The Dem-only, GOP stiff-arm that the Trillion dollar President has been treating the nation to for the last year on health care is supposed to go away in one televised meeting. After forcing the end of the only bi-partisan process in Congress and insisting that Congress go the Dem-only route — here are the 19 things the Trillion dollar President is really asking the GOP to help him do:
1) Please won’t you help us spend $2.5 trillion we don’t have?
2) Please won’t you join us in enraging the independent voters and your base?
3) Please won’t you believe that if I will agree with any of your policies, I can get Senator Reid and the Speaker to enact it?
4) Please help me take over the health care industry?
5) Please help me feel better about my repeated violations of my transparency campaign promises, hence, appearing on TV today?
6) Please help me out of this wheel-chair I’ve put myself in, after I broke my own back on health care reform?
7) Please help me appear as if I am listening to you and the American people?
8 ) Please help me force employers drop their employee health benefit and force workers into the government run health care system — er, exchange?
9) Please, please help me fund abortions with taxpayer dollars?
10) Please help me give illegals health benefits, paid for by citizens?
11) Please help me tax health insurance premiums, but not for my pals, the unions?
12) Please help me set up an “exchange” to control all aspects of every health insurance policy we will let an insurer sell?
13) Please help me cut Medicare by half a trillion dollars, and use it to fund the destruction of our health care system?
14) Please help me force every American to buy health insurance — whether they can afford it or not?
15) Please help me pay for my government take over of health care by taxing the young and the married?
16) Please help me empower the Secretary of HHS to put restrictions on Health Savings Accounts?
17) Please help me create a health care database that tracks gun ownership?
18) Please help me put the government in charge of rationing care?
19) Please help me feed the moral arrogance of Democrats by allowing me to lecture you and the American people on health care one more time?
In these situations, after being pilloried, ignored and attacked by the President, who now says he wants to talk to Republicans in front of the cameras, “You just don’t get it, do you Mr. President?” is not an unreasonable response.
But really, it is a last gasp of desperation on the part of the White House, where the next verse will be — see, we tried to work with the Republicans and they just said no — just what the American public wants.

Section9 Monday, February 8th at 7:35AM EST (link)I have memories of Bush the Elder’s cave-in at Andrews Air Force Base.
Beltway Republicans always cave in the name of “bipartisanship”. Obama believes he can make them look bad on television, and he’s right.
NEVER trust the Beltway GOP to put the hearse in the right place in a two-car funeral, especially when they’ve got the date of the funeral wrong.

fpete13527 Monday, February 8th at 9:22AM EST (link)I remember elder Bush cave also… It was pitiful. Concessions enabled Clinton to drive a train through them when he got in.
Public is still not clear that Obama has 100% commitment to destroy country and empower radical socialism and communism. They don’t believe his underlying intent is to destroy U.S. capitalism. GOP is still incapable and unwilling to show dynamic tenacious fight. Until public is more clear about Obama’s true intentions, he will mop the floor with GOP and the State Run media will report full positives for O and full negatives for Republicans.
If Obama is willing to start from scratch, start the meetings…..if not let him talk to himself….which is all that he doses anyway. He already demonstrated what a “bipartisan” session means is to him. For him it is a chance to talk “at” Republicans with arrogant sermons filled with distortion and lies.
Let Obama talk to himself until he demonstrates he is willing to kill the current Dem. HC bill and start completely over.
If he is willing to listen then he should not talk

No Obamacare might be his last 2012 nail
wea1209 Monday, February 8th at 12:51PM EST (link)I can’t imagine B. Hussein Obama even getting through the 2012 primary if he doesn’t enact some kind of Obamacare. Obama praising a Health Care bill written exclusively by Republicans would give him a better chance of winning the 2012 Democratic Primary than getting no Health Care bill. He’s bet his reputation on it and has to have something to save face. So, all of a sudden, he’s Mr. Reach Across the Aisle. Finally! The first thing he’s done that’s actually TRANSPARENT.

If it's obvious to us,
Matt In The Hook Monday, February 8th at 9:12AM EST (link)It should be obvious to the GOP leadership. I don’t think there’s a way to simply not show up. So our guys do need to attend this thing and lay out our argument.
That said, I think it would be disastrous if our side showed up a) unprepared and/or b) assuming that Obama and the Dems are actually willing to negotiate. This is simply an attempt to paint our arguments and plans as Obama put it during the House leadership conference, that “don’t stand up to the test” of working in reality. He genuinely believes that all he has to do is stand there, listen to our side’s arguments and then sweep them away saying “well that’s great in theory but it will never work. Thanks for playing, now vote for our plan.” We might get a token gesture of tort reform or something, but that’s it.
Frankly, neither side is arguing in good faith because both sides are certain that passing even a small amount of the opposition’s plans would be catastrophic. I know that’s what I believe about anything the Dems have proposed so far, save for the health insurance exchange which makes some sense but should be modified to the GOP plan of allowing EVERYONE to buy insurance across state lines, not just those who can’t get insurance at work. So when you have two sides firmly dug in trench warfare, you can’t get anything done. Of course, that’s fine with me because I don’t want anything that’s been proposed to be done; I’m in favor wiping the employer based health insurance system away entirely.
So our side needs to be prepared for a wholly unfair battle which is actually fair when it comes to the political war in general given that it’s the president’s agenda and his prerogative to try and pass it any way he wants. We should have an arsenal of facts at our disposal but not get sucked in to the dog and pony show that they’re looking for. We can’t be overly “obstructionist” when it comes to language and decorum, but we should stand firm when their side just tries to brush everything aside with sweeping statements.
Not every member of the media is a leftist. Just most of them.

Great post Dan
fpete13527 Monday, February 8th at 10:12AM EST (link)Just watched debate between Andrea Tantaros (I love her) and Bob “Comrade” Beckel on Fox. Tantaros and Fox poll said (43%) absolutely do not conference unless a FULL start from scratch. Only 23% think this bill should move forward.
Tantaros then outlined the key quality points that conservatives have been making about HC reform for the last year. The key, (and this will never change for Dems in current HC form) is that they want it cemented to be government run…..and nothing else matters. Also, the Dems still run the “you don’t want to help people” bogus argument, and “what about the uninsured?” Then they won’t listen to any of the 500 rational, logical solutions for above WITHOUT a socialized medicine bill and they won’t listen to arguments for killing this form of bill and starting again. Then they go into large number of lies and spin again.
This above is a perfect microcosm of what a Obama conference would be like with the GOP….except he would inject volumes of speeches in the middle and drown out all reason and spin acres of webs to try to mess up the GOP…..and…..90% of GOP are not even as tough and dynamic as Tantaros …..on a bad day.
The GOP has logic, reason, and polling on their side and they do not need to defend. They can also say they already have attempted to talk to the President (which they did) and the President he said “no restart”….and he is still saying it.
GOP should absolutely NOT do a HC reform conference until this bill in current form is 100% dead.
Choices
spinoneone Monday, February 8th at 10:22AM EST (link)The GOP has a choice here. Remember, choices have consequences, so choose wisely.
The MSM is going to paint the GOP as “obstructionist” no matter what they decide to do. Knowing that, and knowing that both the GOP base and at least 55% of the independents are against 0’s health care program, why give him the opportunity to say, “I told you so?” Instead, why not put out a, say, ten point HC program that we might be able to support?
My first choice would be for the GOP to say, “Sorry, Mr. President. You have given us the bum’s rush for the last 24 months, so we don’t see any need to help you out at this juncture. ”
The alternative is to say, “Sure. But, first, you have to agree to start again, killing the current monstrosity. It is so gross that we do not believe that it can be repaired and talking about the impossible with you just doesn’t make sense.”
De novo
Dan Perrin Monday, February 8th at 11:51AM EST (link)is the right answer
I agree with
cari Monday, February 8th at 10:38AM EST (link)several of the posters above in that:
1) the Republicans with be characterized as obstructionists with or without attending a meeting (so why go), and
2) they have a chance to appear to be the ones who are really listening to the American people by saying, “let’s postpone healthcare until we address jobs, the economy and the deficit first”.
FInally, several others at the beginning of this thread, I think, reflect the reaction the conservative base will have if the Republicans attend this meeting: distrust- in Obama’s motives, fear- that the Republicans will cave, and anger- that the Republicans will appear even willing to cooperate after being bullied for months. What the base wants is a steel-spined, principled “No thanks. Not now and not with these bills.” If they did that, I would be cheering. No more nerf swords brought to gun fights!
Carl
Dan Perrin Monday, February 8th at 11:55AM EST (link)What you are saying, essentially (I think) is Obama must surrender first, then we talk terms.
Obama is driving his own team and the GOP to distraction by insisting on terms which are that it is his way or the highway, refuses to surrender.
Further, his refusal to surrender causes his team and himself, which he professes not to care about, continuing political losses.
Until someone can make him understand that his political losses are piling up from his stubborness, he will continue to drag the Dems down.
Unfortunately, it's ALL for SHOW!
saul_anuzis Monday, February 8th at 11:53AM EST (link)The Democrats are being hypocritical.
They know that the Republicans have few tools to use when they are in the minority, with no meaningful input or consensus on the process let alone the legislations.
In times like these, the filibuster is one of the few tools the minority has to protect it’s rights.
If the Obama Administration and the Democrats actually wanted to work together…they wouldn’t just create photo-op moments for Republicans and Democrats to talk…they would sit down up front and work on a bipartisan approach.
There is much common ground on healthcare. They should use the “summit” Obama is calling for to find meaning reform a majority of Americans can support…and pass that.
They can make a difference without jamming much of their partisan/liberal agenda down America’s throat.
The politics of blaming Republican on using the filibuster when they won’t involve them in meaning debate and drafting of important legislation is less than sincere.
This televised propaganda ploy is all for show!
