It’s Official: Maryland is the Most Democrat State

Gallup just released their latest polling data on party strength in each of the fifty states.  They polled the respondents based on their party identification, not political ideology.  As it turns out, the most Democrat state (excluding DC, of course) is not Vermont, New York, or Massachusetts.  It is… Maryland!  That’s right.  Maryland is the state with the largest Democrat party advantage, at 22% over the GOP.  Here is a list of the top ten Democrat and GOP states:

Most Dem States
1. D.C.
2. Maryland
3. Massachusetts
4. Vermont
5. Hawaii
6. Rhode Island
7. New York
8. Delaware
9. Connecticut
10. California

Most Republican States

1. Wyoming
2. Utah
3. Idaho
4. Alaska
5. Kansas
6. Montana
7. Nebraska
8. South Dakota
9. New Hampshire
10. Alabama

Here is Gallup’s contextual perspective of those at the top of the list:

Apart from the District of Columbia, Rhode Island ranked as the most Democratic state in 2008 and 2009, but is tied for sixth this year after showing one of the steepest declines in Democratic affiliation. Maryland has been in the top 10 each year but has moved steadily up the list, from eighth in 2008 to fourth in 2009 to second in 2010.

There is no question that there is a direct correlation between the growth in the public sector and the augmentation of Democrat party ID in Maryland.  Most federal workers live in southern or central Maryland, most prominently in Montgomery and PG Counties.

On a national level, this report forebodes goods news for conservatives.  All of the 50 states lost at least a small percentage of Democrat voters, with New Hampshire and Rhode Island leading the pack, with a 12% decline in membership.  Keep in mind that the Democrats have a much stronger representation in party affiliation and identification than in allegiance to their ideology.  For example, many southern states like Kentucky and Louisiana still have more registered Democrats, even though they are conservative states.  This study shows that the realignment is expanding to party affiliation as well as ideological identification.

As for Maryland……. I need to move soon.

according to the poll, VA is now considered competitive, where it was previously leaning Democrat. It wasn’t leaning Democrat when I moved here more than 10 years ago, it was solid red. Hopefully with redistricting it will go back to solid red.

T he selfish behavior shown in Wisconsin cries out for the thoughts of our Founding Fathers creating the District of Columbia without Congressional representation.

We need to extend the borders of the District of Columbia into Maryland and Virginia and remove those districts from Congressional representation.

Take a look at Mike Van Hollen, MD 8th district. His district abuts DC and what do the DEMS do? Put him as Ranking Member of the House Budget Committee. Yeah right he will act and vote in the best interests of the Republic as a whole.

Or as I proposed to Grover Norquist back in 2004, start taking Federal agencies and their workers and relocating them away from DC.

Don’t forget about their Whip, Steny Hoyer, who borders the east side of DC.

Just last year the nitwits at the New Hampshire Democrat Party (NHDP) had the words “majority party” on their website. Now NH is the ninth most Republican State according to Gallup. This just shows how much of a worthless paper tiger the NHDP is when they can’t bus their Massachusetts Democrat activists up here to run their GOTV.

At some point Maryland is going to face a day of reckoning. Those that can stand an hour-plus commute, shelter their families in PA, WV, DE and VA.

I’m guessing sometime after 2012 and 2014, when President Obama then Gov. O’Malley go home.

Thanks for giving me another reason to avoid moving back to the state of my birth.

thugs were out in Annapolis today as part of the nationwide astroturfing. They practically own the state.

Virginia should not call in vain!”

Or something. Hate going up there to the land of “Impeach Cheney” lawn signs.

They deserve O’Malley, who has done wonders for business in the great Commonwealth of Virginia.

nailed it. In Maryland they literally chase businesses out of the state. They just forced a pepsi plant to close because of their beverage tax in Baltimore City. It was one of the few plants in the downtown area. PA and VA benefit greatly from O’Malley.
