I’ll finish this series with some fun additional items, that didn’t really fit into the serious topics from the first 8 diaries, then a closing thought.

One of the last panel sessions was a discussion of the future of conservatism. Since our drubbing on November 4th, quite a few people have come to the fore to offer their assessment of what needs to be done to advance conservatism in the future. Of course, these “Wizards of Smart” (as Rush calls them) include people with questionable motives, and even dumber proposals. Kathleen | Read More »

Full disclosure, I have been a fan of George Bush for a long time, and I am reluctant to offer criticism of his presidency, even when deserved. I knew this particular session would be difficult for me to listen to personally, but I’m going to try and report in a balanced manner. We will see if I’m successful. The best way to sum up the | Read More »

Two sessions were held to look at the impact Obama will have (or not have) on foreign policy, and an assessment of our enemies. These sessions were very sobering in content and analysis, and caused me to realize that despite our angst and trepidation of the effect Obama will have on our domestic policies and institutions, his most lasting negative impact will likely be felt | Read More »

One of the early panel discussions took a frank look at the bailout and the state of the economy. The panel included Pat Toomey, President of the Club for Growth (and the most recent primary challenger to Arlen Specter) and Mitt Romney. Early in the discussion, Pat Toomey laid down a marker on where he stands on the economy and the bailout. He doesn’t think | Read More »

As you would expect, the role of the Media and Hollywood in this election was a significant topic of discussion. Brent Bozell, founder of the Media Research Center, was one of the panelists and had some interesting analysis of the role of the Media in the election. As you can guess, he was not very impressed:

Let’s take a look at the Election of 2008, why it happened, and what it means to conservatism. Fred Thompson told a joke as a warning to not learn the wrong lesson from this election:

I’m going to begin my detailed discussions with Sarah Palin. During dinner the first night, the conversation quickly turned to Sarah. One of our table mates is from Oregon, and was worried about how the rest of the country felt about her. It seems one of her independent friends had decided not to vote for McCain when Sarah was selected. I expressed my strong opinion | Read More »

(Thanks to Jim Geraghty for the hat tip over at NRO’s Campaign Spot. His summary of the cruise is well worth reading.) This diary is the first in a series of multimedia diaries that I will be posting over the next few days. I’m hoping that I can get my footage edited and up on YouTube before I need to head to Los Angeles on | Read More »
