There’s No Such Thing As A Death Panel. There’s No Such Thing As A Death Panel. There’s No Such Thing As A Death Panel.

If You Say It Often Enough, You Can Convince Yourself

A reminder, from last year, of what state-run health care can turn into:

RS’ own Brian Faughnan has more on the Oregon case (“The compassion of the IRS and the efficiency of the Postal Service”); Nat Hentoff has more on the current debate.

Not just the “effective equivalent” of Death Panels… all those other distortions about the Dem plans for HC takeover (and that is still what it is, by any distortion they try to cover it under) – Democrat Health Care Townhall propaganda – a place to report the Dem’s Talking Points (read: Lies) and refute them with specifics.

We should have saturated “Red” districts and states with ads incoporating this video and story. Instead, we have been talking about Nazis, Facsists, clunkers and the freakin USPS. The story of a woman losing her life because some idiot ruled her life wasn’t worth the cost of her medication is way more powerful than anything that has been brought to the argument so far.

why did Senator Grassle tell us that “Death Panels had been removed from the Senate Bill”?

Is the Oregon Health Plan the only one available for Oregon residents?

Dr. Som Saha: “If we ‘invest’ thousands and thousands of dollars in one person’s days to weeks, yes, we are taking away those dollars from someone.”

Well, maybe some of those ‘someones’ are using the money to get hair transplants. Maybe none of those ‘someones’ are going to die if they don’t get their government money. It’s pretty clear that Oregon decided that this lady should just go and die while they gave the money that might extend her life by years to other ‘someones’ who might well have gotten along without it. If that isn’t a Death Panel decision, what is?

In extreme cases, as in England, even if she paid for the drug herself her doctor wouldn’t have been allowed to administer it.

If you think trying to get a private insurance company to pay a claim is bad, wait until you try to get money out of the government, unless you are in one of its favored groups.

understands that under Ocare some govt employee will make life and death decisions about his or her care based entirely on cost. I agree with the above poster that this Oregon case should be blasted from every media and public resource we have…

We already have death panels. They are called Insurance Companies. How do you think they have made such obscene profits in the last few years? By denying care to the people they are supposed to be insuring. This sometimes results in death and they have made that call.

    • Leopard1996

Insurance companies are evil, and they just look out for their profits.

And how would the Government do any better on this part. As a matter of fact it would be more screwed up. So go screw with this argument.

Here’s the diff: if granny’s denied medical care by a private insurance company, I can a) drop that company, and b) pay for the treatment without private insurance. The first solution isn’t an option under a government plan, and the second would be curtailed.

      • aesthete

You really don’t understand insurance companies if that’s how you think they make profits.

    • lukematthews

This line of argument is absurd. Insurance companies are contractually obligated to fulfill certain provisions. If the disease, procedure or injury isn’t covered by the provision, the person has a right to sue, look for other ways of payment, or find a different payer or provider. Once the government gets its hooks there will be no alternatives. The government, once it has taken over, will DECIDE whether you get the coverage or not. If you don’t like it, then it sucks to be you. Having the referee of the game also playing in the game is ridiculous. Besides, do you really think it is wise to have the one institution with a monopoly on power in charge of your every physical and mental process. How do you suppose freedom is lost? Not as often by invaders as by insidious takeover ‘for your own good.’

You have a very limited amount of understanding.

You thought that you won… and yet, here you are, having to repeat nonsense that you don’t quite believe in in order to protect the re-election of Democrats you’d rather see passed out in a ditch. And it doesn’t even seem to be working!

      Marvelous.

      Blam.
