Happy Halloween from a corner of VA-11
By: ddstrain (Diary) | October 31st at 07:15 PM |
We cross the border from VA-8 to VA-11 so the kids can trick or treat with their classmates. Last year the Halloween circuit throught he neighbohood was a lot of Deeds signs, but more McDonnell signs. This year there are much fewer signs of any kind, but Fimian is topping Mr. Dopey ‘Stache. I’m just having fun correcting people as to my costume…. I am | Read More »
VA-8 GOP Candidate Matt Berry pledges to work to repeal Obamacare if elected.
By: ddstrain (Diary) | March 22nd at 01:46 PM |
Question posed by me via Facebook: Do you pledge to work diligently, immediately and continuously to repeal Obamacare should you be elected? Response: Yes I have posed the same question to Patrick Murray the other main GOP candidate. As soon as I receive his answer, I shall post it. Down the road in VA-11, Pat Herrity has distributed an email stating that he will work | Read More »
The Inheritance
By: ddstrain (Diary) | January 28th at 10:41 PM |
I am real tired of the Narcisist in Chief. Everything is about him … EVERYTHING. Well, everything, except those things that require acceptance of responsibility and showing true leadership. Leadership … not egotistical expectations of compliance. Where one would typically expect to find Presidential responsibility, we find something else with this President. I’m not sure what it is called. Narcissism? Megalomania? Sociopathy? Maybe we need | Read More »
VA-11: Pat Herrity announces run against Connolly
By: ddstrain (Diary) | January 13th at 08:37 PM |
Today Fairfax County Supervisor Pat Herrity announced that he is in the race against freshman Dem Gerry Connolly. See Pat’s web site here. We now have two good candidates on the GOP side, with Keith Fimian announcing earlier. See Keith’s web site here. Both of these guys are solid. I hope they keep the primary focused on DEFEATING CONNOLLY. Just about a year ago Pat came within | Read More »
UPDATE 5: POLLS OPEN IN VIRGINIA!! A Blog from the Polls
By: ddstrain (Diary) | November 3rd at 05:30 PM |
I’ll be wortking the polls later today in Eastern Fairfax.County. I swung by the precinct before running errands.A few quick observations: 1. Dramatically lower early morning voting. In the Obama-McCain election there was a line of several hundred people waiting as the doors opened at 6am. Today I hear there were 4 in line. Yes…four. There were about 20 through the doors in the first | Read More »
UPDATE3: VA Polling Trends and Possible GOP House Gains News Summary
By: ddstrain (Diary) | November 2nd at 11:16 PM |
This has updated a bit since I posted the other day. Not trying to be too optimistic, but this could be very bad for the Democrats…especially if the strong shift to McDonnell translates down to the House of Delegates races. Currently the House is 53 GOP, 43 Dem, 2 Ind, 2 vacant. The left leaning blog Not Larry Sabato is forecasting what appears to be | Read More »
Bob McDonnell’s coat tails … Virginia Down-ticket in Fairfax County
By: ddstrain (Diary) | October 30th at 10:27 PM |
The national news is focusing on the McDonnell-Deeds race for governor in Virginia. This is the nicest representation of the polling trends I’ve seen so far … I note the late tailing off for Deeds. If the embedded gizmo doesn’t work, go to Pollster.com to see it. But here is some polling info on the Lt. Governor (Bolling v. Wagner) and AG (Cuccinelli v. Shannon) races | Read More »
Northern Virginia News: “… the money has dried up …”
By: ddstrain (Diary) | October 23rd at 09:18 PM |
Tonight was a Halloween fun fair/PTA fundraiser at the elementary school. The halls are bustling with hundreds parents and kids in costume. Apparently Star Wars characters are very popular this year. In any case, as I’m wending my way from the Cake Walk to the Potty Pitch, I overhear a conversation of a political nature in the hall between two parents. They had to speak | Read More »
URGENT: 2009 Election Northern Virginia Get Out The Vote Kickoff
By: ddstrain (Diary) | October 16th at 10:29 PM |
It is the start of the get out the vote effort in Virginia. It is just over 2 weeks to the election. It’s well known that McDonnell, Bolling and Cuccinelli are leading the Democrat opponents in every credible poll. As I’ve noted before the entire House of Delegates is up for election as well. Notwithstanding the polls, we need to keep up the pressure and get | Read More »
The New Glamour Boys of the Cult of Personality
By: ddstrain (Diary) | October 11th at 01:32 AM |
Tonight one of the kids has a friend over for the night. They are hogging the TV with video games, so in order to do something productive, I connected to the office network and started doing some work. When I work at home, I put on my over-priced, capitalist-inspired, noise cancelling headphones and blow out my eardrums, as I am wont to do. Well, I’m | Read More »
VIRGINIA 2009: Meet Jay McConville Candidate for VA-44 House of Delegates
By: ddstrain (Diary) | September 11th at 11:11 PM |
I’ve posted before here about the apparent trend towards GOP candidates in Fairfax County, Virginia since the November 2008 election. In quick recap, the GOP almost took the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors chairmanship in February and did take the Braddock District Supervisor seat in March. Then here, I posted an urgent request for fellow Red Staters to make a donation to the Jay McConville | Read More »
The Sec. 102 “promise” to let you keep your existing health coverage. You didn’t expect them to let you keep it forever, did you?
By: ddstrain (Diary) | July 16th at 02:34 AM |
This was originally a response to Swamp Yankee’s call for people to read the healthcare bill and publicize problems. See Swamp’s orignal post here. I’ll try to look at other portions tomorrow. I’m really interested in the employer mandate to provide coverage; employee mandate to buy coverage and the end of life/hospice language inserted by one of my senators. —– I’ve just read Section 102, which purports | Read More »
URGENT: Virginia 44th House of Delegate race
By: ddstrain (Diary) | June 30th at 10:37 AM |
Promoted from the diaries by Erick. As I mentioned here, the Virginia 44th House of Delegate seat is now AN OPEN SEAT. The sitting multi-term Democrat incumbent has quit the race. I strongly think that the fund raising numbers from last reporting period made the decision for her. This is now one of the, if not the most watched Delegate race in Virginia. WE CAN | Read More »
2009 Virginia Elections: Fairfax County Report Pt. 1, Not as Blue as you Think
By: ddstrain (Diary) | June 27th at 03:04 AM |
This year we have an election in Virginia. Obviously, the national focus is on the three state-wide races. However, I’d like to remind everyone that the Virginia House of Delegates is up for election as well. The Democrats are only a handful of seats away from taking over the House. We can not let that happen. At the June Fairfax County Republican Committee meeting, House | Read More »
Virginia Governor Democratic Primary Race — Write-in McDonnell?
By: ddstrain (Diary) | May 28th at 12:28 AM |
I was thinking of going to cast a vote in the Virginia Democrat gubernatorial primary next week. For the longest time I was thinking of just voting for the one least likely to give McDonnell trouble. So my choice was between: McAuliffe – very annoying, very liberal, very elitist and very much supported by lefties outside of the Commonwealth. I have noticed that his signs have | Read More »

I may be mistaken, but it doesn’t seem that a massive privately funded organization (like George Soros or Moveon.org) funded all these hand made signs. We are the grassroots. Continuing the Tea Party in Fairfax County, VA
By: ddstrain (Diary) | April 16th at 08:31 PM |
Previously I have chronicles my short road to conservative activism here. [That is "a-c-t-i-v-i-s-m" Ms. Napolitano, not "t-e-r-r-o-r-i-s-m".] Yesterday, I attended the DC Tea Party … my first protest rally. Judging from the comments I heard, I was not the only protest novice. Check another thing off of my “getting into conservative activist mode” list. Today I’ve checked off another item. I’ll be joining the Fairfax | Read More »
TEA PARTIES – Northern Virginia
By: ddstrain (Diary) | March 31st at 11:33 PM |
I just learned from James Parmelee at NorthernVirginiaGOP.com that two Tax Day Tea Parties are being organized in Northern Virginia. There are still indicators of an Annandale Tea Party on April 25 here. First, from 5pm to 7pm there will be a Tea Party at the Merrifield Post Office located at 8409 Lee Highway, Fairfax. Go here or here for details. Great idea to hold a Tea Party at | Read More »

Fairfax County Redstater Get Together?
By: ddstrain (Diary) | March 29th at 09:53 PM |
I’m just testing the waters here. I’m pondering the idea of having a good old fashioned back yard barbecue for any Fairfax County Redstaters out there. Maybe try to see if any of our Fairfax GOP elected folks (Pat Herrity, John Cook, Michael Frey) or Fairfax GOP leaders (Anthony Bedell, Doug Jones) or County candidates can swing by. Parking may be a problem, but maybe the Supervisors | Read More »
