Ted Kennedy, Workhorse Lawmaker


To His Credit, Kennedy Understood The Hard Work That Goes Into "Change."

It is traditional, upon the passing of an important and famous person - however controversial - to find some good words to say. This is not an easy task in the case of Ted Kennedy, a man whose personal life ranged from alcoholism to debauchery to sexual harrassment to (sadly, uncharged) second-degree murder, and whose public career entailed the embrace of nearly every foolish, ruinous and cruel political idea of the past five decades and whose most enduring legacy is installing the bitterly polarized modern Supreme Court confirmation process.

But a few words are nonetheless in order to recognize the man’s work. Because what we can remember positively about Ted Kennedy is his role as a Senate workhorse - a role that Barack Obama might have been wiser to emulate.

Ted Kennedy arrived in the Senate in 1962, as soon as he was Constitutionally old enough to serve; aside from a Korean War-era non-combat tour in the Army, it was his first real job. Kennedy was a young man with fame, glamor and a fair amount of his family’s natural charm, but had done nothing of distinction with his life to that point; he’d inherited the seat as effectively a family heirloom, and a review of his life to that point - such as being suspended from college for cheating and a reckless driving arrest for leading cops on a 90 mph chase while in law school - would hardly have suggested a man likely to take seriously the work of a United States Senator.

Kennedy at that point could have taken a number of different turns. He could have become a Senate showhorse, making the rounds giving speeches and national TV appearances and doing little real work. He could have become one of Capitol Hill’s time-markers, coasting to re-elections while using his office as just a prop for the exhausing, booze-and-flooze nightlife he pursued for so many years. He could have decided that fame and glamor meant he deserved to run for President at the first available opportunity, and stayed far away from any of the real and often controversial work of making laws.

To Kennedy’s credit, he did none of those things. He hired the most aggressive, competent staffs on the Hill and immersed himself in the daily business of making laws. Boring bill markups, blathering conferences, wicked hangovers; Kennedy took them all and kept working, working even to the end. He learned how the sausage was made and the deals done, and made quite a lot of it himself. He waited 18 years to run for President, and did so only after compiling an extensive record of actual accomplishment in the Senate.

Kennedy’s influence waned after his unsuccessful 1980 run; that year ushered in an era in which Republicans controlled the White House for 20 of the next 28 years, and more or less controlled the Senate (to the extent the Senate is “controlled” by the majority party) for the better part of 17 of those 28 years. But with key committee seats and an energetic staff, he remained a player in important legislative business to the end, whether forging successful bipartisan compromises (as with No Child Left Behind in 2001) or fighting for unsuccessful ones (the McCain-Kennedy immigration bill, which failed even with the backing of President Bush). The harshness of Kennedy’s partisan rhetoric never left him unable to figure out how Beltway Republicans ticked and how to get them to the bargaining table; Republicans who worked with him testify unanimously to his Irish charm and personal grace.

Kennedy’s career could have been a cautionary tale for our current president, who might not have found himself in quite the fix he is in at the moment if he’d followed Ted’s example, bided his years, spent more time in the trenches doing the unglamorous work of legislating and taking the hard punches that must be taken to sell the product to the public, learning how the system works, why it works and who makes it work. Most of the changes Ted Kennedy made in this nation over his career were change for the worst - but he did, over time, make real change because he worked at it instead of just saying the word “change” and hoping it would be so.

If ever there was a time to use the acronym R.I.P. (Requiescat In Pace, or Rest in Peace) I think it is now. Some thoughts:

1. Reid, Pelosi and the other carrion-eaters in Congress ought to leave the man, his reputation, and his family alone. Even the most terrific (or horriffic) politician is a human being, with human flaws and foibles, with a family who will grieve.

2. Those of us who don’t consider Kennedy or his legacy worthy of honoring or emulating could at least let the liberal children play for a day or two, to cry crocodile tears and publicly rent their clothing in mock mourning. It is to be expected, and we needn’t really trash the man again just to poke our current nemeses in the eye.

3. Could any of us come through life normal if: a) we were born into a family like the Kennedys; b) had three “better brothers” die violently (one in war, two publicly assassinated) with the result that, c) we inherited the mandatory mantle of leadership we were never ready to assume; and d) we new that through our cowardly or booze-soaked actions we were responsible for the death of an innocent woman in the flower of her youth? That would make for a “cocktail of crazy” few of us could handle.

4. Like his politics or not, he did “engage in public service” for 40-some years… and that’s how I see it — believe me, to live in D.C. and run amongst that pack of thieves and scum is a life I would never want.

5. The guy was an alcoholic, like so many, many in America. With that came all the involuntary stupidity of that disease. Only he was in a position where his demons were very visible and could hurt us all.

Nah, he wasn’t evil, and he wasn’t a saint. He was a mixed bag, and I prefer to give him (and, by extension, all of us) a break. Privately, I feel like the rest of you. But publicly, I’ll say only this: may he “Rest in Peace.”

You do a terrific job here in your attempt to respect the man’s ability to marshal himself to the things he believed in, but what was his last official act?

To try and get the Massachusetts Legislature to alter a law that he had originally altered for purely political reasons, once again for purely political reasons, by muscling it through the Legislature just because he was Ted Kennedy.

So that the people of his state wouldn’t have the opportunity to vote on the next Senator to replace him.

I mean, a lifetime of service to his constitutents notwithstanding, many of them took that as a huge slap in the face. I’m a Republican and I took it as a slap in the face. Nobody really wants to talk about how blatant a power play that was, how it stinks of everything Kennedy himself spent his lifetime allegedly saying he worked against.

Here he is a few days before his death asking the Legislature to change the succession laws just because he can. I’m not cheering the man’s final act: it was just another example of how Kennedy really believed that the entire State of Massachusetts is really his family’s back yard. That’s how he chose to go out.

His “Colleagues and Friends” are singing his praises today but anyone looking at his last official act a public servant should realize that it was effectively an effort to disenfranchise the public in his home state, at his behest.

Nobody is using the word “hypocrisy” there in the MSM and people are treating his “legacy” with kid gloves but here we have a man dying of brain cancer once again trying to game the system just because he has the power to do so. He obviously didn’t trust the people of the Commonwealth of Masschusetts very much in his final days, even though it’s 85% (D) and led by a (D) governor of the most beholden kind.

The real irony of it is that so many of the people who nominally supported everything Ted Kennedy said, with an almost perfect fealty, are some of the same people who believe the Senate is an anachronism. He didn’t shy away from taking their money. He didn’t worry about basking in the power they granted him.

And yet, in the end, his last act was to say effectively: “Leave this to my buddies. Shut up, because I’m going to change the law so you can’t vote on my successor.”

All this episode really shows is the importance of winning the down ticket races… which is admittedly hard for the GOP to do in state like Mass. Still, I certainly remember some less then forthright behavior concerning the mid-decade redistricting that occurred in Texas a few years back. If that sort of behavior is ok, then I really don’t think that there’s a lot of room to complain about what the Dems are certainly going to do in Mass without looking like a hypocrite.

And incidentally, I think the way Texas handles Senate vacancies should be the model for all states… including our socialist countrymen from the Bay State, because it does strike a reasonable balance of making sure people are represented as well as limit just how long an unelected person can remain in the Senate.

 
 

Working hard in the wrong direction isn't a virtue

I’m sorry. I can’t get excited about a man who spent most of his life doing his best to change ours to his liking. Hard work, in the wrong direction is not a virtue. Hard work and a desire to make the nation great would be. But that was never Kennedy’s goal. Someone we bought into him being some part of our “royalty” and listen far longer to his messed up concepts than we should have.

In my opinion he was the weakest of the three brothers and rode the coattails of their tragic ends to fame and celebrity. He was as corrupt as the next man, without the excuse of poverty to protect his acts. Yet, he was not an evil man. He was a self centered spoiled rich man who thought, somehow, taking my money and giving to someone he believed deserving was a way to pay off the debts of his past.

Well, thanks but no thanks. And while we are at it, how did he become so wise in how to form a nation, or raise a family with a budget under fifty million a year, or run a business, or educate a student? I’m just saying.

He has left a legacy, one we will be battling for generations to overcome, and he did it with his eyes wide open, digging like a madman, only in the wrong hole going in the wrong direction.

At my site I talk about how his killing of Mary Jo offended the cop in me. Let’s just say he’s dead, he managed not to directly kill anyone else (although his policies and positions may have indirectly) and let him go.

As we try to fill in the holes he left behind, and begin to work in the right direction, let us all just call it even and move on. One more elitist gone, one less voice of twisted “reason” to further send us down the wrong path.

So far, it has been a good day for those stuck with his legacy, a shovel and a whole lot of work before us.

Dan’s post was a pure class act, and in many ways, I think that that class was wasted on Kennedy. I love Dan’s stuff, and had this tribute been to a more worthy advocate for the left, I would judge his latest piece far more charitably, but as it is, Dan is praising Frmr. Senator Kennedy with faint condemnation, to tweak the well-known phrase. We should just accept that he’s dead and move on. Doing otherwise either makes Kennedy out to be a saint, or at least a flawed hero, to those readers of Redstate who aren’t well-acquainted with his many faults and misdeeds in Congress (and makes us look like milquetoasts), or in the case of a critical piece, is untoward, gives the left ammunition, and has the potential of distracting us from any harmful developments occurring in Washington, if Redstate is oversaturated with said OPs. In short, Dan wrote a fantastic obituary to the wrong man, IMO.

My memories of the Senator’s peculiar form of Americanism go as far back as the Vietnam War, and still cause me to choke. Little in my memory of the man leaves me to believe he was a man of character, rather than simply an opportunistic, bullying, garden variety politician of the effete, elite variety.

He had nothing in common with the ‘common man’ despite all the efforts of his image-makers. In fact, he was the youngest son of a soft-on-the-Nazis, multimillionaire rum running racketeer.

On his death, I hesitate to utter my heart-felt : ‘Good Riddance’.
No. I won’t say that. Too unbecoming. So, I’ll simply make note here in RS of his death by uttering: ‘He is a man who ought never to have been born - considering all the good he performed for America from his lofty perch’.

A veteran is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to ‘The United States of America’ for an amount of ‘up to and including my life.’ That is Honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it.

Not one hour had passed upon the nomination of Robert Bork to the SCOTUS by President Reagan, before Kennedy rushed to the Senate floor to deliver a nationally televised speech that serves as a fitting definition of his legacy:

“Robert Bork’s America is a land in which women would be forced into back-alley abortions, blacks would have to sit at segregated lunch counters, rogue police would break down citizen’s doors in midnight raids, schoolchildren could not be taught about evolution, writers and artists would be censored at the whim of government, and the doors of the federal courts would be shut on the fingers of millions of citizens for whom the judiciary is often the only protector of the individual rights that are the heart of our democracy.”

Not a peep from the MSM on this, and it took over two months before the Republicans even responded, so shell-shocked were they. Well, we got Anthony Kennedy in his place, and he has let us down many times.

So yeah, Ted Kennedy was willing to work with Republicans. Sure. When was that?

BTW, CNN today issued a memo to their staff that there were to be no discussions of Mary Jo Kopechne or Chappaquiddick. Nice, huh? Seems to me I heard of lot of negativity when Ronald Reagan passed away.

It was 1969 when Senator Kennedy, recognizing the success of Medicare for senior citizens, first called for universal health care for all Americans. “We must begin to move now to establish a comprehensive national health insurance program, capable of bringing the same amount and high quality of health care to every man, woman, and child in the United States,” Kennedy said at Boston University Medical Center on December 16, 1969. You say his death was tragic, but what of Mary Jo? Bear in mind that she was a beautiful and bright young woman who had died in a pond on Chappaquiddick Island just 5 months before, on July 18, 1969 as a result of his actions, or more accurately, his lack of action. He managed to get himself out but left her in the car. He said that he tried to get her out but was unable to do so. Her body was found in the car, floating in the trapped air bubble. She had apparently used all the oxygen because the coroner’s report said that she suffocated, she didn’t drown. So…what does that say about his regard for her? Sometime later he told her parents that she was dead but he didn’t tell them he was the driver of the car until the news media spilled that tidbit!! A couple of months later Kennedy pleaded guilty to leaving the scene of an accident after causing injury and was given a TWO MONTH SUSPENDED SENTENCE!! Now that is fair don’t ya know!! And to top that cake, Kennedy claimed to be unfamiliar with that area yet it was shown later that he had made several trips to the beach using that very road which BTW required a sharp turn. It would have been difficult for a sober person, a person who had driven that road several times during the recent days to mistake that road for the main road. So he was either drunk when he claimed he was not or he did it on purpose with the intent on killing her for some unknown reason. We could speculate until the cows come home but it won’t help her.
I am going to revert back to the name that he is called by the Headquarters Of Rabid Right Wing Jingoistic Extremists Who Possess A Mob Mentality…Fat Teddy.
Fat Teddy pulled a fast one on Mary Jo’s parents, on Mary Jo’s friends and coworkers. and considering Kennedy’s occupation as a law maker, the worst one of all, on the law.
He should never have been reelected again after her death. That in itself is a crime!! So weep over him all you want to, but I won’t. I didn’t weep over John Wayne Gacy or Ted Bundy and I won’t weep over Ted Kennedy!!

I am not sure what I am most tired of, hearing about the wonders of Michael Jackson or the greatness of Fat Teddy K.
Everyone eulogizing him with wonderful tales of his accomplishments but not one noteworthy person has even once mentioned that he was a drunk, a womanizer, a cheat, a liar and most importantly, a murderer. For 47 years he sucked in a big paycheck, bloviated in the Senate, somehow managed to get reelected again and again despite his behavior in public and in private. He did more to hurt the United States of America than any other senator in history. We can all make note of the huge numbers of illegal aliens within our borders and thank Fat Teddy. I am sorry that he suffered in his last days and I am sure that his family are deeply saddened by his passing. But as so many so eloquently say, he’s in a better place!!

Mr. blooch, I don’t quite understand why you should be “hung up” on my screen name….It’s very easy to decipher….”jingo” is for “jingoism” or to be more precise, fanatically patriotic, flag waving, right winged, staunchly conservative American who believes in the Constitution of The United States of America and “twit” is for “twitter”, as in Twitter.
Nothing complicated. So call Moby, whoever that is and tell him that!! Whatever….
As for making only one comment, I only speak when I have something to say. There is no need to make needless chatter about everything and anything. I read so many blogs that are just plain stupid, meaningless drivel written with poor grammar and often punctuated with profanity.
Last words…..Joe Kopechne, you know, “that woman’s daddy”, well, he died in 2003 after living for 34 years without his daughter, his little girl, his only child. Why? Because Ted Kennedy put more value on his family name and his political career than he did her life, AND he was a coward. He knew that she would die in that car, in that pond and he didn’t care. If it had been Joe the plumber driving that car, he would still be in prison…but a Kennedy…no way…they were untouchable!

“Moby” describes a Leftie who comes to a conservative site pretending to be a conservative. The crafty ones usually start by throwing out some red meat to get some attaboys, then they switch to their version of insane wingnut to goad and bait. Sorry to jump on you, but it helps to serve notice on these clowns that they are being watched.

No badge of honor. My honor comes from being an American, an American who would rather die than give up liberty. The constitution of The United States was a document written by brave men and true and it was designed to assist a young nation of states to begin to walk together in unison. Working together to overcome any problem. The words “We the people”, the first words of the Preamble are still the most important words. They lay out the very heart of that document. As a kid in school I learned the Preamble, I learned the Bill of Rights and I learned portions of the Declaration of Independence. That was so many years ago. Today, kids have no concept of what those documents say or what they stand for. They hear things tossed around about this amendment or that amendment but they have no clue to what the value of those amendments are.
I’ve never heard the word “jingo” used as a word expressing disapproval. To me it is just a short portion of a much better word, jingoism!! I have to say that until I made my first trip to Scotland, I had never thought of the word “bugger” as anything else other than a person who is a real royal pain!! But learned that over there bugger is the “F” word….so I have also learned something about jingo!! LOL

Jingo is neither a pejorative, which is to say derogatory or dyslogistic, nor is it a blasphemous term. People have been saying “by jingo” for many years and I can’t recall anyone ever being chastised for it. Perhaps because it’s meaning is related to “fanatic” which could easily be associated with someone like Simon Peter, or the Apostle Paul, who were if anything fanatical, or if jingo does relate to Christ in some obscure way, all the better. For I am related to Christ. I am a Christian. Born again and washed in the Blood of the Lamb. And I learned many years ago, 50+ perhaps, that it is best not to “look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye” Matthew 7:3 (NIV)
I only mention that because it is obvious that neither of you etymologists have bothered to check on brother blooch….so you might find these sites informative in regard to his choice of “handles”….so if anyone should change his “handle” I think it would be more appropriate for “blooch” to follow your advise. I plan on keeping mine. I’ve been using it for a long time and until now, no one has ever found any fault with it. So you can either read my comments and make intelligent and appropriate replies or you can ignore them and continue to waste your time taking issue with my choice of words. But don’t expect me to waste my time defending myself.

You think more highly of yourself than you should. You take credit for my curiosity. As for bathroom walls, it’s been many years since I was in a bathroom where the users of said BR were so mentally deficient that they felt the need to deface someone else’s property.
As for “blooch” offending my sensibilities, that’s not likely. While it certainly is disgusting don’t ya know…and I can hardly stand even typing that word, let alone say it out loud especially in light of knowing what I know about the colloquial use of the word, it’s offends me not.
When you have lived as long as I have, traveled down the roads that I have, done and seen the things that I have, having sensibilities that are easily offended is not possible. Besides, I have often noticed that those who are easily offended have little else to do in their lives.

You began the duel.
You were the one who drew the attention from the subject of the blog, Kennedy, to the name I used on the blog.
You chose to make an attack on my choice of words rather than keep the focus on the subject that began with Mr. McLaughlin’s topic “Ted Kennedy, Workhorse Lawmaker”.
You either have a very short attention span or you felt that my Jingotwit” was more interesting than Ted Kennedy. While I will admit that Fat Teddy’s escapades leaves me cold, I have to say that were the shoe on the other foot so to speak, dissecting your choice of “blooch” in the light of what I already knew about the word or should I say, knew about the simulated origin of the word would have been at the bottom of my “to-do” list.
Blooch isn’t a word at all. It is a combination of vowels and consonants that form what could be referred to as a word only if you were thinking of it as an example of onomatopoeia, hence the reference to “blooch” on the urbandictionary.com & the sexlexis.com sites. Now in the immortal words of Aaron Gardner, “Most people who choose a name like yours are either unaware of its meaning or trolls.”

As for Twitter, I really don’t do anything with it. I signed up to please my child.
Personally, I find the entire concept of social websites a waste of time and energy. But my daughter wanted me to “follow” her and visa versa so I obliged. She has her tweets and her wall on FB. And we are to respect the needs of our children, don’t ya know!!
There are things available on the web that are for children and those sites, in my opinion, are fine for them if the children’s activities and contacts are scrutinized by their parents and guidelines are followed for their safety. But I would have found it rather difficult to discuss a “tweet’ with my associates. And as far as writing on a “wall” is concerned, I will leave that to the children as well.

$PECIALIST…I probably should not have used the word Repartee’, but my preteen daughter was standing looking over my shoulder and I had typed “intelligent political exchange” and she said I should change it to “Repartee”….I think it was her word for the day..sorry you didn’t like the word.
JANIS, I bet that the blogs on redstate WOULD be a constant thread of intelligent comments, not the other way around.
And I lost the bet because my friend Jake was right when he said that bloggers could not stay on point and were likely to gather against any newcomer.
So you see, while redstate was the soapbox, it was the bloggers that I was betting ON, not against. I can’t imagine why that should bother you.
As for the speckled bird, that was my friend Jake’s analogy though we had both learned about it in Afghanistan. Though I don’t believe it’s actual origin is mideastern. But it is truly barbarian. From “Aaron’s Archive”, the statement “conform and celebrate diversity….or else!!!” is a sort of oxymoron. You cannot conform and have diversity. In the Mideast, they do not embrace diversity. Nor will they allow it. So one who walks to their own drum beat is often either killed or forced to leave the protection of the settlement. So the saying about the speckled bird well known. I am not familiar with what Roy Acuff may have ever said but it is used in the bible but only once. I was in VN in the 60’s and I do know that an anti war group used the name back then in Atlanta.
ACHANCE, you have quite an impressive biography. I am sure that you did a fine job for Alaska. And I am certainly not cool, just ask my daughter. I never smoked dope, didn’t protest anything except perhaps my folk’s attitude towards homework. But as a member of clergy I have traveled to many countries that have either been racked by wars or were still in the midst of a war. I have held children in my arms as they died, soldiers too. Like you, I am retired now but I watch with sorrow the very fabric of our country being torn by liberals with the mindset that I mentioned before, they are willing to give away our liberties for an illusion of prosperity.
For myself, it doesn’t matter, 15/20 years from now I will likely be gone, but I have children who have children. And my young daughter is a second generation of sorts as my wife & I never expected a late in life baby. But she is here and I would love to pass to her as a citizen of the United States, a life that is not impossibly laden with debt, a country not inundated with illegal immigrants, a nation that upholds our Constitution and a place where she will know and experience the same freedoms that her mother and I have. But if you judge that conversations on those subjects are stupid and obnoxious, then you won’t have to ignore my blogs (janis)…..
Intelligent political repartee’…well, that is something that is certainly needed so that the far left does not push the conservatives out of the settlement. Liberals will embrace bipartisanship only if the right gives way to the left. That cannot be denied. Right wingers are far more apt to accept the ideology of a liberal as long as it doesn’t compromise liberty. Liberals on the other hand are more than willing to give up liberty for false prosperity.
If you people really wanted to discuss politics in an intelligent way, you wouldn’t jump on the first person who comes along who offers some different insights.
And just FYI, If you search the word ‘jingoism’ or “jingoistic” on Twitter, you will find a large list of people who have no true concept of the word yet have much to say. It is easy to read a dictionary meaning of a word, but to have lived the word, experienced the word, the meaning is far different.
When most people read the word “fanatical” they immediately think of Mussolini or Hitler when in fact, in the 1600’s, during some of the Christian persecutions, the word was first used to describe those who would not recant their faith in Jesus Christ even when faced with being burned at the stake, death by strangulation, death by sword, death by hungry lions, hanging, stoning, being disemboweled, being torn apart and other forms of murder all for the delectation of the unbelievers, the pagans, the worshippers of false gods and idols as well as men.
So it is today, a person who refuses to recant their faith in God and country are said to be fanatics. Well, I guess that makes me a fanatic.
To gain a deeper insight into the true meaning of “fanatic” everyone should read at least once John Foxe’s “Christian Martyrs of the World”.

I am sorry that the discussion went from Kennedy to user names. It was quite interesting to read the comments as they pertained to Fat Teddy’s legacy. Even though the number of comments was limited to just a few people, I was amazed at the differences of opinion.
In October 1979 I had the opportunity to attend mass at The Cathedral of Saint Matthew the Apostle in D.C. To our surprise the mass was celebrated by Pope John Paul II. As I was part of a group who were attending a Christian conference, we were introduced to the Pope. He was a gentle, soft spoken man, full of grace and humility. Senator Kennedy was there as he often was when in D.C. He was still married to Joan at the time. She was there as well. And they were of course at the head of the receiving line and as the Pope entered the room where we were waiting, TK was never silent, his constant talking and ego slathering was annoying to everyone including his wife. When the Pope entered and was escorted down the line and introduced to each person, though many of us were not catholic, we all were in awe of this great man. But TK, with the same audacity and self imposed greatness as Michelle Obama displayed when she touched the Queen of England, reached out and touched the person of the Pope. Only because of who he was, was he not thrown to the floor by the Pope’s bodyguards. As they had stepped quickly between Pope John Paul and TK. The Pope never stopped moving along the line nor did he look at TK.
Kennedy was attempting in his clumsy and self-serving way to establish some sort of connection that he could use to his advantage. There were 9 of us there together who were not catholic and he somehow knew who we were, where we were from and he took a moment to touch each of us on the hand and pray for us. We had this little German guy named Dieter–we called him Wee Dieter–who used to take care of our lawn. Had to fire him for attitude problems. I tried to get him to fill in some bare spots, and he screamed, “Bin ich Jesus? Wächst mir etwa Gras aus der Tasche?” I found this new guy named Lon Moore that I can really push around.

As a matter of fact I have. I have read every blog on all the topics that have been posted on redstate since I first began receiving it. There were a few comments that I didn’t agree with, but for the most part, I totally agreed with what folks had to say.
As for “writing about himself”, I suppose I should have given a bio on my profile but after my first few comments I was entangled in the debate over my choice of usernames and I completely forgot to do that. I will do it posthaste.
And I apologize for my use of the phrase “don’t ya know” but you hear it a lot in the NW though it was not Mrs. Palin who coined it but Tina Fey on SNL. Mrs. Palin did use it in jest a few times but her conversations are not filled with homey little colloquial expressions. She is well educated. Achance, you certainly can attest to that I am sure.
And $pecialist, I am happy to learn that you have Jesus on your lawn.
If you ever need a lawyer, I’d be happy to introduce you to mine, his name is Jesus.
BTW, my daughter approves of you calling me Philip. But she said it should be preacherphilip…..
My time at the keyboard is limited today as I promised my two beautiful women that I would take them to breakfast and then shopping for a new dress for the younger one. She has a piano recital tomorrow and needs a bit of female confidence booster. And nothing does that better than a new dress!

Usernames are tossed around in far to cavalier a fashion…it creates confusion and anymosity. I’ve threatened to quit Redstate a few times for their lack of action on this issue. It should be noted that no matter how much money, power, or government-financed resources you have, sometimes people get sick and die, and the Government can’t do anything to stop it.

We should reflect on this while we take a step back and ask “what is the current healthcare bill trying to fix?”

Apparently the intent is to have the guy with the most money pay for the health needs of the guy with the least money. That is really nothing to do with healthcare, when you think about it.

Now that Shovel-Ready-Teddy is gone, maybe the good people of Massachusetts will elect someone who will keep teh senate filibuster-proof. With all due respect to the gentleman from Massachusetts, he was not 80 proof. He only made it to 77.

He stood before a perfect bar of justice condemned. He couldn’t use his money or influence to change his sentence. Whatever good he may have done was erased by alcohol and lechery. Only now does he have the fear of the Almighty after winking at him. Only now does he feel shame. It’s too late for Ted. Let’s use this as an example for us not to follow. Power, money and license result in ruin and eternal despair. His is not a legacy of honor but of shame!
