Obama the Patronizing Lecturer, Refusing to Yield and Force on you the Change You Don’t Want

It is difficult to term his state of the union address a speech. It was more like a lecture that combined a chest-beating tone that he is doing the tough work of saving the nation and he expects Congress and the nation to follow him. And it was all made awkward for his audience by his repeated insistence that he does not quit.

His plea for Congress to take another look at his health reform bill seemed weak.

But essentially it was a message to the American public that he is “not going to walk away” and is going impose the change he wants, regardless of what the American people want.

In other words, I am not listening.

I do not think Americans like to be lectured and being told: I am doing what I think is right, regardless of what you want.

It was weird, actually.

Hey Barry, where did you get your money from?

I’ve never seen it happen. I think it is to keep the illusion that that they are impartial and if they stood and clapped for something that would give the appearance of having a partisan opinion.

        He dissed them though.

I am a newbie, but are you serious? I would not vote for John McCain for dogcatcher.

BTW, Dick Armey, the master infiltrator of the Tea Party movement, refuses to go against McCain. (I will not repeat McCain’s monumental failures to uphold the US Constitution here, but y’all know what I’m talking about)

Armey just loves illegal aliens, the “poor little dears”, that knowingly violate US immigration law by illegally crossing our sovereign borders, abuse American taxpayer funded entitlements, take low-skilled jobs from minorities and young workers just entering the job market.

See Armey’s real reason for not supporting Hayworth. Recognize the poser for what he is…

The key word in that sentence is “sometimes.” It was conceived as a response to his current radio ad campaign.

It’s perhaps the best thing that can be said about John, other than, “Thank you for your service.”

And if the bill that ends up on my desk does not meet the test of real reform, I will send it back until we get it right. We’ve got to get it right.”

After he finished his disrepectful lecture about the Supreme Court ruling, Obama made a statement that congress should look into a bill to fix the ruling. Does he not understand that the the ruling dealt with the 1st amendment? Does he think that congress can go into the constitution and throw out that pesky 1st amendment part?

        • rbdwiggins

The First Amendment has been under assault for decades.

SCOTUS has taken a giant step toward its restoration in Citizens United.

It’s up to the people to ensure the task is completed.

    MEMORANDUM

    TO: OBAMA

    FR: THE AMERICAN PEOPLE

    RE: YOU ARE A FRAUD

    1. During the 2008 campaign you promised to solve our economic problems and run clean government

    2. In your 2009 State of the Union you reiterated those promises with specificity

    3. During the first year of you broke those promises, tried to implement a radical agenda and the American People said no

    4. Now, in your 2010 State of the Union you said screw the American People I intend to push forward regardless

    5. Big media whores still do your bidding but you can no longer rely on them because they have become a joke.

    6. The American People no longer trust you. They see you for what you are. Your day of reckoning is at hand.

    • gekster

Your name is on the link line.

  • erod

maybe go more towards the middle. But, he still wants to embrace the radical socialist policies that are still deeply unpopular with the public. I cannot believe he mentioned such unpopular items as cap and trade, HCR and don’t ask don’t tell. If he doesn’t move more towards the center he is going to be a one termer. I hope he keeps fighting his crusade because that means we’ll be getting another POTUS in 2012.

    • rbdwiggins

Well. It worked on the campaign trail…

But that was before the mask slipped.

      • erod

Being from Chicago I know these guys can’t move towards the middle, especially Obama, he is a thin-skinned narcissist who believes he does no wrong and knows what is best for us.

        • rbdwiggins

for most of his life, and then he discovered Chicago-style pay-to-play politics.

His belief system will be shaken and the anger will grow when he discovers that the American people have decided not to play.

Disrespect is not well-tolerated, and I mean that in the most respectful way.

  • supernaturalwitness

I hope he continues to parade his party’s ideals openly; so that, the ignorant masses can’t help but get it.

  • graciegirl

cause he just may be the next POTUS. He will have to do a hell of a job cause it will take two terms to fix this mess and whaever else Obi creates in the next three years. The thought of it!

I just wish it was not decided in Iowa and the next couple. I wish the primaries were all on the same day. Crumby system!

    • Dan Perrin

but I think we will pick the right person

    • Read Chesterton in New Improved Jersey

is that such a system would be manipulated by the media into a sort of electoral cattle chute where whoever is most popular on Day 1 becomes “The Guy.” The left clamors for national primaries because they know their control of the outcomes would only increase because such a campaigning system would be totally at the mercy of the national broadcast media. The system, as it stands is imperfect, but it gives the voters time for rebuttal against the crap storm of leftist media propaganda as candidates must campaign individually from state to state as well as participate in debates.

      • graciegirl

order of the state primaries? I don’t think the best candidate is chosen when the first three or so have so much say… every time.

        • Read Chesterton in New Improved Jersey

Rotate the primaries and the state with the long straw that gets to go first would simply become the new “New Hampshire.” It might boost state pride but would not solve the problem of media bias driving public opinion.

  • sharonmcp

Rasmussen Reports has current polling data on measuring the attitudes of the American people to the SOTU speech.

In his speech, for example, the president called for taxing banks to repay bailouts. Most Americans like the general idea of a tax on large banks to help repay the bailout money. Voters think that only banks that received the bailout should pay the tax though, and 72% believe that other financial institutions like Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac should also pay the tax.

The president presented the $787-billion economic stimulus package as a success story. However, just 35% of voters believe the stimulus plan has helped the economy, while 31% believe it hurt. At this time, 39% are concerned the government will do too little to deal with the economy while 49% fear it will do too much.

Obama said the unpopular bailouts saved the economy. He?s right that they?re unpopular. By a two-to-one margin, voters still believe they were a bad idea. Voters are evenly divided as to whether they helped or hurt the economy in the short-term. However, voters overwhelmingly believe the bailouts are bad for the long-term health of the economy.

The president spoke about small business issues at a time when just 29% of small business owners say conditions for their businesses are getting better. That?s up seven points from a month ago, but 43% still say conditions for their business are getting worse.

On the housing front, just 55% now say buying a home is the best investment a family can make. That?s down from 79% in 2008. The public was way ahead of Treasury officials on dealing with the reality of the mortgage crisis

The president asked Congress to counter the recent Supreme Court ruling on campaign finance. However, public reaction is mixed: 26% agree with the decision, 34% oppose it, and 41% are not sure. Sixty-five percent (65%) also say corporations and unions should be allowed to buy ads to let people know how politicians voted on issues.

Voters still say deficit reduction is the most important priority laid out by the president last February. They also believe it is the presidential priority least likely to be achieved.

The president referenced the Congressional Budget Office analysis that suggested his health care plan would reduce the deficit. However, most Americans don?t believe the numbers. Voters overwhelmingly think the plan’s costs will be higher than projected, and 81% say passage of the plan will likely lead to higher middle class taxes. Sixty-eight percent (68%) say it will increase the deficit

Most voters continue to oppose the proposed health care plan.

Sixty-one percent (61%) now want Congress to drop health care and focus on jobs.

On Afghanistan, the president reaffirmed the strategy he outlined a couple of months ago. Most voters agree with his plan to send more troops in, and a slightly smaller number support his plan to begin withdrawal in 2011. However, few agree with both aspects of the plan.

On Haiti, 74% of voters say the government response has been good or excellent.

Obama said he has cut taxes for 95% of Americans, but nearly half the nation?s voters expect their taxes will go up during the Obama years. Hardly anybody expects their taxes to be cut.

Americans strongly believe that cutting taxes is the best way to create jobs. However, few expect the nation?s elected politicians to follow that route.

The president said he has never been more hopeful about the nation?s future. However, a solid plurality of voters believe that the nation?s best days have come and gone.

    • rbdwiggins
  • Michael Dugas

And ALL 90% were outside the White House with torches and pitchforks clamoring to stop the HCR Bill or else AND he had the power to sign it into law all on his own, I believe he would.
I believe for him this is not about a legacy or how he’s viewed by the history books. After all he is NOT a politician as we have come to know them, no he is an activist with an agenda and he’s dangerous. It’s about forcing his ideology on our country because he knows, or at least believes, that if this Health Care Reform bill were to pass that history would end up being written as he wants it to be by the majority of Sheeple who are then forced to need the government to survive and are too beaten down to raise a stink. In other words the passing of HCR legislation will lead to unstoppable power for the Dems because the financial destitution that will be inflicted on the population will lead to a vast increase in the number of people on the federal dole which will have people forced to vote for those who are keeping them barely fed and clothed. Thus a Democrat majority for decades. And the control they can wield through the connecting of so many aspects of life to health care that even Genghis Khan would be jealous of such power. What you eat, drink, teach your kids……and in the end you know it…politics.
We must watch our representatives every move. Even the new ones we send to replace the old ones. They must be watched and told they are being watched and that we remember what they promised and that they will be held accountable. No more legacy seats in the House or Senate….We the People want those seats to finally represent US.

    • Dan Perrin

I signed an executive order to do it anyway.

How many times do you think we should expect that from him? If that’s how he wants to play the game, just send Congress home and quit wasting more of our money!

He wouldn’t know democracy if it sat on him…what a buffoon

  • wgsampson

I am energized, and Republicans are going to have scores of new recruits in the weeks to come. Because: 1) He is going to push an expensive jobs program. That will only remind the 75% of Americans who think the porkulus was idiotic, that it was a colossal failure. 2) He is going to push Cap-n-Tax. That will destroy jobs throughout the country, but most of all in the (largely conservative) energy producing states. That’s worth a Senator and 6-10 Congressmen. 3) And the cherry on top is Health Reform. Each issue is a loser for them.

If this is the Democrat agenda for the next 6-8 months, things look great – for us. (Unless big government health reform passes).

  • Dan Perrin

by forcing them to do his bidding.

Do you think they are finally getting the picture, he is using them (up)?

    • thurman

The Mass election was a nuclear bomb in the Dem caucus

They ignored the Tea Parties and town hall anger, but as oblivious as they are they couldn’t deny the reality after Mass

I see a widespread revolt in the Senate and with “moderate” dems in the House now

The degree to how vocally Dems came out in the press against HCR and Obama this past week surprised me– they’re trying to send him a message

It’s going to be an entertaining next 10 months, if this last week was any indication

  • discerningconservative

He seems to think he can bully anyone into siding with him. I missed most of the speech, but am watching the replay now. He is attacking everyone and their mother. It’s like this no good POS is looking down his nose right at me. The first person that looks me in the eye and tells me they were impressed with this speech, I’m going to… never mind, that isn’t very nice.

It is rare that a person possesses a case of narcissism as strong as Obamas. It is unfathomable that a majority of Americans voted for this guy. We need to line up the 52 for a good ol’ public flogging.

  • Trelaina

It was kinda like that team meeting you have at work when things aren’t going well. The manager rarely takes the blame…or if he does, it’s minor [nonsense]. He lectures everyone on what has to happen, tries to make it balanced by picking out a few good things that were done, and then sets out his plan to make sure you do it right (ie his way) from now on.

What made the connection for me was his statement that he was going to meet regularly with Congress. He made it sound like they were employees of his not doing their job right and he was stepping in to micromange them.

I hope the Republicans go in there remembering that they are part of a separate but EQUAL branch of government. I also hope they bring their health care plans.

  • pirate55

It would appear Ms. Pelosi will be treating her reddened hands with lotion after too much clapping. It is certainly a wonder with all of that applause her hands did not miss each other once or twice. As for Mr. Biden, he didn’t seem to know when he was supposed to stand up or sit down. The nodding of their collective heads reminded me of bobble heads. As to the rest of the standing ovations by the left, it would seem many a Washington area chiropractor will be busy today!

As to serious consideration of what was said, I find us to continue to be on a most dangerous path which DOES NOT RESPECT the founders intention of SEPARATION OF POWERS. How many closed door meetings such as we have observed between the Executive Branch and the majority party to the exclusion of the right will continue this year?

And if that isn’t enough, lecture and chasten a Supreme Court before the nation! Clearly the Executive Branch would appear to desire control of the remaining two branches of government and we must insist this cannot happen.

    • america1st

Never mind the folly of what this charlatan has foisted on us already or the delusions proposed for the near future, it is clear the narcissistic megalomaniac’s view of his place in government has more in common with those of Lenin and Hitler than with Jefferson or Lincoln.

  • Common_Cents

Obama needs to get out and speak like this SOTU more in 2010 as he indicated. He said earlier he needs to “speak TO” the people. Not have a discussion or listen, but SPEAK TO.

The more he does this year the more people will wake up to this monstrosity and fraudulent embarrassment in the White House.

I’m predicting we’ll see a “I want my vote back” backlash. Hey, wonder if that domain is available?!

    OBAMA: LYING UPDATE

After a year of broken promises he gets a ?pass? on we now have the brazen lie about his new budget. Mainly, its always about how its never the fault of his administration or his socialist political party that controls the money?pleeeease.
Since the Obama new budget puts US 1.6 trillion in debt he is blaming Bush?Obama voted for ALL spending bills since 2005?Obama?s socialist party has run congress since Jan. 2007?3 complete years (not one)!
Just keep lying?12% raise in HIS budget HE signed last December was not mentioned either. Gee, I wonder why?
Okay boss, give me a 12% raise then freeze 12% of my salary. Sweet deal if you can get away with it like Obama does.
The bottom line is 4x the debt and 2x the jobless in a year. DO THE MATH.
Did I mention this budget drops the Bush tax cuts (aka raises taxes)?
The next phase of crybaby J. Carter Obama is alarm at HIS debt then lay a ton of taxes down on US.
This will prolong HIS recession. Like he cares.
