Shame on the RNC and Shame On Liberals
By: davenj1 (Diary) | March 30th at 03:59 PM |
The Liberal press and blogosphere is absolutely insane over the recent Obamacare oral arguments before the Supreme Court. Apparently a day to digest the argument has given them enough time to conjure up enough vitriol to make a Spike Lee tweet look trivial. On one article on DailyKos, the writer used the term “radical” to describe the Supreme Court ten times in five paragraphs indicating | Read More »
What is Next for the Court?
By: davenj1 (Diary) | March 29th at 11:17 AM |
Essentially, very little is left for the Supreme Court although they still have one major oral argument in April. After their conference this Friday where they likely will take initial tallies in the health care cases, they will adjourn officially and have no court business until April 13 when they will again conference and decide on whether to grant, hold, or dismiss more cases for | Read More »
Guns, Laws and Commonsense: Part 1
By: davenj1 (Diary) | March 29th at 08:52 AM |
After every major instance when someone is shot and killed using a gun, why must Liberals go running for the microphone and cart out their mantra and pleas for gun control? We heard it after Columbine and after the Giffords incident and we are hearing it now regarding the Trayvon Martin killing (along with concealed carry and stand your ground laws). In this case, we | Read More »
After Three Days, Five Things Of Interest
By: davenj1 (Diary) | March 29th at 12:33 AM |
The Supreme Court has completed three days of oral arguments over Obamacare spread over several hours. There is no doubt that there is no shortage of opinions especially after day 2- the mandate question. I think that we can take five things away from this historic moment unfolding before our eyes based upon everything I have read here and elsewhere, conservative and liberal sites and | Read More »
The Strange Case of a New Jersey Strip Search
By: davenj1 (Diary) | March 27th at 08:39 AM |
In October of this term, the US Supreme Court heard arguments in the case of Florence v. Burlington County, NJ, et. al. As of today, they have yet to release an opinion in the case although every other case heard in October has been decided. This clearly indicates that the Justices are having a lot of difficulty with this case and cannot possibly reach a | Read More »
Church and State: Free Exercise
By: davenj1 (Diary) | March 25th at 05:01 PM |
The main controversy over the Free Exercise of Religion clause of the First Amendment is how narrow or broad an interpretation is necessary. Here, the plain text of that clause is illuminating. The clause uses the word “exercise.” Today, as in the 1700s, the word infers action. In fact, that great “sacrosanct” Jefferson letter that permeates constitutional thought today specifically agrees with this idea in | Read More »

Why I Will Vote For Romney
By: davenj1 (Diary) | March 25th at 04:18 PM |
From the many comments and editorials here and elsewhere, the probable nominee, Mitt Romney, has failed the conservative litmus test…whatever that is. He has been lumped into the great depository of the RINOs and no amount of convincing by him or others is going to change anyone’s mind. For many, his rhetoric on the campaign on the campaign trail in 2011-2012 does not match his | Read More »
Church and State: The Establishment Clause
By: davenj1 (Diary) | March 25th at 11:11 AM |
How many times have we heard the phrase “separation of church and state” or “a wall of separation?” How many would be surprised to learn that nowhere in the United States Constitution is the phrase used? How many would be surprised to learn the phrase is from a letter written by Thomas Jefferson, a man who was not involved in the writing of the Constitution? | Read More »
Around the Circuits: Interesting Cases
By: davenj1 (Diary) | March 24th at 01:48 PM |
In an effort to keep RedState readers updated regarding court cases in the eleven circuit courts of appeal (I am not including the DC Circuit) that may eventually reach the Supreme Court, or that touch upon issues near and dear to conservatives, I thought it worthy to briefly discuss, by circuit, some cases. I will probably do this every three months in an effort to | Read More »
