The Buying of Mary Landrieu

HOE-HOE-HOE, oh, it’s not Christmas — yet. But Harry Reid is playing the sit-on-my-lap-Santa to lap-dog Senator Mary Landrieu, with a $100 million surprise. (They look so cute.)

Why not buy Senator Landrieu for $100 million, since the United States is electronically creating $1 trillion a year to finance our debt, what’s another $100 million?

When the crash comes, this is will be Exhibit A of how the Democrats do not care about your tax money, how they are greedy and irresponsible with public monies and why they cannot be trusted with their hands on the U.S. currency printing press. They cannot say no. They keep spending and spending and spending and they will never stop.

Aside from the moral and financial implications of this sorid tale — the politics of it make little sense.

(Here is the let me get this straight moment:) giving Mary Landrieu $100 million for Medicaid (the Federal and State funded program to provide health care to the low-income) will help her politically because (please take the multiple choice quiz below):

a) Medicaid voters will have voted against her in the 2010 mid-term election, this will help with that wavering constituency;

b) Medicaid voters make up the independents and moderate Democrats and Republican voters who oppose the health bill;

c) Medicaid voters who left the state after Katrina by the hundreds of thousands, have moved back to Louisiana;

d) None of the above.

And the answer is d), none of the above.

This $100 million is the cover story for her yes vote, and she will no longer be a U.S. Senator, since the demographics of Louisiana have changed so profoundly, and the vast majority of voters who have left are Democrats.

The prayers of her Republican opponent have been answered — she is going to vote YES.

Good-bye Senator Landrieu.

but only for now. I just finished emailing Landrieu’s office (for all the good it will do). At the moment, I’m too angry to be remotely polite on the phone. But I’ve had it. I have never actively campaigned against someone in my life, never gave money to conservative candidates outside my own state, but I plan to do both during the next campaign season.

    Seeing red. Really.

  • cajun_mike

I was born and raised in Louisiana and own a small business here. I have emailed her six times in the last 24 hours and sent a fax with big bold type on it. She has five phone numbers including her regional offices in Louisiana and every one of them has been busy since yesterday.

Not only is she getting greased by Harry Reid but she’s also trying to help her Nevada friend out herself.

Here is this mornings headline on the deadpelican.com which is a Louisiana version of Drudge.

      her at the polls.

100 Million is a drop in the bucket. They will burn through that money faster than locusts at a wheat harvest. The devestation this “reform” will bring will mean TRILLIONS lost in jobs & wealth.

You thought the housing bubble bursting was bad…just wait.

Landrieu will lose no matter what she brings back as a bone.

It will take a miracle on the order of a 2nd coming to undo the damage these socialists are doing….

At what point to do you say the US had a good run…time to start over?

  • Husker

I have no idea what his price was, but it must have been big.
Looks like I will have to make good on my threat to make it my mission in life to help his opponent defeat him in 2012.

    • justinian

It seemed to me he was just posturing.

The only reason you demand to see the bill is because you’re going to vote for it, and you want to look more important. I don’t see him demanding to see a bill, getting it, and then voting against.

      • Dan Perrin

his moderate image and stand up guy thing is TOAST if he votes yes on cloture on the motion to proceed.

        • Husker

The $500 billion in Medicare cuts will be a large stone hung around his neck during his re-election challenge in 2012.

By 2020, Nebraska’s seasoned citizen population (last census in 2002 was 17.3%) is projected to grow to 25% of the state’s population, and these people vote religiously every election cycle.

To take a chance on passage in my estimation is border lining on political retardation. To think he can somehow get a better bill out of this travesty shows there’s no fool like a moderate (insert party here) fool.

  • justinian

The NPR article I read had her arguing strongly for fiscal responsibility, and I thought she was going to vote against the health care bill in the Senate.

That said, I think it is extremely arrogant to suggest she’s done for. Redstate and Townhall confidently told me that the health care bills would not pass the House or the Senate. Well, it passed the House, and now it looks like it’s going to pass the Senate.

There is plenty of time for Landrieu to cover up for a vote on health care, unfortunately.

    • Dan Perrin

say just want they think we want to hear and then do what they are told by Reid and the White House.

  • unfatmatt

    should be recalled.

I believe Louisiana is one of the few States which allow recall of U.S. Senators. She has 5 years left to “serve” until reelection. Maybe we could send her home early.

    • Mayhem

Recall only applies to state officers, when the state constitution allows it.

      • Dan Perrin

        TOTAL RECALL

  • Marcus_Traianus

This is politics as usual for the current Congress- a $100 million here, a $100 million there. They never stop to consider this is the taxpayers money which they are spending like our citizenry is a bottomless trough for their unconstitutional tom-foolery.

The fundamental destruction of our country is being performed against the will of those Congress and the President were elected to serve. In and of itself, that fact alone is cause for voter rebellion.

We shall therefore according begin the assault, first with phone calls or letters, next with protest, beyond that with our votes and finally through legislative and judicial relief. We shall never give up and surrender to this Constitutional extirpation- this usurping of our rights by statists and contemporary tyrants- never.

    • nessa

It’s too good to pass up!

      • Marcus_Traianus

I am happy to share the same intellectual property with everyone since it appears part of the lexicon now (only it’s apparently $300 million that Landrieu sold out for).

Being fairly well-grounded in history it just instantly popped into my head. It seems this was the first use I could find, but frankly that’s immaterial to me.

What is important is that one person who does not represent most of us stole $300 million of our children’s money to help destroy their heallthcare and lower their future quality of life.

        >blockquote>One of the other red-state holdouts, Sen. Mary Landrieu, is on board after the Reid bill was written to include a $100 million payout to her home state — what Republicans are calling “the second Louisiana purchase” (it should be noted that the first one only cost $15 and came with the Mississippi River).

Of course they couldn’t even get the cost of the original Louisiana Purchase right, so it’s no surprise they didn’t attribute the catch phrase to Marcus.

        • Dan Perrin

          to destroy our health care.

          • http://www.ssce.net/Web-Articles/Web-articles-indexed-authors.html#authors-l JLenardDetroit

Dan or Drudge? Or did you both, more or less coincidentally come up with the same thought at about the same time – which is certainly entirely possible, alot of us think alike and are looking for these quotables to put into the lexicon to catch hold and bring attention. As I call them, Caffine! A small dose for the subconcious that eventually helps to wake folks up.

  • crosley

If this health care bill does pass, the one huge upside is you’re going to be throwing out a lot of these Senate Democrat “moderate pretenders” out of the Red States that should have conservative Republicans representing them.

Some of these Senators just don’t get it. They’ve won a few elections, and think they’re invincible. If you’re in a state that goes for the other party by 10-20 points, you don’t antagonize your voters.

States like Arkansas, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Louisiana, Nebraksa, North Carolina, West Virginia, Indiana, etc, they’re going to be throwing these liberal Senators out of office.

Republicans really should have an easy 60 seat majority in the Senate. There are far more red states than there are blue states. There’s about 25 states that goes Republican by double digits every Presidential election. Add up the “red leaning” states, and a few purple states, and we really should have an absolute lock on the Senate.

    • Mayhem

that the “wave” would come in this cycle. 2010 has roughly the same number of GOPs and Democrats running for reelection. In 2012 and 2014, it will be horidly lopsided towards the Democrats, because of their wins in 2006 and 2008. There will be a lot more chances to pick off Dems in the coming years.

      • Dan Perrin

then they are saying that none of them can be trusted, none of them at all.

They are saying we all must go.

    • partyofhellno

I wish I held your optimism. I believe if this thing passes there will be no stopping Cap and Tax, the Copenhagen Treaty, amnesty for illegals and every other diabolical idea they can come up with. The USA will cease to exist as we know it and therefore, no more “elections” — which explains why they could care less that the majority of the American people are against them. The fix is in. Hello New World Order and King obamass!

  • DaveWT4

I’m watching Cavuto’s show right now on Fox News (there’s a fill-in host) and they were talking of course about ObamaReidPelosiCare and the $100 million bribe to Landrieu. The anchor spoke with a Louisiana Tea Party activist, and she made all the good points: it’s just going to create more budget shortfalls when LA doesn’t get it next year. Then, to be fair and balanced the Cavuto stand-in spoke with Democrat strategist Regina Calcaterra. She tried to make the case that this is not a bribe to Landrieu because she “isn’t getting a bridge or building with her name on it, the check is being written to the governor.” That’s right, she is saying this is good for Jindal and is in no way a payoff to Landrieu. What?!?! She seemed to be trying to put the ‘credit’ for the payoff on Jindal. I just don’t understand these people.

and let him know he helped set this up…. while many may look at me cross for mentioning it, it must be recalled that Cao basically sold his Yes in the House for “LA help promises!” Why I mention it is because you’d better be prepared for, and think through responses to, the upcoming Democrat Talking Points they’ll use with their MSM allies to remind everyone of the Cao vote. Best it gets discussed here and folks prepared for the “but he did it” responses we’re going to get from the Left if you mention Landrieu!!! You know any chance the Left gets to keep the “Katrina was Bush and Republicans faults” BS alive they will (rather than the LA corruption diverting any monies that should have gone to/for maintenance and repairs prior to Katrina).

Again, are you ready for the Lefty Talking Points on this?!?!

and with all the “how do you solve a problem like Sarah” going on – I think there can be a “There’s Something About Mary” (not in a good way) joke waiting to be setup in regard to Mary Landrieu;-) lol. Think on that one too.

  • justinian

I suspect Landrieu will have no problem getting reelected… what’s worse is that it doesn’t even matter, the damage will be done.

Is there a single Democrat left who will vote against the bill?

    • Dan Perrin

      to their state.

  • Mayhem

    They’ve all become whores now.

I don’t even think Judas would have caved in for $100M. “Who do they take me for? I cannot be bought for less than $100 BILLION!”

Yep, And Harry Reid is her pimp. Disgusting.

  • banzaibob

    At every event boo her
Boycott any business she or any family members own
    Shun her in society
I think a few marchers in fornt of her house letting the good folks know a prostitute is living in the neighborhood.

that Obamacare would cost TN approximately 1.3 billion. I expect that’s about the same for LA and other comparable states. Give her a break, she reduced LA’s burden to 1.2 billion… that is, if it doesn’t get siphoned off like the levee funds did to build casinos.

    Hey Mary Landrieu –

The world is about to find out if you can be bought. Are you really going to shame yourself, your family, your legacy and your Country by voting for the most horrendous, freedom-stealing EVIL bill to EVER appear in the United States Senate?

Do you have ANY core values or are you just another obama ankle-licker? We are watching. The world is watching. Are you an AMERICAN or are you (like so many others in your party) a POLITICAL WHORE?

She just got reelected last November.

No matter how mad her voters get at her, she’s safe for five more years.

Moreover, she’s a smart politician, with one of (if not the) best names in LA politics. She’ll have lots of help in getting reelected…if she wants to get reelected, that is.

I don’t see where LA voters have much leverage over here, especially on the health care bill.

But, in case they ARE unhappy with her, she just took out a $100 million insurance policy. With our grandchildren’s money.

Seriously…what can we really do to Sen. Landrieu?

  • http://www.carolinapoliticsonline.com Don’t Tase Me Bro

If this kind of thing happened in the private sector it would be bribery and the players involved would be brought up on charges. Why can’t we do the same to elected politicians in Washington D.C.?

Nevada brothel of Harry Reid’s choice. Now we have to wait and find out if Harry gets his “happy ending” at the end of the day, and if the rest of us get screwed without even a kiss.

regarding Medicaid. Hurricanes Katrina & Rita caused an artificial spike in LA’s per capita income because of money received from the Fed & insurance co.
This means LA must come up with matching Medicaid funds (I’ve read as much as 700million dollars)– this is her so called justification for voting to proceed.
Don’t know why she didn’t hold out for more. She could have been an elite
call girl, but was content to be a hamburger whore instead. I do receive her office e-mails. Among the rhetoric she stated the following: “…I feel compelled to comment on an important provision which I included in the Senate bill in order TO HELP GOV. JINDAL address a serious budget shortfall..” Even more interesting was this: “The FIX WAS EXPLICITLY REQUESTED BY GOV. JINDAL UNANIMOUSLY SUPPORTED by our congressional delegation, Democrat and REPUBLICAN. How true is this? I don’t know, but do plan to e-mail Vitter and Rep. Alexander to find out.
