Pro-Abortion House Dems Solidify Opposition to Conference Report with Stupak Amendment

From the Hill:

“More than 40 lawmakers vowed to oppose the final healthcare bill if the House language on abortion is not removed.

Reps. Diana DeGette (Colo.) and Louise Slaughter (N.Y.) led the group of Democrats in writing to Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) threatening to withhold support for a final conference report if it strictly prohibits federal funding for abortion services.

“We will not vote for a conference report that contains language that restricts women’s right to choose any further than current law,” reads a draft of the letter. DeGette and Slaughter, who is the chairwoman of the powerful Rules Committee, also wrote President Barack Obama requesting a meeting on the issue next week.”

The pro-abortion Democrats may have two options: a) accept pro-life language prohibiting federal funding of abortions, or b) kill their own health bill.

Anyone else find it oddly fitting...

…that one of the Congresswomen cited in the report is named Slaughter?

There’s pro-choice, then there’s whatever this group of conspirators is.

One can only hope they bring the whole mess down.

It would never happen, but wouldn’t it be nice to see a NYT headline:

It is a dark day in America the house has just passed health care reform bill H.R. 3962. This is a direct infringement on our liberties. The congress men and women that Voted for this bill are not freedom loving Americans. Take for instance the turn coat Repubican Joseph Cao he needs to be defeated in 2010 along with his Anti Free Market buddies the Democrats… Go to the link to read the rest of the Article and Join Me in the Fight for 2010!

Call it like it is, Louise. You support taxpayer-funded MURDER of innocents.

Government cannot be the solution when government is the problem.

Has anyone asked her why she voted for the House bill?

Kyle-MI Wednesday, November 11th at 12:24AM EST (link)

You know, the bill with the Stupak amendment. Either she is bluffing now, or she was playing cutesy political games then.

I would how Stupak and his Democrat support feel about this?

While I would love to sit back and enjoy the popcorn, this is too important an issue. We need to subtly skillfully egg them on against each other.

Don't worry

NARAL, Emily’s List and Planned Parenthood are not sitting back on this one, they cannot — since they lost big time in the House.

They must win in the Senate or be forced into killing their own pal’s bill.

Well, Stupak got it in at the last minute. It's had some time to stew now.

ciscoguy Wednesday, November 11th at 1:21AM EST (link)

Let’s hope they stick to their bloodthirsty principles for the sake of defeating this bill.

I would just love to ask them 2 questions:

1) Why should it be necessary that anyone who opts for preferred coverage must also pay for others abortions?

2) Why can’t people just get their abortion coverage from a private insurer?
(Gee, could it have anything to do with their single-payer vision or their desire to kill off minorities and low-income families?)

Stupak was no accident

snowshooze Wednesday, November 11th at 2:13AM EST (link)

Stupak is an amendmendment sponsored by Democrats for Democrats.
Anyone dumb enough to vote for health care reform based on this bait and switch tactic is certainly too dumb to represent me.
Let the Democrats have their abortions…right? soon they will die out.
Even I cannot choke that down.
Either way, the Democrats put this in merely as bait.
They think the sanctity of life could be played against me as a political card to get me to try to protect the lives of the unborne…at any cost.
Unfortunantly…it might work.
I am no baby killer.
And even I do not know how far I might go to save Gods promise and the future of the world.
But rather than play into their hands, we have many options.
The first, easiest and most effective…is just to say no.
No health care reform as outlined by the Democrats in the House bill.
No rush to judgment.
No Obamacare at all.
And after they get over it, well, we can begin a systematic overhaul of health care regulations from the bottom up, and over time that will ultimately cut costs and liabilities to bring some meaningful change.
There is no Saturday night emergency. Honorable legislation is not passed by the cover of darkness.

It was a figleaf and was always intended to fall off

Once it served its purpose.

Hey Pro-Abortion Letter Writing Democrats:

Prohibiting federal funding no more restricts your imaginary “right” to an abortion than it does your actual right to own a firearm. The only thing is you pay for it, not me.

may have two options…except in politics, there is rarely two options. Call me cynical, but I predict a “compromise” that will allow pro-life AND pro-abortion democrats to “vote their conscience.”

I’m hoping the bill doesn’t get that far!

I start with the premise that NO ONE has a right to my Life, Liberty, or Property. Beyond that I’m open to discussion.

This is all show, Kabuki Theatre, the goal is not abortion on demand, or helping uninsured. The dems know where the money is.

This is a dance. They know once government healthcare is in place, in a year, or two years or maybe the next day, the abortion can be added. Maybe a little at a time, but it will be added.

Watching the Dems play with the Republicans is like watching a boa twist around a rabbit. The rabbit can struggle, but sooner or later, it is dinner.

You're right.

mikedaire Wednesday, November 11th at 10:28AM EST (link)

If the pro-abortion forces were serious and principled in their belief, the house version of the bill would have failed. It didn’t because taking over 1/6th of the American economy and control over every one’s life is more important to them than abortion. They also believe that this and future congresses will weaken any prohibitions. The abortion issue was a red herring thrown into the mix to misdirect the attention of the masses. It was a cold political calculation by Pelosi to distract the Republicans and it worked.

Louise "Slaughter" wants prolific abortion. How apropos.

No text needed.

“Both of our political parties, at least the honest portion of them, agree conscientiously in the same object—the public good; but they differ essentially in what they deem the means of promoting that good. One side believes it best done by one composition of the governing powers; the other, by a different one. One fears most the ignorance of the people; the other, the selfishness of rulers independent of them. Which is right, time and experience will prove.”.Thomas Jefferson
