UPDATE 5: POLLS OPEN IN VIRGINIA!! A Blog from the Polls

I’ll be wortking the polls later today in Eastern Fairfax.County. I swung by the precinct before running errands.A few quick observations:

1. Dramatically lower early morning voting. In the Obama-McCain election there was a line of several hundred people waiting as the doors opened at 6am. Today I hear there were 4 in line. Yes…four. There were about 20 through the doors in the first 30 min. In this heavy Dem precinct it seems enthusiasm is VERY low… at least in the early AM. Drove past another precinct in an even heavier Dem district and I saw no line and little activity.

2. GOP outside poll workers outnumber Dem outside poll workers 3-2. One of the Dem workers was the mother of a Dem delegate candidate.

I’ll supplement this post periodically throughout the day.

UPDATE 11am

About 20-25% turnout in this heavy Dem district. Usually very high turnout, even in off year.

Very good response to GOP side. If we take 45% in this precinct it is a win.

UPDATE 2 - 12noon
Still a flow in to the polls. Now there is one of me on the GOP side versus 3 to 5 Dems, including a Dem candidate’s wife and mother. They stand and chit-chat. I’m walking to the voters to hand out sample ballots. Several people are happy to get the GOP sheet. Quite a few ask for the GOP sheet.

Overheard one Dem to another “Let’s keep out fingers crossed.”

Update 3 … 12:30pm

Break to get lunch for the GOP pollworkers and head to the local burger joint. Place is a zoo (it’s.a popular spot) and the largest group mulling about was a bunch of college kids in McDonnell shirts carrying RPV totebags.

Definite slackening of the rate. Somewhere around 30% turnout so far I think. 50% to 60% is the norm in off year elections. Will pick up again around 4:30pm.

Stopped at a precinct up the road and they had about 550 voters through in the six hours of 6am to noon. The lone Dem working the polls was the Dem incumbent delegate. He had no helpers. Seems to highlight the enthusiasm gap when the candidate needs to be stuck at one polling station.

Back at the polls greeting voters, getting to them before the Dems workers. Dem workers are all over 60, so we have the face of youth (40ish)

UPDATE 4 - 3:45pm

7 hours in to the poll work. Starting to pick up in number of people. Should get busy around 5.

Some GOP heavy parts of eastern Fairfax have had heavt turnout I hear.

Thids Dem heavy area is seeing GOP turnout of folks we have not seen in awhile. We should hit 50% turnout. Just depends on the mood of the independents.

Overheard one Dem to another “It’s not going to be a good year”.

Call your Virginian friends, relations, colleagues and acquaintances…get them to the polls.

UPDATE 5 - 5:30pm
9 hours outside the polls. Colling down. Still a steady trickle of people. Nearing 900 votes in the precinct, so we’ll end up with about 50-55% turnout in this heavy Dem precinct. Hearing that some of precincts in the 44th District are having disasterous turnout…the Dem precints. I’ve heard as low as 17% from 6am to about 4:30 pm. They may hit 20% there. I suspect the 44th District is moving from Lean Dem to Toss Up. The GOP precincts have seen very good turnout from what I hear.

Also hearing that parts of Arlington are low turnout.

Dreading the post poll closing harvesting of the signs.

MANY people showing preference for the GOP sample ballot.

just back from voting in VA

I am in a very conservative area on the west end of Henrico County. Asked the poll workers how the turnout has been and she said steady. I asked if that meant a lower turnout, and she said no, for our precinct a large turnout. That assessment fits with the experience I have voting there. I am curious to see how these elections will affect the House of Delegates. Perhaps the conservatives are turning out and the dem areas are not? We shall see. I loved voting for Cuccinelli!

Cuccinelli! Yeah. Good Conservative. nt

Rod Patrick- Cuccinelli is

carrying this ticket. Not that McDonnell and Bolling aren’t doing well, but, Cuccinelli is polling with wider margins than McDonnell or Bolling.

I’ve been very excited about Ken from the beginning. Seeing him speak at a rally yesterday was very exciting, and, shaking his hand sent a thrill down my leg LOL. I’m not willing to share him with any other states yet, but, in time he has the charisma, the authenticness, the unappologetic conservative positions, and the enthusiasm to become someone to watch for much higher office in years to come. Just watch what he does for Virginia!

I agree scope. I want him to replace that Obama guy (hate to say the name) someday!

Peace to all True and Loyal Republicans and Conservatives.

This is a very good day for all of us.

Cuccinelli

I not only got to vote for Ken today, he was at my polling location shaking hands when I was passing out the GOP Sample Ballot so I was able to chat with him a little bit.

Can’t remember the last time I voted for all Republicans and didn’t have to write in somebody. It was nice to be able to vote for four solid pro-lifers and three of them (McDonnell, Bolling, Cuccinelli) have an excellent chance to win. My HOD candidate is a good conservative but I live in a communist district represented by Ken Plum (who was also at my polling place today).

Kevin

Kevin. Wow. KenC surely did make your day. Good work, bro. nt

Waking up

I just voted here in central Fairfax County, NoVa. Turnout at 9:30 was good — had to wait for parking space. Heavier turnout was seen this morning and will be seen after 5:00 today.

But ... beware of Dems. They usually vote in pack during the afternoon and always demand for royal service. nt

Forgot. But It's really good for McDonnell.

I really think that Obama’s dissing of Deeds was falsely read by the Dems as “total surrender”.

Reports on the lack of enthusiasm of the Dems for Deeds’s victory are actually creepy.

Working the polls in VA just came home for lunch and back out.

I have been working the polls in Stafford County, VA. For an off year election, the turn out has been quite steady.

The atmosphere between the parties’ workers is friendly and the majority of people are asking or taking the Republican ballot.

A beautiful day and it always thrills me to see people exercise the privilege of the vote. (It just tickles me stupid when they vote Republican. :) )

Back out in a few minutes.

To me, “consensus” seems to be the process of abandoning all beliefs, principles, values and policies. So it is something in which no one believes and to which no one objects … There are still people in my party who believe in “consensus” politics. I regard them as Quislings, as traitors … I mean it. — Margaret Thatcher

Am I the only one who suspects that at least 20% of Rs guys are from VA? nt

Well, no surprise

I voted in the Dem primary against Clinton-buddy Terry McAuliffe, not knowing much about Deeds or his ability to put up a fight.

No idea whether McAuliffe would be a formidable opponent to McDonnell now, but this race seems to be working out well for conservatives. In my American flag draped neighborhood, there are only a few brave souls with Deeds signs on their lawns. We’ll try not to let the champagne corks land on them tonight.

Just got done casting the 4R's in PWC VA, wife too, & neighbor...

DONTREADONME Tuesday, November 3rd at 4:52PM EST (link)

only red sheets walking into the polling places today! I observed three polling places. I went into the one closest to my home and they said I was not registered to vote at that location, luckily the GOP poll watchers asked me if I want them to double check, I said no. I went to county office building and cast my vote, no line, at 4:30; however, everyone coming in was carrying the red ballot not the blue one (yes, anecdotal evidence). Same with springwoods elementary and westridge elementary, no shenanigans in PWC today. Good news.

Lastly, a retired Marine Sgt Major who is black went to the polls today to vote and the Democrat handing out the blue sheets completely assumed he was voting for the “D” that occured in Fredericksburg. He said, “she looked at him, smiled and gave out the sheets to the rest”. Classy democrat assumptions.

The White House has been saying for days these elections are not referendums on Teleprompter Child and the Debtocrats.

ColdWarrior Tuesday, November 3rd at 5:01PM EST (link)

Therefore, expect the Minion Media to NOT ask this question of any voter they might encounter: “Is the way you voted today in any way a referendum on the President and the Democrat-controlled House and Senate and, if so, why?”

Thank you.
