Forbes on Federalism

This is an excellent post on federalism by a leading financial magazine. Federalism, it seems, is finally getting the attention it deserves as a solution to our national challenges.

Centralizing authority in a federal Leviathan which is no longer in any sense limited, has caused elections to grow more corrupt and increasingly contentious. Federalism lights the path to domestic tranquility.

The article makes the case for federalism, but stops short of explaining how this can happen . The Federal government collects so much money, which it then would do nothing with for anyone? The problem isn’t only that there is too much spending, but that Congress has powers of taxation that should never have been allowed by the states. He who holds the purse strings calls the tune. Until the 16th amendment is repealed (as we did with the 18th) American can not experience the benefits of a federalist country and any talk about separation of powers is a lie.

Income taxation is the only truely fair way to fund a government.

And the Federal side still needs ALOT of money, even if we return most domestic things to the states…

The key to federalisim is not tax-suicide…

It’s convincing people that they are better off with their states doing everything…

The PR case can be made – with things like ‘Why do your taxes pay for a bridge in another state?’

It also allows balancing the budget by offloading EVERYTHING to the state level that ‘only happens in that state’…

Doesn’t cross state lines or national borders? Not federal.

People WILL vote for it, if it’s explained….

The states should collect the income tax ,and the federal should petition the states for it’s funds to finance anything but defense .
