Obama can’t fill a ballroom, even in Democrat strongholds
By: Dave_in_Fla (Diary) | September 24th at 12:11 PM |
If ever there was a perfect metaphor for the coming wave in November, it was at a recent fundraiser that he headlined in New York City. Gail Sheehy at the Daily Beast provides this delicious vision of the “Most Popular Man in the History of Civilization” unable to fill a 650 seat ballroom in the bastion of liberal elitism. Only after I received four email | Read More »
Checkmate in 8 moves – Why Obama’s Healthcare Bill is Dead
By: Dave_in_Fla (Diary) | July 24th at 11:28 AM |
When playing chess, there often comes a time toward the end of the game when the outcome is preordained, even though the final moves have yet to be made. The positions of the pieces, and the relative strengths between the two sides are such that no combination of moves can prevent one of the players from winning the game. When both of the players are | Read More »
The final 3 weeks of the Obama Presidency
By: Dave_in_Fla (Diary) | July 20th at 10:48 AM |
For those of you that follow me on Twitter (@dave_in_fla), you may have noticed a few snide tweets over the last few weeks about how stupid Obama was to spend his political capital on the stimulus bill. My point (which is difficult to convey in 140 characters) is that all administrations have only so much political capital, and they have to use it while they’ve | Read More »
A single data point telling me Obama is toast
By: Dave_in_Fla (Diary) | September 23rd at 08:25 AM |
I have a long time friend, who is a lifetime Democrat. He and his wife are both San Francisco liberals suffering through living in Red State Florida. We normally don’t discuss politics, but it actually came up yesterday. His comment was that he was unsure who to vote for (are you kidding me?). He was thinking about McCain but was troubled by the Palin pick | Read More »
A theory, based on observation
By: Dave_in_Fla (Diary) | September 19th at 02:19 PM |
Forgive me for offering a completely wild guess about the current state of the presidential race. I tend to notice different threads of data and try to mesh them together into an analysis of how they interrelate to form a cohesive story. Here is my theory. The Obama campaign believes that it is losing
Quick analysis of the MSM’s Palin reaction
By: Dave_in_Fla (Diary) | September 4th at 12:36 PM |
Yes, I am back from a great vacation. I’ll post a non-political summary of my vacation that will make you all green with envy a bit later. But there is a point I want to make about the weekend’s media blood bath trying to destroy Sarah Palin and her family. The level of vitriol and baseless accusations over the last 5 days has been unprecedented. | Read More »
Rasmussen shows energy issue has traction for McCain
By: Dave_in_Fla (Diary) | August 12th at 07:26 AM |
Last Friday, Rasmussen release a report that hasn’t garnered much attention on the blogs. In this report, Rasmussen found that a substantial majority of the respondants believe that increased production is more important, and that 67% believe McCain, not Obama, shares that view. Here is the key paragraph: By substantial margins, voters believe that McCain’s top priority is finding new sources of energy while Obama | Read More »
So I’m watching the fireworks at Disney World
By: Dave_in_Fla (Diary) | August 7th at 11:27 PM |
I’m sitting watching the fireworks at Disney World when my son calls. He tells me that Obama just picked Hillary for VP. After a momentary shock, I realize I’m not surprised. I tell him that. I also tell him that it will probably be enough for Obama to win. To my credit I don’t immediately check Redstate. Instead I watch the rest of the show | Read More »
Like his speeches, Barack’s commercials suck
By: Dave_in_Fla (Diary) | August 5th at 08:15 AM |
Last night I finally had to sit through one of Obama’s commercials running in Florida. Here is the flow of the ad: Opening scene – Picture of a gas pump with prices over $4.50 [Actually a picture from California, Floridians have never seen prices that high] Announcer – We are in a crisis of energy Next scene – Picture of John McCain walking out of | Read More »
McCain could be in serious trouble
By: Dave_in_Fla (Diary) | August 3rd at 08:00 PM |
I’ve been delighted with everyone else to see the strong ad campaign McCain has unleashed, and its effectiveness. It has been great and worked better than we could have hoped. Perhaps too well.
Rassmussen confirms Obama is in trouble
By: Dave_in_Fla (Diary) | July 31st at 04:31 PM |
Today’s daily Rassmussen tracking poll shows that Obama has the slightest of edges, well inside the margin of error, and has dropped a point or two from Monday. Obama leads 45% to 43%, or 48% to 46% when including leaners. This confirms the trend noted by Gallup, where the “Berlin Bounce” has disappeared in less than a week. But there is a really interesting statistic | Read More »
Obama’s speeches aren’t very good
By: Dave_in_Fla (Diary) | July 26th at 09:31 AM |
I’ve listened to quite a bit of Obama’s Berlin speech (some parts of it over and over), and I’m going to flat out disagree with the media and pundits claiming that he is a great orator. I do a fair bit of speaking in front of the public, and have been a fan of some of the better speeches over the years. If this is | Read More »
Question for RSers on McCain strategy
By: Dave_in_Fla (Diary) | July 22nd at 11:58 AM |
I was finally catching up with Rush on my podcasts, and was listening to his campaign advice to McCain yesterday. He was saying McCain should be giving speeches this week from oil platforms and power plants.
