Good Newt Strikes Again

The Man Talks A Good Game

The battle for position as the more conservative alternative to Mitt Romney is a classic showdown of words vs deeds, and it is the deeds of Rick Perry and Newt Gingrich that have led me to support Perry.

But there’s no arguing Newt’s way with words. Enjoy this one from yesterday in New Hampshire, which is full of win on so many levels. For a measure of how good a public speaker Newt is, consider how many laugh lines he gets in a typical appearance. Humor is such a devastating weapon in politics. Aspiring Republican leaders could learn a lot from watching how he does it. It’s just plain fun to watch.

Humor, ridicule. It will be devestating when used against obama. obama will crumble because he is 100x thin skinned as Romney.

Gingrich doubles down and calls out the pansy Romney to back up his attack ads face to face.

In Virginia on Wednesday, the former Georgia congressman again challenged Romney to a 90-minute face-to-face discussion in Iowa — “anywhere, anytime,” he said to applause from the crowd. “We will bring all of his negative ads and show them for free and he can explain them. And we will find out tomorrow whether he likes the ‘heat’ and whether he wants to come to the kitchen or whether, in fact, he’s just another normal, national politician.”

Secondly, Gingrich weighs in on the payroll tax cut.

    guess what Romney said?

“Romney also is continuing to distance himself from the Washington standoff over the payroll tax-cut extension. He suggests it’s not the place of presidential candidates to weigh in. And he says that doing so would simply complicate the situation ” -AP

Can this man make a decision on anything? Is this above his pay grade?

Romney sounds as though he has a team of researchers doing his work for him, and he summarizes it. This is just my observation and opinion. It could be why he chokes a little and cannot clearly convey what he is trying to say. I get very frustrated trying to understand what the hell he is talking about. Ive heard him numerous times answer a question WITH ANOTHER TOPIC and then explain HIS TOPIC, and by this time everyones sitting on their thumb because they cant peice together all the noise that came out. This leaves me SO pissed off and confused.

Newt seems to have a passion for history. It is what make him sound so knowlegeable. When you hear Newt speak, he answers the damn question. If he brings up another topic, it is to back up his point!!!!!!! holy crap its refreshing to hear this happen.

Both candidates are qualified, I would be ok with either (thats not saying much). As for Newts background, we know, EVERYONE HAS DIRT. We just don’t know Romney’s, or at least I personally don’t.

I do favor Newt for these reasons. I just dont think I can keep my nerve listening to Romney fumble try to explain his point and allow DuhBumma to sneak away by using a one liner on his mess of an answer.

      apologies for some typos

Newt usually gets more crap for answering the actual questions while other politicians do for dodging them…

…and the “Don’t turn America into Massachusetts” is one hell of a catch phrase. It resonates with the South and middle America in a big way…and let’s face it, once he gets clear of NH and MI, Romney doesn’t have many friends in the primary states to follow..particularly SC and FL

“I’ve challenged Governor Romney to meet me for ninety minutes in Iowa next week, anywhere, anytime,” Gingrich said, speaking to a crowd of about 200 at a public rally in Arlington, Virginia. “Timekeeper. No moderator. And we will bring all of his negative ads and show them for free and he can explain them.”……….

“We’ll find out tomorrow whether he likes the heat and wants to come in the kitchen, or whether he is just another normal national politician with clever consultants and a lot of money and no willingness to stand up and tell the truth,” Gingrich said, of the former Massachusetts governor.

“I’m happy taking the heat, why doesn’t he join me in the kitchen?” Gingrich repeated on Fox News late Wednesday.

But, he argued, “voters need to decided if that want a candidate whose willing to tell the truth of one whose willing to hide behind his millions of dollars.” -CBS news

Romney chickened out and said no to meeting Gingrich face to face to back up his cowardly ads.

Over Perry. I thing Newt has an excellent record of accomplishment as well, but it’s kind of hard to dispute Perry’s record as being the best so far. But Perry just doesn’t have the historical literacy and prowess of Newt. And Newt WILL take it to Obama. Obama may be polling well now, but that will change when Newt begins debating him. And are people literally going to say that after Newt says, “”I have given probably 15000 speeches. I have written 24 books”, that he’s just plain lying?

The issues with Newt are all in the past. What he’s done years ago. Isn’t it time to move on? The issues with Perry are all in the present – his past record is good. But can Perry really take it to Obama? Definitely not to Newt’s level.

    • tritonspolartiger

but your point is, I believe, spot on there, beric.

Perry’s Texas, if spread over the other 56 states, would equal a staggering growth rate – happy days indeed!

I’ve been wondering for weeks if the Tea Party folks would start to rally behind Newt – and then some polling emerged that suggested that such a thing was happening.

My reasoning was threefold: 1) his accomplishments as Speaker in dragging Clinton to the signing table on welfare reform, 2) holding the line on spending in such a way that the economy of the time produced balanced budgets, and 3) the fact that the man FIGHTS, which is something that we all have been looking for (especially in the House) since the 2010 elections, but have been more than a little disappointed (can you say “defund obamacare,” for example?).

I’m just not persuaded that Mitt will actually dig his heels in against the howling wind that’ll be blowing against him from the presstitutes – Newt, on the other hand, takes it to the media and, I believe, would take it to Lord Zero in a way that O simply couldn’t handle.

I’m not particularly concerned about Iowa or NH – the momentum will come from SC and FL… and at the moment, that seems to favor Newt. It’s gonna be interesting in the weeks to come.

Too bad I hail from a Super Tuesday state; the decision might be made by the time I get to vote.

      • beric

And Newt’s not perfect by any means. If Perry’s the clear leader by the time he gets to my state (far later than Super Tuesday), then I’d consider a vote for him instead. But Perry just isn’t catching momentum. He’s far too risky right now, and has some clear disadvantages as a candidate. We can only wait and see.

        • tritonspolartiger

if he was leading by the time the primaries reach me – I do like what I see in the guy, but I believe Newt to be the real fighter here.

Of course, Perry did get in a bit late – maybe his sails are just starting to fill………….

  • Common_Cents

Classic flip flop romney. Newt should start playing these clips in IA.

    • thirstyboots

who whines when he’s victim of attack ads yet uses them against his opponents!

What has this world come to? Stuff like this is certainly unprecedented.
