Left-Wing Bloggers Say The Durndest Things!

The Netroots Bus Speeds Away, President Obama Clinging To Its Undercarriage

Somebody should ask Robert Gibbs if he agrees with the assessment of a leading left-wing blogger that President Obama hasn’t been “even half-competent in the White House.”

See, every now and then, I engage in back-and-forth on Twitter with some of the left-wing bloggers. Sometimes it’s pointless, but sometimes it’s revealing, and this is one of those examples. I and a few others were tweaking Markos Moulitsas of Daily Kos over this October 2008 post in which, reviewing the 2010 Senate map, he declared John McCain “delusional” for saying the GOP would cruise to “three or four or five” fairly easy Senate pickups in 2010. Instead, Moulitsas asserted:

[O]ff the bat, we have 13 potentially competitive GOP-held seats, and few Democratic takeovers. So no, 2010 won’t give Republicans 5-6 “easy” pickups. That’s ludicrous.

Things will be much different in 2012 and 2016 when we’re slated to play HUGE defense (defending our gains from 2006 and this year). Republicans can brag about the gains they’ll make those years because chances are they will. But 2010? Heck no. At this pace, we’re headed toward a 65-70-seat Democratic majority in the Senate by the end of 2010.

Yup, those are gaudy numbers, and it’s never wise to count your chickens before they hatch — political winds can change quickly as Republicans just found out. But assuming the current trends remain and Obama is even half-competent in the White House, we’ll have little to worry about in 2010. Our majorities should be safe for some time.

Note the use of the plural in that last, “majorities.” I asked Moulitsas if he still stood by that prediction, and his response was “That I stand by. GOP not taking Senate.” Which may turn out – narrowly – to be true, but it’s only one majority. A very different tune, these days.

But his more telling response was what he quoted in response to my question if he still stood by having 65-70 Democratic Senators by the end of 2010:

“assuming the current trends remain and Obama is even half-competent in the White House”. Caveats didn’t pan out.

There’s that plural again. Kos, by traffic at least the most prominent of the left-wing bloggers, based his assumption of an ever-growing Democratic majority in the Senate on the assumption that President Obama would be “even half-competent in the White House.” And now, he’s basically reduced to absolving his own hubristic projections by admitting that Obama hasn’t lived up to that standard.

Tough times.

Obama got just about everything he wanted legislatively, and yet he’s disillusioned. I feel like giving him a lollipop.

Oh, sure, Obama couldn’t manage a neighborhood Jiffy Lube, much less run a competent White House. Conservatives who were paying attention in 2008 saw that problem coming.

But why isn’t he happy? He got everything he wanted….

Oh, yeah. Americans don’t like socialism. Ah, well. At least a few people bought his book.

Well, I’m sure SOMEBODY did, right?

even on his own site. His mouth (keyboard) has destroyed what little credibility he had. He types before he thinks and goes on such idiotic rants, most of his own people just nod their heads, pat him on the shoulder, and just type something else. No one would ever accuse the left of being smart, but even the left won’t claim the idiot Moulitsas is smart. They do not want the world to see him, but can not get rid of him.

One Senator I would dearly love to see gone is Dear Ma’am Boxer. Its possible with this new ad out from David Zucker (of Airplane and Police Squad spoofs) that it will happen. Seems everybody is working too hard for their titles…

or for the full blow up go you tube.

(Ps. Ma’ams still in a virtual tie with Fiorina. Ras has Boxer up 2 with an MoE of 4)

I wonder if he is a rare Hollywood right winger?

After all, even leftist bloggers eventually have to change their drawers or come upstairs when their moms call them for dinner.

Please quit with the “spam New Post”. She may be everything you intimate and more, but that really is irrelevant when it comes to identifying, promoting and electing conservative candidates. Barry

when he noted how 2012 – 2016 democrats are on “huge defense” – which he expected even with his positive 2010 scenario. In 2012 democrats will defend 23 of 33 senate seats up for election. I hope political winds don’t turn on us before then, but of course that is not so much random as dependent on Obama’s behavior. If he pulls a Clinton, who knows what will happen. But more likely, he’ll slam the accelerator and continue to wreck the country (or try).

What in this man’s history gives any indication he is willing to compromise over anything? That would require a) listening to the other side, and b) at least tacitly admitting he isn’t perfect. I don’t think he has that in him.

We should be preparing for a full-on train wreck. Obama will not blink, even if it is disastrous for the country. He doesn’t care about the damn country – we’re a bunch of bitter clingers and rubes who can’t think clearly to him, an ungrateful bunch of honkies who should be thanking him for gracing us with his presence in between rounds of golf.

We don’t have the votes to override his vetoes, and he knows it. The next two years will not be pretty, and you can bet Obama and his propaganda wing, the legacy media, will be blaming us 24/7 from the day Boehner takes the gavel in January.

The odds look like 52D-48R to 51R-49D is the likely outcome.

Gee, will we have a “power share” like we did last time it was 50-50?

  • youngsterz

It’s good to know that our fearless leader, after two years of experience, is smart enough to appoint a new national security advisor who is. . . a former exec and then lobbyist for Fannie Mae.

Ummm, how does that make you even remotely qualified to be the national security advisor????

And how does this show that Obama is EVEN half-competent as a chief executive?

It doesn’t. Ergo, Dems get killed in 2010 because their dream leader is a total bust.

BO will go down in history as one of the worse presidents of at least the last century, if not all time.

for the 2010 Senate elections based on snap-back.

BUT THAT’S A BAD THING FOR MARKOS!

The 2010 cycle follows a +4 pickup for Republicans in 2004. Before the Dems self-immolated, the mid-term Senate election was looking to be an away game for Republicans. Too bad the Dems turned themselves into the Washington Generals and made the defense of 2004 pickups completely inconsequential.

The snap-backs from 2006 & 2008 you ask? The Dems picked up +6 in 2006 and +8 in 2008. All things being equal–they never are–those cycles are home games for the Good Guys.
