Now That Specter is someone elses problem….

There was a front page diary a few weeks back (http://www.redstate.com/erick/2009/04/22/challenging-john-mccain/) which recomended that everyone should focus on beating Specter in the coming up election and not chalenging McCain so we could better focus our resources.

Now this is no longer a problem.  I think we should now focus on finding a proper replacement for McCain now that Specter is someone elses problem.  Anyone see a problem with this?

Anyone else having problems posting new diaries in Firefox? every time I load up the new diary page in Firefox it gets redirected to a page that only shows a button bar and nothing else. I had to post this diary using Google Chrome.

I did some more digging and finally found the link to the diary in question… http://www.redstate.com/erick/2009/04/22/challenging-john-mccain/

Tried to edit the diary to include the link, but it wouldn’t let me so I guess that means you cant edit diaries.

You need to click on “Create New Diary Entry” and then “Manage” which will bring up a list of your diaries. Clicking on the one you want to edit wil bring up an editing window.

I will have to try again then. I thought that was what I did the last time. Still new here though hopefully I will get used to the setup pretty quick. Thank you for the heads up.

I think now the goal should now be to focus on beating him in the general election instead.

IT would to more to keep the RINO’s in line than trying to primary McCain, in my opinion.

This was dissected here at RedState days ago. Consensus was that Simcox is not theright one to uproot McCain.

IF someone NEVER TRYS we shall NEVER KNOW, who was that who had tenure and MONEY in NC oh yeah it Kay Bailey Hutchinson and where is she today? HOME!

Let’s don’t for one moment believe that just because someone has been in the position for a lifetime that they cannot be beaten most definitely on the Republican side of the aisle!

        • http://andrightlyso.com/ civil_truth

…but I did read what I thought was a consensus that Simcox was highly unlikely to beat McCain and less likely to win the general. Even mbecker, who detests McCaink, couldn’t find any sunshine.

But it is true that you never do know – and that consensus can be wrong.

Who have thought how far the country could have gone down the rabbit hole since November 4th? (Well some of us did, but we were hoping we were wrong.) So things can change very quickly.

It’s sort of the same thing as to why we should run candidates in every race. Who knows if your opponent may drop an easy fly ball. But if you aren’t running on the bases, you can’t take advantage.

From some comments in this diary I now see a couple downsides I didn’t originally contemplate…

            1) We successfully primary McCain but lose in the general
            2) We unsuccessfully primary McCain

now the second outcome is not realy that big of a deal I think… Other than the possibility that money spent might have been better spent.

the first downside could be a real problem though. I guess the real question is: Is it worth losing a R seat if we can get rid of McCain.

I’d like to get rid of McCain no matter what, and id say now that the dems are at 60 losing another seat is not even that huge of a deal anymore.

as McCain’s ill-temper and personal vengeance over Conservative Principles will drive him more to RINOism than ever before. McCain, it seems, is little more than RINO no matter what and going to be more and more with the Democrats in his BI-PARTISANSHIP DISEASED mind anyway.

          • dave_in_atl

            3) McCain pulls a Lieberman and after losing starts his own 3rd party and wins.

If he is likely to get bent out of shape just by being primaried, what do you think the chances of him pulling a Lieberman are?

          • http://www.ssce.net/Web-Articles/Web-articles-indexed-authors.html#authors-l JLenardDetroit

slim…. I still think that McCain thinks most AZ folks are RINO too, or at least significant numbers of them to get him re-elected as long as he likes and for him to set his daughter up to replace him as the next RINO from AZ. I hope the folks in AZ rise up and replace him in the Primary. He might then run as Independent in order to keep the seat (or just out of spite to help cause the Republican candidate to LOSE – either way would be fine in his ill-tempered state).

I know that many here want to keep the RINO McCain in order for it to count toward Republican Majority numbers ASAP. I understand that. I, frankly, think it is time to purge him from the Party no matter what the consequence. I do NOT think that of any/all RINO candidates, but on a stand-alone consideration. RINO in a RED STATE to me makes NO SENSE. Putting up with some RINOs in a BLUE STATE has at least some sense of understanding that they might need to be in order to be elected which is why I am trying to introduce this term: RED DOG – I can/will support MODERATE/LIBERAL standing Republicans, IF they are willing to come and rally to the Republican Party during the times of the key votes they are needed. Classic example, was the Stimulus – a RED DOG would stick with the Party to vote against it out of loyalty and recognition that Conservative base helped get them elected and to stand by us during that hard Party-line voting time! I know that is a tough one to ask, as we so often push “standing on Principles!”

McCain has to go, and I think id have to go as far as saying its worth it to see him go even if a D gets the seat. We can always take it back down the road.

Oh and on an unrelated note I will have to keep “RED DOG” on the tip of my tongue I like it.

just came to me today, and makes sense as it equates with the more real idea of how the Blue-Dog concept has shaken out…. They are NOT principled CONSERVATIVES FIRST, they are clearly DEMOCRAT FIRST and Conservative only when convenient….. I can live with RED DOG (Republican first, Liberal 2nd) Republicans in order to make them more palatable to be elected in Blue States, but not willing to stand for these RINOs (Liberal sell-out when it benefits them, Republican only when it benefits them – they key their is it is only “THEM” that matters).

It just continues to demonstrate, though some CONSERVATIVES have not awakened to the fact, that voting for ANY DEMOCRAT – no matter how “Conservative” they campaign are nothing but FRAUDS to Conservativism and just use Conservative stances to bamboozle their way into Office! We must fight fire with fire…. RED DOG REPUBLICANS that speak Liberal but are loyal to the always more (not always enough) Conservative Republican Party.

We must wake folks up that a Democrat is always a Democrat first, and therefore always going to promote Progressivism and must STOP voting for the supposed “Conservative” Blue-Dogs over ANY REPUBLICAN choice there is.

I know this concept is going to be confusing ()the new RED-DOG moniker part) to some.

PS: I’m also trying to get the “TEApeat” term, that I coined, into the standard lexicon of discussions as we push to have more and more Tea Party events ;-)

I’d welcome your input… I put up a Diary now Red-Dog Republicans vs. RINO (and the Blue-Dog myth)

that come out against McCain and Specter (less an issue now that he did us this favor). Those were the main two of concern, but I will certainly send some funds to ANY even unrealistic challengers to Snowe and Collins (if they espouse to just slightly more Conservative principles or to be loyal to Republican Party line voting – a RED-DOG as I am coining the term)!!!!
