The Meaning of Jobs “Created”

Your Tax Dollars At Liesure

The Washington Examiner spots the pattern from multiple news reports:

More than ten percent of the jobs the Obama administration has claimed were “created or saved” by the $787 billion stimulus package are doubtful or imaginary, according to reports compiled from eleven major newspapers and the Associated Press.

Based only on our analysis of stimulus media coverage in the last two weeks, The Examiner has created this interactive map to document exaggerated stimulus claims. The map, which will be updated as new revelations appear, currently reflects an exaggeration by the Obama administration of about 75,000 jobs, out of the 640,000 jobs supposedly “created or saved.”

Read the whole thing, and don’t miss clicking on the link for the map. Ah, well, it’s only $787 billion, I’m sure there’s more where that came from.

If the government would stand down and get the hell out of the way there would be millions of jobs that would be created.

CHICAGO ? The Obama administration may buy a near-empty prison in rural northwestern Illinois to house detainees from Guantanamo Bay along with federal inmates, a White House official said Saturday.

The maximum-security Thomson Correctional Facility, about 150 miles west of Chicago, was one of several evaluated by the Federal Bureau of Prisons, and emerged as a leading option to house the detainees, the official told The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because a decision has not been made.

Rather than yet another way to funnel endless funds to the Chicago area bottomless pit of corruption! This is the one area of the country where this will probably get rammed through as they won’t/don’t give a darn about what their folks will have to say about the usual NIMBY (Liberalism – yep, do anything/everything, but make it hurt someone else attitudes). I think the Standish, Michigan, area folks have made it clear it won’t happen their and the folks in charge not be held accountable — but, of course, in IL they will just ram it through and their ACORN buddies will ensure enough fraud occurs to get them all re-elected.

  • Brad Smith

Dan, you’re obviously a “glass half empty” type. All you pessimists keep whining about a 10.2% unemployment rate. By my calculation, however, that means that the “jobs saved” rate is 89.8%. And that’s a glass half full, my friend. In fact, that’s a glass almost 90% full.

Even if job losses continue at the same pace they have since Obama took office, it will take about 20 years before there are no jobs left in America. How can you complain about that?

    • mschmitt

Because otherwise it’s intellectual dishonesty on a staggering scale.

      • http://andrightlyso.com/ civil_truth

Brad often disagrees with conventional RS wisdom, but seems to be willing to defend his positions in a rational fashion – so I don’t really think he’s suddenly lost his mind here.

Rather, I think he’s as appalled as the rest of us at the rank dishonesty and ludicrous rationalizations that the Administration and its apologists (paid and unpaid) are employing to defend the indefensible.

        • mschmitt

… we were butting heads a little bit on another thread, and I wasn’t quite sure what to make of him. I follow it now, but at the time — goodness — I wasn’t completely sure!! :)

    • makemyday

The more real number is somewhere between 17%-18% counting those that have fallen out of un-employment and those that have just quit looking. Add to that figure the jobs lost by companies that have failed and those jobs will NEVER come back.

The declining un-employment figures which “O” is taking credit for from the stimulus in large part can be derived from the fact the employed labor pool is smaller. There just aren’t the number of employees left to layoff. What comes next will be the increased business failures with massive layoffs because those that are left will have no where to go.

I see the “Professor of Law” title and I respect your accomplishments and achievements. As President and CEO of a high tech company struggling in this economy and having laid off half of my employees since January 2009 I must tell you that you are mis-guided, delusional, and incompetent to discuss such matters.

an attempt at light humor it failed. I see nothing funny in it, sorry, I can’t. His posts elsewhere on this site are in the same genre as this one and I couldn’t let it slide.

            especially the reaction.

Of course it’s mocking Obama. C’mon, guys.

          • makemyday

The others know you and appear to have had the same thoughts as me in the past. So that being said “I’m sorry”. Any attempt to lighten the atmosphere should be grasped around here I guess because otherwise all we can do is cry.

BTW, my own daughter is attending Law School at Wayne State Univ. and doing very well. Wants to go into Constitutional Law because, she says, of my influence on her.
