For the Caribean ones, it’s the better part of two grand for the wife and I to get to FL. To leave from the East Coast it’s a two day slog across the Country and the better part of two grand. Of course, for me most of the fare is Juneau to Seattle, these days around $500 unless you have lots of time and do some serious fare shopping. Fare shopping here means catching some kind of promotion on Alaska Airlines since they’re the only one that serves Southeast Alaska. Even if I wanted to take one of the Alaska cruises, I’d have to fly to Seattle then take the ferry or a Horizon flight to Vancouver, since the Jones Act won’t let most of the cruise ships go directly from Seattle to Alaska as they’re not American bottoms.

I cruise a great deal, and this NRO cruise was in line with the costs for the higher end 7 day caribbean cruises. More expensive than Carnival, mind you, but you really don't want to go on Carnival (well, if you like drunken, naked people running through the halls a 3:30 in the morning, maybe you do).

The problem is when the cruise (like the next one) is someplace in Europe, because you need to fly there as well. This one, a lot of people just drove down to Florida.

The problem with the age of the cruisers is, I believe, all about the cost. An NR cruise is about double the cost of a regular cruise. My guess is the average age of the cruisers is way higher than the average age of say, NRO readers.

But I understand where you are coming from. Part of my sensitivity is that my daughter is gay, so homophobic remarks tend to put my teeth on edge the way Cheney reacted to Edwards in the 2004 debate.

But there are quite a few people in the Republican party that do actually believe that racism doesn't exist in the party, and is a fiction invented by the left to justify their own. Maybe the bullet point was a bit too strong, but the incidents were still uncomfortable for me.

I think it is good to look at ourselves honestly.

It is not. I know. I was in the Dem Party for 18 years and have been a human being for 45.

Look at a map of Europe. Ever wonder why the countries are so small? They found reasons to hate other than race.

Dave, there will always be racist comments from some, esp the inebriated IN BOTH PARTIES. It is human. But the race problem in Ameirca is the Dem Party I was in until 2000. They seek to use race to make victim dependents. They use race to base laws upon.

I think the statement you made that there is "still racism in the GOP" makes too much of what you heard and assumes too much of the liberal media big lie about the GOP.

That is my point.

Let me say that it wasn’t a huge problem, but it was noticeable, and was also commented on by one or two on the NR presenters to me over drinks.

Wait until you see the video of Mark Steyn, Jonah Goldberg and Rob Long doing their panel discussion on conservatism and humor. Tears were rolling down everyone’s face, we were laughing so hard. Just got to do the editing, LOL.
