both from Chicago, same campaign mgr. Axelrod,etc. He’s a failed gov, can’t wait for his departure.
Dont you love Deval's carbon tax for parking a car at Logan
