Delaware GOP Chairman Tom Ross Censured

Wednesday night’s Sussex County GOP monthly meeting was packed with expectation, with a standing room only crowd.  News had leaked out that Committeeman Donald Ayotte would introduce a resolution to censure Delaware GOP Chairman Tom Ross.

Mr. Chairman

I make a motion to censure State GOP Chairman, Tom Ross for making inappropriate statements and failing to immediately endorse and fully support a lawfully elected republican candidate for the US Senate,  Inappropriate statements include, “she couldn’t be elected dogcatcher,” when speaking about US Senate Candidate, Christine O’Donnell.  Tom Ross fails to represent the will of the rank and file republicans in Delaware.”

More than a few people seconded the motion, and the crowd broke out into temporary chaos.  After an hour of debate and opinion, the motion was passed by a 95 percent vote.

There were many reasons that O’Donnell lost by 16 percentage points and Tom Ross’ non-support was only one of them.  Many republicans believed that this was inappropriate behavior on the part of the chairman and I was one of them.  We wanted to have proper leadership to lead us into the 2012 election.  We felt we needed a hard-charger to take the lead and rebuild the party.  Like any CEO, when he failed to perform his Job to the satisfaction of those who elected him, his job was on the line.

And when leaders are feckless or betray their organizations, they must be punished and removed from leadership.

  • Donald Ayotte

It wasn’t that Tom Ross is not a nice guy. It just that election politics has become a blood sport and it is warfare at its worst.
Delaware needs a hard-charger to lead and train the committeepersons. We in Sussex County Delaware are willing to train the Republicans in New Castle County, the northern very liberal county. New Castle outnumbers the other two counties put together.
They just elected an admitted Marxist to the US Senate instead of a conservative christian woman. They did an effective Paliniztion on Christine O’Donnell and attempted to destroy her character. They did a fair job at it too and the GOP did nothing to rebut their charges.

  • Donald Ayotte

We have a difficult fight here in Delaware with only about 18 months until the election process starts again. We will face a difficult opponent and we will be prepared. We will have a full arsenal at our command to fight for America and delaware.
Delaware lost the battle but not the war. Sorry America.

Right after a bitter election seems like the worst time to focus on the past.

But while the lessons are fresh in one’s mind may be the ONLY time to understand what could be done better.

Donald, America has a unique ability to say “WELL DONE” at the end of day, and then wake up the next morning and say “YOU KNOW… I WILL BET WE COULD DO BETTER NEXT TIME.

There were MANY serious problems I saw in how the election ran in 2010, totally apart from the candidates.

Ohe of the biggest problems was the DELAWARE MEDIA.

I agree that efforts to break the liberal monopoly on local news is important.

I want to set up a website — which I cannot do alone — www.DelawareNewsCentral.com

Radio in NCC is a good idea, but how to do it?

I posted a lot of my observations about how to run the election better — having nothing to do with the candidates at –

One of the most important issues is that the GOP *cannot* condcut GOP activities right beofre the election.

It would have been better to CANCEL all the neighborhood walks, phone calls, etc. and send the volunteers out to wave igns on the side of the road.

The idea behind all of htis massive work is to IDENTIFY supporters WITHOUT motivating opponents to vote.

Asking people whom they are going to vote for within a month of the eleciton is simply reminding Democrats to vote

During the next 18 monhts, the conservatives need to identify supporters so that those voters can be Q U I E T L Y motiated to go vote, without remidning Democrats to vote.

Each party tries to get its own voters to the polls.

There is no point in doing anything on GOTV if the net effect is to encourage Democrats to vote against us.

So, the entire exercise must be approached by identifying conservative voters months ahead of the actual election.

Unfortunately, this cannot be done by candidate if the primary is on Sept. 14.

I will leave you to figure out — which shoudl be easy — what you do instead.

  • JonMoseley

Why does Delaware have both a convention and a primary?

It sounds like that is a prescription for problems.

Under Virginia law, the GOP chooses between EITHER a Primary or a convention – not both.

Delaware’s system of holding both a convention and a primary seems guaranteed to create problems.

  • Donald Ayotte

This is one of the problems we want to change. Another is having a primary so close to the election on November 2. Our primary is set on September 14 to specifically discourage the idea of primaries. Those that made these laws probably saw it a a way to save money. We have many problems to address in Delaware and we start NOW.

I think he did the right thing. If GOP leaders can undercut GOP candidates and not suffer any consequences for it, they’ll just keep doing it and the party will suffer. Now is the time to purge the backstabbers so they won’t do the same thing next election.

The “media” is nothing more than a third party bystander these days and if a political organization is too stupid to recognize the fact that no media organization in the nation is a friend of the right then they deserve to have their heads handed to them.

The problem is people who are in denial and who wake up every morning expecting “fairness”. The problem is that we don’t have enough media-savvy people who are willing and able to take the fight to them, around them and over them. See Ronald Reagan if you need an example.

  • Donald Ayotte

This resolution was debated in a meeting of about 17 people, most of the committeepersons in the Sussex County GOP well before I drafted the resolution. It was worded carefully and was considered an appropriate response.
As always some disagree but you are correct Finrod, if we let the Chairman get away with this behavior, we will never be able to field a good candidate because of fear on the candidate’s part of character assassination.

  • Donald Ayotte

A sense of Reality has set in with Delaware’s Republican and the thoughts of what the committee should do to restructure our strategy on election politics.
We first need to make the State GOP Chairman Position a PAID position. We need a hard-charging person that can lead a strong-minded committee of “We want to win republicans.”
We need to restructure the northern broken Representative Districts and go on from there.

  • renny

and certainly doesn’t like grass roots movements like the tea parties.

But, we have to convince them that once someone is elected for a nomination BY THE PEOPLE that the leadership LEADS and doesn’t sit back on its haunches and bray that nothing can be done with these unwashed idjits.

  • Donald Ayotte

I am a retired Journalist and worked hard to keep my conservative views a secret, just for the jobs sake.
The mainstream media is not fair, nor are they balanced. The media was only part of O’Donnell’s problem in Delaware.
The NewsJournal, in Wilmington DE, is one of the most “liberal rags,” that exists. I believe that they are attempting to take first place away from “The New York Time,” for being the most liberal rag on record.
The NewsJournal is a Gannett Communications’ publication and they don’t hire or tolerate conservative journalists.
The Delaware GOP leadership and big money endorsers abandoned O’Donnell, paying only lip service to her campaign. I watched the whole thing unfold. They were so angry at Mike Castle’s defeat that they sat idly by and watched as a Marxist was elected to the US Senate and conservative Delawareans will not forget.

  • Donald Ayotte

It’s not just the GOP. Elitists nationwide take challenge from those they consider beneath them badly. Well, I’ve got news, they will take it badly in Delaware but we will eliminate them and restructure our party and win elections.

  • Donald Ayotte

A nation can only be disgraced by the inaction of its citizenry to take action in the face of tyranny.

was media related. It wasn’t, although I do think she got caught off-guard by the national media which is pretty much neither here or there. My comment to Jon was meant to be general in nature.

I used to live in Hockessin, I’m familiar with the NJ. They suck.

You’re doing the Lord’s Work man, thank you and keep up the pressure.

  • earlgrey

It is really cool to see what you have done.

  • Donald Ayotte

We don’t dodge anything and will restructure our party and beat these liberal imbeciles. They denied a great christian conservative candidate and elected an admitted Marxist. We worked our butts off and were betrayed by our party, so we’ve decided to get rid of them. And we will!!!!!!!

  • SirGladiator

Congratulations on passing that Censure motion, certainly the guy deserves to be fired, but censuring is a pretty good first step :) . Keep up the great work, you’re definitely representing not just the Conservatives of Delaware, but all of America, we all agree its time for new Conservative leadership, whether its in Delaware or any other state where the liberal Republicans are still in charge of our Party. Thanks to awesome leaders like yourself, hopefully they won’t be in charge much longer!

  • Donald Ayotte

We are working with people statewide to bring the forum of republican leaders together. We want to reach out to the Hispanic community that are here legally.
People are excited that we will start recruiting efforts to fill the empty seats in th Elective District Chair (precincts) and RD Chair (Representative Districts) positions.
As State Chairman, we need a hard-charger, take command correctly type of person that believe that this change can absolutely happen. This person must be an extreme self-starter that will not get involved in backroom deals and skullduggery.

  • Donald Ayotte

Rumors have leaked that Delaware’s GOP State Chairman has been gathering his forces to take action against the conservative Sussex County Caucus that Censured him on November 8th.
Someone will always leak this kind of information and Tom Ross must have known that this kind of maneuvering could not be kept secret. The big problem that he will have is that he can’t simply fire these people, they are elected and theirs terms are not due for reelection until March of 2013.
As much as he doesn’t like it, he will have to deal with his failure as the State Chairman and should resign and let the party move on.
New leaks quickly when you are in the wrong Tom!!!!

  • Donald Ayotte

The party is splintering as we speak in Delaware and different factions are speaking insanity instead of party unity. Many people have some great Ideas but are being shouted down by the vitriol and hatred of a few. Check out.
