State Religious Freedom Initiatives: Some Thoughts
By: davenj1 (Diary) | June 13th at 08:13 AM |
Last night, the voters of North Dakota shot down an amendment to their state constitution in a vote that was not as close as many prognosticators predicted. In fact, a similar measure failed to get the required signatures for placement on the ballot in 2010 and just barely got enough signatures this time around. To read some liberal blogs and the ACLU, one would think | Read More »
Seizing the “Education Vote”
By: davenj1 (Diary) | June 12th at 02:25 AM |
Recently, POLITICO ran no less than five articles from the likes of Arne Duncan, Lamar Alexander and others regarding education. This is one topic that has not been debated in the national media by Obama or Romney except when it comes to extending low rates for student loans set to expire at the end of June. Even there, debate is lacking in that both agree | Read More »
Supreme Court Denies Detainee Appeals
By: davenj1 (Diary) | June 11th at 12:35 PM |
This morning, in a brief session, the Supreme Court released a single opinion, granted two cases for argument next term and turned down seven different appeals by terrorist detainees being held at Guantanamo. As I mentioned in a previous post, most of this litigation stemmed from the Court’s decision in Boumediene v. Bush where detainees were granted habeas rights. Then, the Court stated that it | Read More »
The Disturbing Trends Series- Part 4 : Caring More About Your Mastercard Transaction and Less About Voter ID
By: davenj1 (Diary) | June 10th at 11:32 AM |
Of all the issues that really disturb me, it is the opposition to voter ID laws by liberals, Democrats, the Holder Justice Department and civil rights groups. While we theoretically require someone to present ID in order to obtain money on a credit card or a host of other transactions concededly less important than voting, the blanket opposition to these laws confounds the bounds of | Read More »

Now that the June 5th primaries are completed and the Wisconsin recall election is a thing of the past, it is time to look at the upcoming primaries now through the end of July. On June 12th, Arkansas will hold a runoff election for the Democrats to see who will lose to the Republican candidate, Thomas Cotton, in November: Gene Jeffrees or Byrum Hearst. This | Read More »
Tuesday’s Primary Post Mortem
By: davenj1 (Diary) | June 7th at 05:19 PM |
On Tuesday, besides the Wisconsin recall effort, six other states held primary elections not only for President, but to determine Congressional and Senate match ups come November. Considering that Obama will face off against Romney because he has the nomination for the GOP, turn out was not particularly high in any state except Wisconsin, but other offices than Governor were not being decided. Wisconsin’s primary | Read More »
Will Supreme Court Hear Guantanamo Cases?
By: davenj1 (Diary) | June 7th at 02:25 AM |
Today, at their weekly conference, the Court will again be presented with the opportunity to take up a series of cases regarding detainees at Guantanamo, and a related terrorism case. Other than Obama’s fist pumping regarding recent victories in the war on terror- despite this Administration denying reality and dropping the “war” moniker- we do not hear too much about terrorism. With the economy dominating | Read More »
The Disturbing Trend Series- Part 3:The Voting Rights Act of 1965 Penalizes for the Sins of the Past
By: davenj1 (Diary) | June 5th at 11:04 PM |
Recent reports out of some websites indicate that the Justice Department under Eric Holder and Barack Obama is under orders to vigorously defend the Voting Rights Act of 1965 from challenges. This extends from redistricting considerations to voter ID laws, especially the latter. The ostensible reason behind their opposition to voter ID laws is that they disenfranchise minorities, students, and seniors. Voter ID laws per | Read More »
Today’s Primaries in a Nutshell
By: davenj1 (Diary) | June 5th at 02:21 AM |
Besides the granddaddy of them all- the Wisconsin Governor recall election (discussed below)- six states will be holding primaries to determine candidates for Senate and Congressional seats. The following is a listing of interesting races in these states and the stakes for November. Lets start in California. There is no doubt that whoever emerges from the very crowded GOP field for Senate, they will lose | Read More »
The Disturbing Trend Series- Part 2: Liberal Attempts to Undermine Citizen’s United
By: davenj1 (Diary) | June 3rd at 11:39 AM |
Probably no recent decision has been in the craw of Liberals more than the Citizen’s United decision. Besides leading to an ill-informed State of the Union rant by Obama to the faces of the Supreme Court, the law is alleged to have opened the flood of money into the electoral process. Since that decision, lower courts have generally expanded upon the findings of Citizen’s United | Read More »
